Washington County’s health status is in good shape, but has room to improve. It has many strengths and weaknesses. When looking at the length of life comparisons Washington county ranked 63 out of 243. Overall our health outcomes are ranked at 53. When looking at the percentages compared to Texas and the United States, Washington County is high in some health problems and equal in other areas. Some health problems Washington County has includes adult obesity, lack of physical activity, alcohol impaired driving deaths, teen births, excessive drinking, and a very high rate of sexually transmitted diseases. The majority population of Washington County is around the age of 40. This is considered
Appendix 1 compares the concerned district with England in multiple areas of health issues. According to these statistics the locality, on average, in most health areas, is a healthier population than the rest of the country. Health concerns that are, on average a larger concern than the nation have been underlined and are, for example, a higher number of road injuries and deaths, a higher number of hip fractures in ages 65 and over and higher numbers of increasing and higher risk drinking. These may be explained by such that the life expectancy in both male and
Our health is the most important in our life. It is what keeps us living and striving for success. However, in Texas it is seen as the contrary. The issue with Texas in the Health area is the success of preventative care measures and cost of care for patients with chronic or terminal conditions such as diabetes and cancer.
Another strategy would involve utilizing data from existing public sources to assess the health and safety needs of the people of Utah County. The main elements of the collected data would involve the identification of the key health indicators and the corresponding risk factors. I would also collect information related to the impact of the social, economic and the environment on the health status of Utah inhabitants. The key sources of data for the assessment of needs of Utah populations would include US census bureau, healthy people 2020, environment public health tracking program, department of mental health and substance abuse and Utah hospital discharge database. Other sources of information for the need assessment would include the indicator based information system indicator for the public health department and Utah’s healthcare access survey (Niederdeppe, Bu, Borah, Kindig & Robert, 2008). I
During the evaluation of the objectives in the (LHI) and the analysis of the perceived health of the community, three key factors were identified as potential health problems including children exposure to a second hand smoke, obesity among adults, and limited access to dental care. The identification of the LHI perceived as problems was based on personal observation and perception from community members.
Poverty level for Weber County 12.5% (Weber County, Utah, 2015) with Ogden City at 23.4% (Ogden City, Utah, 2015). According to the Weber-Morgan Health Department the top five causes of Mortality in this county are heart disease, cancer, stroke, accidents and chronic respiratory disease. Due to Weber counties documented higher than Utah states rates of obesity, drinking and smoking, which are leading contributors of heart disease, cancer and stroke deaths, Weber County’s life expectancy reflects the national average versus Utah’s rate (Weber-Morgan Health Annual report, 2010). The Weber-Morgan Health Department annotates that suicide is the leading cause of preventable diseases in Utah and Weber County with 180.7 per 1,000,000 which is higher than even the state average (Weber County, Utah, 2015). There are many concerns in Weber County, but the health concerns which are unfavorably affecting the quality of life in Weber County are obesity, adolescent pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and air quality. In 2009, 64.65% of adults in Weber and Morgan counties were considered overweight or obese (Weber-Morgan Health Department, 2014). The teen pregnancy rate in downtown Ogden has consistently ranked among the highest in the nation which brings Weber County’s rates up far above Utah’s average (Weber-Morgan
A community’s health can be established through a myriad of differing factors. Three specific factors that will help to determine the health of the county in which I live are community safety, disaster preparedness, as well as an analysis of the population. The community under review, Merced, is located in central California and made up of seventeen cities and communities whose individual populations do not exceed more than 75,000 and covers an area of approximately 1,972 square miles (United States Census Bureau, 2010) with a total population of approximately 255,793 people in 2010 (Merced County California, 2012).
The total population of my district is considered to be about 835, 503. Out of this population 767, 694 are of age 5 years old and above. In the district, the number of the household is considered to be 279, 810 with the number of families being 181,559. In terms of the characteristics of education about 231,784 people aged 3 years are considered to have enrolled in school. Furthermore, in the district 355,862 citizens of age 16 years old and above are considered to have been employed. Concerning the last general election, the total voter registration was 444,668. The total
Epidemiologically speaking, the incidence of diabetes has had a 40% in Kootenai County in the last 5 years (“Kootenai County Indicators”). The mentioned statistics show evidence for the applicable nursing diagnosis of ineffective health maintenance as evidenced by the negative health disparities listed. There are 335 registered sex offenders currently residing in Kootenai County and statistics suggest that crime rates are on the rise with a reported 11.3% increase (“Kootenai CSO,” 2011). Drunken driving arrests have increased by 20 in the last year, drug and narcotic arrests have increased by 29 arrests in the last year and there have been 14 arrests for assault in the last year (“Kootenai CSO,” 2011). The above can lead one to believe that stressors in this community are abundant and that its inhabitants are seeking relief with drugs and alcohol and other illegal and destructive behaviors, which leads to a nursing diagnosis of ineffective community coping as evidenced by self medicating and violent behaviors. On a brighter note, with the abundance of pristine lakes, numerous camp grounds, mountains for skiing and snowshoeing, hiking trails and National forest land, there is an abundance of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed year round.
In the 1700’s, America gained its independence after the Revolutionary War. While independence seemed like a blessing, it left America with a lot of problems. They created a new government under the Articles of Confederation, but they created a very weak central government. It couldn’t create an army to defend itself, pay the debt to foreign countries, and this would lead to foreign countries losing their respect for the new nation. All these problems lead the people to get rid of their government and create a new one that was more successful. This new Constitution was an outline for the government to follow. One task was to elect a president to lead them. Washington was elected for the job, but was put in a situation where there was a lot of
The area is pretty rural and many of the housing structures appear to be modular or mobile homes. Several of the “stick-built” structures are in varied levels of disrepair. There is a lot of open space and land used for agriculture. The roads are mostly paved, but narrow and winding; especially in the northern part of the county. There are occasionally homes with evidence of solar panels and/or windmills, but they are not often seen. There are many churches of different denominations, but mostly Christian, seen all over the county. There are very few examples of public transportation in Stokes County. There are parks available in the town centers, but they are small. There is Hanging Rock State Park offering hiking trails and camping with plenty of streams and ponds for fishing and outdoor activities. The following were issues that I found based on concepts of epidemiology. 1) The county is medically underserved as it is a more rural area with hard to access areas. 2) Dentists are not staying in the area and we have fewer dentists than the NC state average per 10,000 people. 3) There is a lack of public transportation and 4) there is a lack of mental health care services.
Washington's indubitable virtue, wise judgment, and superlative record of service can easily be seen to have united a disparate country, lending legitimacy to the government.
The purpose of this paper is to assess the town of Lusby, Maryland to determine any environmental concerns that could be a potential or real health risk to the community. A windshield survey was conducted by driving around the town to assess the environment, including air, water, and land. The location and surroundings, including manmade and natural, were identified and taken into consideration during the driving tour. Also assessed where the people themselves by observing community vitality and general appearance, social and economic conditions, health resources, social functioning, and attitudes toward health. Insufficiencies will be identified and diagnosed to help the community thrive to maintain or improve health.
In his commentary, What’s Wrong with Washington? Tribalism.,” Norman Ornstein states that he authored a segment about the 112th Congress entitled, “Worst. Congress. Ever.” His title and thesis statement endured a significant amount of criticism. Ornstein suggests that there have been numerous periods of political disarray in The United States. Everything in The United States governing body plays a significant role. If one part of the body fails to follow through, dysfunction will result. For that reason, Ornstein claims that he would adjust the title to make it apply to the 113th Congress. He claims that we are in the most dysfunctional period in history. Ornstein claims that our dysfunction is primarily caused by tribalism. Tribalism is
Geography has influenced the political trend of Washington state in many ways One way is in Washington we have smaller businesses and the owners don't want to be told what to do. So they vote one way so they can be in charge of their own businesses. That way they can do what is best for their businesses. Another way is, since we have smaller businesses in Washington owners know their employees so they vote for what is best for their employees. Unlike in other parts of the U.S. where they have bigger businesses so they don't care as much about their employees.
