The water quality of the U-high creek was recorded as excellent. However, that is not that is not the case for every body of water. Some lakes, rivers, or streams are polluted. One way humans pollute the water is chemical runoff from industrial processes. (Lenntech,2016). Some chemicals like sulfuric acid get released into the air and come back down as acid rain. If enough acid rain gets into the river it can start to kill organisms in it. Pesticides from crops is another way that humans can contaminate the water. (Lenntech,2016). When it rains the excess chemicals get washed into the river. The chemical formaldehyde is used in pesticides and is highly toxic to aquatic life. So, if it gets into the river then anything exposed to it will die.
Our class has concluded that the conodoguinet creek is not polluted. If we test the Conodoguinet Creek for signs of pollution, then the creek will be polluted. That was my hypothesis for the creek, but it was wrong. There are many creatures that are pollution sensitive, which means they can’t survive in pollution. We found many of these creatures in the stream. Also, we have tested the creek for pollutants and other chemicals. Lastly, acid rain is a problem, so we tested the rocks for neutralizing acid. Here are some reasons why we think the creek is not polluted.
Through our research we aimed to determine if there were any differences in water quality of both the north and south forks of Strawberry Creek. As time progresses and the environment changes it is important to keep track of how certain species are being impacted by these features, and how they cope with change. We hypothesized that due to the lack of pollution, the south fork will promote a greater diversity of macroinvertebrates. This was due to the fact that there was less runoff and trash that could be introduced to the water in the south fork, than there was in the north fork. We gathered data by analyzing the different organisms living in both forks. We collected a total of fifty vials composed of five organisms from each fork, and inspected them under microscopic view. After gathering data and identifying the different kinds of organisms living in the different forks we assessed whether the organisms from the samples could live in high or low resolution water. We also took a t-test to assess the probability of these differences being due to relevant factors or by chance. Our major findings suggest that organisms in the south fork showed a higher demand to living in cleaner water indicating that our hypothesis was correct.
Not only is pollution the cause of the death of many organisms essential to ecological balance, but human drinking water has also been affected.
Please briefly describe the different types of water pollution mentioned throughout the "Poisoned Waters" video. Fertilizers, Nitrogen and Phosphorous caused algae which poisoned the waters. It caused a dead zone. The farmers who own chickens was allowing the manure to pollute the water. The humans race is all responsible as we pollute our water by throwing garbage into it. Soap, household cleaning agents, toothpaste, and other plastic, lubricant and fuels are all poisoning our water.

It has came to mind that the Big Sioux River located in the Eastern Part of South Dakota is a very polluted river. It is so polluted that its the 13th highest polluted water source in the United States. Therefore the people around this river, this is a very important to the people around because this is there main water source. People may ask why is this river so polluted and its because of the toxic waste from us humans. Every time you go to the bathroom all this waste ends up going into the river and even when you take a shower all the chemicals that go in your hair or for your body from the soap end up going into the river.
Firstly, in Bloomington Illinois, there are plenty of farms which means plenty of farmers using fertilizer. If it were to rain after a farmer used a heavy amount of fertilizer then it could run off into the creek which would cause eutrophication which could potentially kill off many of the organisms living in the creek (as this would cause a large boom in algae population). Lastly a way humans can affect the creek (or rather has been affecting the creek already) is through littering in general, when observations were being made on the creek numerous pieces of trash were discovered, plastic bags, beer cans, and a twelve pack of a beer box. Littering will pollute the creek which can kill organisms and damage the surrounding ecosystem. Animals or small organisms that use the creek as a water source no longer will be able to as it is now polluted. Spring Lake Creek is located off of County road E in Sawyer County. The Spring Lake creek has a culvert that goes under County road E to Spring Lake. The culvert has the water flowing from Spring Lake into Spring Lake creek. With the road right by Spring Lake creek, one would think how much of the runoff from the road affect the water quality and invertebrate life. That is exactly the hypothesis a group from the Fresh Water Ecology class had come up with and wanted to experiment by testing two pools and two riffles. One set closest to the bridge and another away from the bridge. Historic events might have played a role in the conclusion of the experiment.
Often, toxic substances are being drained into the air, waterways, and undergrounds wells. According to the report by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over 60 million pounds of deadly chemicals are produced by industries in Florida. Notably, Florida’s water has been suffering mercury contamination until the state’s department of migration issues a circular regularly for regulations of eating freshwater fish in the region (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). In fact, such metals emanate from coal combustion’s emissions which run into water bodies. According to Lewis Regenstein author of "America the Poisoned" two thirds of the nation's lakes have serious pollution problems. 80% of 3,700 urban lakes in the United States are destroyed. More than 94 million residents could use these lakes for recreational use or for a source of water (169). Cincinnati's drinking water contains about 700 chemicals. 90% of them did not exist 20 years ago. The main sources of most of these chemical pollutants are municipal sewage, industrial discharges, and runoffs from farming areas. There are also several other chemicals in America's drinking water. Although hazardous, there are approximately 60 chemicals that are mixed into water in the process of treating it. Unlike rivers or lakes, underground supplies are not processed at treatment plants before being used by humans. "More than one hundred million of our citizens depend in a whole or in part on underground as sources of drinking water (Beck qtd. in Regenstein 172). Once groundwater becomes contaminated, there is usually no way to clean it.

Turbidity refers to how clear water is. Turbidity determines how far light can penetrate into water. Excess soil erosion, dissolved solids or excess growth of microorganisms are most commonly the causes of high turbidity. Because water with a high turbidity can impede light, plants under the water may die as a result. Dead plants will not only result in less oxygen but the organic matter will only contribute to the microorganisms thus diminishing the oxygen even further. No dissolved oxygen means that other aquatic life forms will not be able to live in the water (National Library of Medicine, n.d.).
