During Stalin’s rule, he has been the sole responsibility for killing many of the USSR citizens trying to reach his expectations on his view of the country. The horrible tragedies that have occurred during Stalin’s rule was to create a totalitarian government, that would create an unjust view on society, and make the people of the USSR not be seen as the most important aspect of the country. The people had to face the Famine and be at risk of getting killed if they opposed the rule of Stalin, which resulted in the Great Purge. Stalin would gain profit from collective farms and was seen as a betrayal to the people. The methods taken by Stalin resulted in people of the USSR to be uneasy and lose the trust of the citizens.

Creator of the most vast and inhumane prison system in world history, Stalin was a one-time invaluable ally to democracy in World War II. Money was required for Russia to build their own industrial base to support themselves. To build this infrastructure they had to borrow money from other countries. The workers building and working in these industries were unpaid laborers and prisoners (New World Encyclopedia contributors, 2014). Because there was about ~7 million - 15 million prisoners in labor camps and they were working in industries, those camps were now necessary for the prosperity of Russia’s economy (The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica, n.d.). (Bloom, 257). This account is a key factor in comparing Stalin with the Republic, as Stalin’s ambitions were similar with Plato’s descriptions. Using other descriptions from Plato’s Republic, it clear that Joseph Stalin fits Plato’s account of a tyrant. The Soviet regime under Joseph Stalin suffered greatly and the tyrant rule of Stalin was oppressive, restrictive, and produced great amounts of casualties. We are comparing how Plato’s account for a tyrant is accurate of the results of Joseph Stalin; that a city will experience freedom with kingship, as well as darkness and scrutiny under a tyranny.

Soon after, he was granted dictatorship of the Soviet Union after Vladimir Lenin had died (historyplace.com). Many people did not like the way that Stalin was ruling. People wanted their own independence from Stalin and he did not take that very well. In 1929, Stalin had believed that many Ukrainian scholars, scientists, religious leaders, etc. were planning a riot against him. Without even being listened to during a trial, they were killed or deported immediately to prison camps (blogspot.com).

The popular belief is that Adolf Hitler began WWII, and that the USSR was a victim of the Nazi’s aggression. Hitler invaded the USSR, he also violated the treaty of Versailles. It is accepted that Hitler was the reason for these events. However, I believe that Joseph Stalin was the chief culprit in instigating the Second World War. He began aiding the Nazi’s soon after their political party gained power. Stalin dismantled his defenses, and replaced them with offensive weapons. He prepared for an invasion of Europe. This forced Germany to invade Russia. Consequently, giving Russia a reason to enter the War. Thereupon a reason to conquer Europe as well as spreading communism. He should have been tried at Nuremberg, as he was the main cause of WWII and committed war crimes, as well as crimes against humanity.

Joseph Stalin was the most controversial person in Russia who has come into power.
