The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley and is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and uneasy as the land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being part of Wisconsin territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while, lumbering interests drew many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater. One former soldier, Indian trader, Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown had been in the area since 1820. He had set up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply upriver fur trading operations. This warehouse, which was located where North Stillwater stands today, grew into a small village that he called “Dacotah”. In 1840 the first ferry was licensed to operate across the St. Croix.
The decision to buy a home is a very big and important step and should be entered into very carefully. Home buying is the most important decision that a couple or person will ever make in their lives. With a new baby coming, the studio apartment is going to be too small for a family of 3 to live in and also the apartment being too far from local services and schools, all of these factors that have come into play have played an important part for the decision in buying a home. With the bad situation of the housing market, at this time will also play an important role in deciding to buy a house. Many people will decide on looking to

Angela recently moved to Colorado to relocate for your job working at a local health insurance group, which would also benefit her son’s father to be closer to her son. In just a matter of a two-week span, Angela was making offers on five homes that really brought a lot of interest to her which matched her criteria of what she was looking for in a home. Unfortunately, not even one bid out of those five houses fell through for her. Due to this incident, the housing market in Denver, Colorado has transformed into a form of “The Hunger Games,” with the home buyers gathering any weapons that they can bargain to stay the last bidder standing (Svaldi). Engle stated, “I was like, ‘How the heck is this going to work?’ What kind of potential could I have as a buy in this market? (Rusch)” After searching, Angela finally bought a two-bedroom, one-bath townhouse in Aurora for her and her son to end the stressful, month-long house hunting. This article can be helpful for soon-to-be homeowners that will go through similar feelings of panic and frustration while going through the process of the bidding
The mortgage crisis we are experiencing in the United States today is already ranking as among the most serious economic events since the Great Depression of the 1930’s. Hardly a day goes by without a story in the newspaper or on the cable news stations reporting about the increase in the number of foreclosures across the United States. The effects of this crisis have spread across all financial markets, where in the end all of us are paying a price for this home mortgage crisis. When the housing market collapsed, so did the availability of credit which our economy depends upon. The home mortgage crisis, the financial crisis and overall economic crisis all need to address by the
The comparison and contrast of John Keats’ Bright Star and Robert Frost’s Choose Something Like a Star quickly reveal the extremely different tones on the world and environment around them. Each poem’s speaker’s diction and tone showcase a distinct approach to stars and a distinct philosophical approach to the world as a whole. Bright Star employs a romantic tone towards the stars, while Choose Something Like a Star’s tone reflects an inquisitive and scientific mind. In both poems, the stars represent a god-like figure and the speaker’s reaction to said higher being; however, the two poems conclude in two distinct reactions to these higher beings. Both poems, while literally focused on stars, metaphorically showcase humanity’s relationship, whether devoted or questioning, with God.
In this paper, I will discuss about a project that many people are familiar to: buying a new house.
Discrimination is the separation of society; it has always been apart of history, especially in the United States and is still going on now. History has shown that white men has always been the superior race in the past and has had more privileges compared to other ethnic groups. In the mid 1900s white Americans were the superior race and black Americans were treated brutally and didn’t have the same rights. Even today, white Americans are known to have high social status compared to other races. There has always been social inequality and white Americans has always had the upper hand. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee it demonstrates how skin color affected the way people were judged and what rights they had. It shows the inequality
The economic decline has possible home buyers, especially first time home buyers, scared to invest anything into the housing market. With the fear of another depression in the back of everyone's minds, some businesses are attempting to clarify the pros of home ownership.
The benefits of Genetic Tests, that can offer a probabilistic answer confirming whether you are at risk of contracting Alzheimer's disease, are miniscule. However, in the view of research and prevention, genetics hold data that may be paramount to finding a cure. When placed into the shoes of someone with genealogy of Alzheimer's, I find “It’s better to look and fail, than to have not looked and missed an opportunity.” (Collins, 2014). To me, the scariest thing, is being faced with the unknown. With the ability, through genetic testing, to get a glimpse of what my “unforeseeable” future may hold, makes the unknown bearable.
You’re probably wondering who’s writing to you. Well, this is you: Abby (NOT Abigail) Wieland. I’m writing this when there are 3½ days left in sixth grade. I know that you are in your room, packing and repacking your school supplies. You’re also terrified for your first year of middle school. It’s not as bad as you think. Nothing really changes, except there’s different teachers for every class. Most of the time, you’ll love middle school. Just like every year, though, there will be times when you hate it. Just warning you.
