War between britain and the american colonies couldn't have been avoided if the colonists had representation in parliament. We start with the French and Indian war, an inevitable war between French and British colonists. The war was inevitable because when a country colonizes a free open world ( except for the Native Americans ) there will be nations ready to colonize as well, this leads to land grabs and fighting. Ending in 1763 after a seven year contention, the British colonists end up losing the land they fought for, the appalachian mountains due to the "Treaty of Paris" which gave the natives their land back. The colonists were furious, what made things worse is when Great Britain raised taxes on the colonizes because the French and Indian
1) Could King George III have done anything differently in 1776 to avoid war, or was it inevitable at that point?
Even if the British accepted some ideas of the colonies and were a little more opened minded to the colonists, the war couldn’t have been avoided because the colonies wanted to become independent. They wanted to break away from the king. By this time, their patience was growing thin and the power that the king had was being abused.
According to the Declaration Of Independence, abuse of the representative powers and their natural rights gave the people the right to eliminate their current government and create a new one. Thomas Jefferson outlines the mistakes of the British government, and asserts that citizens were restricted of natural rights. In such case, during the American Revolution, colonies had the right to get rid of their government because the king was not rightly protecting the citizens rights. Not only that, but direct taxes were enforced upon the citizens leading to acts being passed in opposition to the rebellion. All things considered, I would say that the American Revolution was justified under the Declaration of Independence.
The Revolutionary War was not inevitable because America could have gained its independence in a more diplomatic way. Australia, Canada and Jamaica gained their independence from Britain without going to war. The colonists would have gotten their independence but it would have taken longer; and they would have had to deal with the taxing and restrictions on trade for a little longer. The colonists needed Great Britain less and less as the population grew, so it would have been difficult to keep absolute control like they wanted to. The revolutionary war was not inevitable because America would have been independent eventually.
Imagine a country where the government could do anything they wanted because it was simply their “right.” The revolution was caused by a series of events which were started by the king passing taxes on the colonists and enforcing laws which were violating the civilians natural rights. There has been an argument since the war started about whether the colonists were justified in declaring independence and breaking away from their home country. The American colonists were justified in waging war for independence against Britain because the british government ignored countless formal petitions sent, the government didn’t have the right to impose taxes on the settlers, and Britain waged war against the colonists.
Even with both the English and the Americans willing to compromise and make deals, it would have been very hard to prevent the War for independence. The American enlightenment, however, could have been stopped. A large majority of Americans wanted independence from England mainly because of the way they were being ruled. Of the Americans that wanted to break away were from many backgrounds, they came from all over the social ladder and from all over the world. If they didn’t all come together to be equal around each other then the War for Independence still would have happened, but the success and growth during and after the war would have never happened. It was never a sure thing whether or not the people would come together to move the
The Revolutionary War started in April of 1775, with the battles at Lexington and Concord. This war would mark the beginnings of the United States as a nation, fighting against the most powerful fighting force at the time, the British Army and Navy. This conflict would go on for a brutal 6 years until the final British surrender at Yorktown on October 17, 1781. In the end, both sides have lost tens of thousands of men, but how did it all start? The Conflict has its star with the rising tensions between the colonists and the British crown in the aftermath of the French-Indian War in 1763. The financing of the war had caused Britain to be in heavy debt after mobilizing troops to defend colonies. To offset this debt Britain began taxing its colonies, introducing the Townshend and Stamp acts. This act of taxation would anger the 13 American colonies as this was seen as an attack against their rights and to protest this, colonist boycotted and protested, but were met with the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770. Tensions would rise, and the Boston Tea Party would begin on December 16, 1773. This would lead to the deployment of British troops in Boston and the eventual start of the war. But after all, it may not justified. The Revolutionary war cannot be justified only by a resentment of taxes on imports and a distrust of an Empire that had only finished fighting a war to defend its colony.
The narrative suggests that the war for American independence was not inevitable, that the British Empire could have been saved. Do you agree? At what point during the imperial crisis was peaceful compromise possible?
Thesis: I believe the American Revolution was actually revolutionary. The Revolutionary War did not cause an immediate change in America, but led to a long chain of actions, leading to America’s modern freedom.
The revolutionary war was a war fought for freedom. Many events led up to the war. The Lexington and Concord was the tipping point of the war, and if maybe this event didn’t happen, maybe the Revolutionary War would’ve happened later or had gone differently (Lexington).
When you research about weather or not the American Revolution was inevitable it seems there is many different answers and opinions. The most common opinion is that yes the American Revolution was in fact inevitable. With the distance between the British and the colonies it was hard for the British to keep a close eye on the colonies. One of the main reasons the British was not needed any more by the colonies was because there was no other military power on the continent of North America so there was not a possible threat that the colonies would be over taken. If the British government would have been willing to cut some sort of a deal or lessen the taxes most americans would have most likely been accepting to this rather than go through the trouble of a war. The war was not completely what the American people wanted but it was in some ways what they where forced to do because the taxes and rules had gotten so strict.
The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were a period of constant war within North America. From the Seven Years War of 1754 to American Revolution of 1775 and the war of 1812, just to name a few. The War of 1812 is, however, the most peculiar of them all. It was imposed by Madison upon a nation that was unenthusiastic and hesitant to fight. The main reasons that led to the declaration of the war were led by a motivation to preserve and maintain national honour in face of what Americans considered British insults. The British wanted to restrict the American trade with Napoleonic France, which was of highly profit, that America won in a long conflict against them. The British Navy seized American ships and American sailors
The outcomes of the Revolutionary war paved the way towards an expansion of territory sought out to respect civil liberties by outlawing slavery , reforming the education platform and is considered one of the most important legislative acts of the confederation congress. Thomas Jefferson was a key player as he created a vision with an empire based on principles novel at the time. On July 13, 1787 the Northwest Ordinance came into place, a new legislation which expanded the original 13 states westward not only acquiring land, but provided a framework for educational organization and political incorporation in the new territories.
There were many events that took place in the 1760’s and 1770’s that led to the Revolutionary war. During these years the British did many things that upset the colonists. These upset colonists would eventually get sick of all the British ways and fight for their freedom.
