As of August 2015, there are 21,995,000 government employees in the United States (Jeffrey). About 3,000,000 of the 21,995,000 of government employees work for the Department of Defense, also known as the DoD (U.S. Department of Defense). Of the 3,000,000 Department of Defense workers, 750,000 of them are civilian personnel (United States Government). The Department of Defense is the biggest and oldest government agency (U.S. Department of Defense). Among many of the places that employ Department of Defense workers, the Watervliet Arsenal is quite unique. The Watervliet Arsenal is America’s sole manufacturing source for large caliber cannons in production volume (United States Government). A few years ago, many workers were put on furlough, which is a temporary layoff. Erik Goodell said that he was put on furlough about 1 ½ years ago during the summer. The two-year agreement helped to solve the furlough problem. When it was finalized, the two-year agreement kept away the looming the threat of a government shutdown, which would last for the rest of President Obama's term and raise the national debt ceiling until spring 2017, and it was the second partial fix to the mandatory federal budget caps that were passed by Congress in 2011 (Shane). Workers on furlough would be brought back into the workplace. When the deal was being purposed, Senator John McCain said, "I think it's the best deal we can probably get," he said. "It's bipartisan, and it prevents a government shutdown." Well over 90 percent of the Defense Department’s 750,000 U.S. civilian employees affected by furlough (Carroll). Employees from every service and agency in the department were furloughed for up to 11 days, losing up to 2 days of pay in each two-week pay period through the end of the fiscal year …show more content…
Not just their safety is at risk, but also their families’. Many government workers are or have been targeted by terrorists. Terrorist attacks on domestic military facilities have grown in recent years due to the war on terrorism (Bewley). Workers are now the "targets of choice" for violent extremists in the U.S. (Bewley). One soldier — Pvt. William Andrew "Andy" Long — was killed at a recruiting station in Little Rock, Ark., on June 2009 (Bewley). At Fort Hood, Texas, on November 2009, 13 more were killed during a shooting due to a terrorist attack (Bewley). It has been rumored that government workers have been targeted through phone calls. From retirement scams to death threats, Terrorists have attempted to take government employees’ money and lives (source is
Before the Holidays, lawmakers passed a trillion-dollar bill which will keep the government open until the end of next September. This bill funded cyber security and renewed a health care program for September 11 first responders, and it also changed the visa waiver program which brought great discrimination
The Central Valley Project (CVP) is a Federal water project set up and run by the US Bureau of Reclamation to provide water for the Central Valley in California. Through twenty dams and reservoirs the CVP facilitates the collection and delivery of water for irrigation, municipal, and industrial use, as well as producing hydropower, providing flood control and recreational facilities on their reservoirs. The CVP provide a good example of how cost allocation works within a vast organization. I will use this organization to describe the method used by the CVP to allocate cost and whether I agree or disagree with their methods. I will also be identifying situations where common costs are allocated. I will explain the impact of allocating
Hood was swift. After receiving an alert that there was an active shooter threat on the installation the base was shut down and base security was dispatched to the Soldier Readiness Processing Center (Pariante, 2009). The pair that finally brought this ordeal to an end was Sgt. Kimberly Munley and Senior Sgt. Mark Todd, of the K-9 division. Major Hasan wounded Sgt. Munley with two shots, one to the thigh and the other directly into her femur. She also received shrapnel wounds to her hand from nearby ricocheting bullets. She lay on the ground when Senior Sgt. Todd rounded the corner and put Major Hasan in his sights. He demanded that Hasan turn himself in but Hasan’s only response was gunfire. Todd returned fire and after five well-aimed shots Major Hasan was on the ground. Todd then approached, disarmed the terrorist, and then put him in flex cuffs. The incident lasted approximately ten minutes but would forever traumatize or snuff out the light of many of his supposed brothers and
Nov. 5, 2009 in Ft. Hood, Texas, Major Nidal M. Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and injured 32 others at his base.
Some people claimed that they have more energy boost, some for gout relief, some find the ULTIMATE more refreshing, and some even think about and crave for the ULTIMATE.
It is difficult to categorize the Department of Veterans Affairs into one specific industry, as they provide veterans numerous services that include healthcare, compensation, home loans, survivor benefits, and burial benefits. However, when people consider the VA they oftentimes relate it specifically to the healthcare industry. Whereas, the VA can also be categorized as a government agency, because it is within the Cabinet department of the United States government. Though much like every other organization in the world they have their share of issues to overcome, including environmental factors and program funding.
Highland Spring is the UK's largest producer of bottled water. On its website, Highland Spring advertises: "We've been drawing our natural spring water from the same protected land in the Ochil Hills, Perthshire, Scotland since 1979. But the special rock formations below, which make Highland Spring as pure as can be, are the same today as they were 400 million years ago" (About us, 2012, Highland Spring). The company stresses both the 'oldness' of its brand and also its Britishness, given the connection it has to Scotland, the British Isles in general, and rock formations that have existed for millions of years. "In 1503, King James IV of Scotland announced that the local beer, made with water drawn from the same land as Highland Spring, was to be his Coronation Ale" (About us, 2012, Highland Spring). Highland Spring also capitalizes upon organic trends in its marketing, stressing that all of its water is certified organic and that the company is careful to preserve the environment in the way in obtains its water. "An extraordinary 15 years trickling its way through the basalt" is required to make the perfect water (About us, 2012, Highland Spring). This paper will use two common marketing rubrics SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) and PESTLE (political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental positioning) to analyze the
The tragedy in Chattanooga left "… officials deeply concerned that the military [appeared] to be a target. Again, an act of terrorism…,” (Pierre Thomas). On July 16, 2015, Mohammed Abdulazeez opened fire at two military facilities; investigators searched for a motive that could have driven the twenty four year old to take five lives (Truesdell 48).
Water rights is a very interesting topic that may have no right answer, but Texas has tried to answer as many questions as possible about who owns what water. In the case of groundwater, Texas has historically given the right to pump the groundwater to the individual person that owns the land, however, this person does not own the groundwater. The landowner may pump as much water as they want even if it completely drains neighboring peoples water sources, the water can also be sold to other entities. All major surface water is claimed by the Texas government, with an exemption for domestic use and livestock. Ownership of water in rivers and streams are given to the landowner if the waterbed cannot be navigated,
Essay on Why I Live at the P.O. Commonly, people think that their love ones are not for them and nobody seems to care. We frequently feel there is favoritism in our household, especially among various kinfolk. More often than not it is our adolescence or desirously inside ourselves that leads us to these conclusions. Besides, in the event that we disregard others for our own narrow minded reasons, or on the off chance that we see things just from our perspective, we for the most part wind up without anyone else's input, making her an unreliable narrator. In Eudora Welty’s
Domestic terrorism is a real threat to this country. This type of attack is nothing new to this country but until the threat of international terrorism became prominent, there was not a large focus on domestic terrorism. With a look at history, domestic terrorists are a greater threat to security than international terrorists. Some of these threats are easily preventable and others are more difficult to see coming. The Department of Homeland Security needs to focus on domestic terrorist threats with the same effort as they do for
Frankly, to cover each and every theological nugget found within the Beatitudes would be too great of a task to fit into the constraints of this paper. That being said I will focus on those that are extrapolated from the overall text versus those pulled from individuals. Nevertheless, I will make brief mention of these at the end the sake of thoroughness.
Since the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, approximately 330 terrorist attacks have occurred on American soil. The number includes successful and failed attacks from President Lincoln’s assassination until a New York incident with a van running down pedestrians on October 31, 2017. The results also exclude attacks deemed “criminal incidents” and accidents. Of course, not all of the attacks were at the same magnitude of the four coordinated attacks on September 11, 2001. Also, those behind the attacks vary greatly in ethnicity, religion, and background. For example, on August 12, 2017, during a protest by left-wing activists, in the constant debate between left- and right-wing protestors, a vehicle mowed

The truth is that photography really does limit our understanding of the world. Although others may argue that photography deepens their understanding of the world around us, this “world” is the world that the photographer creates. The world that photography shows us is not the entire world, as there is more to see. Photography highly limits the understanding of our world in ways that we were not even aware of. The manipulation of images, showing an unreal world through images, not being able to experience what the photographer experienced, and replacing going places by looking at photographs are ways of how we are limited by photography.
