Unit title: Water in different forms Focus Area & Strand: Earth Science- Water /chemistry- solid, liquid and gas- understand constancy and change Rationale: All living things need water to survive. In the early childhood year, the properties of water is one of the main focus topic for Earth Science, because it is importance for children to understand the functions and the use of water, since water is one of the life-sustaining substance that children will experience in their everyday life at very young age (Harlan & Rivkin, 2014; MacDonald & Rafferty, 2015). The purpose of the experiences are to help children to understand the concept that the form of water can be constancy or transform into different forms (solid, liquid and gas) reversibly depends on the temperature (Harlan & Rivkin, 2014; MacDonald & Rafferty, 2015). Those sequential activities are also aimed to allows the children to experience the process of freezing, melting and evaporation, which support children’s understand of those term (Harlan & Rivkin, 2014) EYLF Outcomes and Content Indicators: OUTCOME 4: CHILDREN ARE CONFIDENT AND INVOLVED LEARNERS • Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity. Evidence of learning: The experiences trigger children’s curiosity, and motivate them to discover the process of water transform that changes to one form to different form. The range of equipment and the flexible of the play-base experiences support child’s interesting in the activity, which encourage the children to participant and to explore property of water. • Children develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, enquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.
