Watkins Glen International is usually filled with screaming fans and roaring engines, but this weekend, the sounds of racecars is being replaced with the sound of bottles clinking. It's the 2015 Finger Lakes Wine Festival.
"We love the atmosphere down here, it's a lot of fun. We get to come down here and taste a lot of local wines, it's a great time," said Sean Larrabee of Watertown. Sean's crew has been coming to Wine Fest for 10 years! They joked that the weekend is a nice adult getaway. Their favorite part of the weekend is the Launch of the Lakes Toga Party.
"Every year we come up with a different theme, this year we are coming up with a bath tub theme," said Larrabee. Although Sean's crew has been attending the festival for
Among all the communities that are located in West St Catharines, there is some interesting history about Power Glen. Power glen was very different compare to the present day. There were no reservoirs, just the broad shallow valley of Beaverdams Creek (which still flows over DeCew Falls into Twelve Mile Creek), with two major tributaries extending to the east and southeast.(Hughes, 2008) By the time, electricity has not been introduced. During the Pre-European Period, the Niagara Peninsula has a history of aboriginal occupation. At that time of first European contact in the late 16th and early 17th centuries it was inhabited by the Neutral Indians, but in about 1650 they were attacked and destroyed by Iroquois from the Finger Lakes region.(Hughes, 2008) The Iroquois did not occupy the Peninsula. They remained largely uninhibited until the end of the American Revolutionary War in 1783. Power Glen has a history of milling. The history begins with a man called Duncan Murray. He built the first mills in 1786. He then built the Grist mills and saw mills. The Grist mills and saw mills played a significant role as sources of flour and lumber. At first, all the mills are owned by the Crown. Private ownership was not allowed. The restriction was then lifted in 1786. Unfortunately, he died before they were completed; the community came to be known as the Crown Mills. The property was acquired by a merchant named Robert Hamilton. He completed the work in 1787. Hamilton was contracted to supply the military with flour along the Niagara River. He then built a store on Twelve Mile Creek. Hamilton's store was the very first building known to have been built in what became the village of St Catharines. As electricity began to be introduced, the Cataract Power Company of Hamilton constructed a power plant not far downstream from the mills. They changed the name of the community to Power Glen afterwards.
Would you have quit at Valley Forge? Residing in Valley Forge are 12,000 of approximately 25,000 men of the Continental Army. Led by the phenomenal general George Washington, many brave lives are volunteers to fight for independence. Although the Washington’s army was very hopeful, it was having difficulties parting from Britain. Lacking a settlement for the winter of 1777, half the army retreated to Valley Forge. As they were undergoing horrific times, Britain quartered pleasantly in Philadelphia just 18 miles Northwest. Conditions are horrible for Valley Forge, lacking necessities and military aid. Although the French provided money and troops soon after, it was not nearly enough for the camp. The odds aren’t even at all and a troop’s will

Being a student of Greenbrier High School I have lots of opinions that the school could change for better or worse. Now I know that my opinion doesn’t matter to the school and to the faculty. Many times there are searches of student lockers and backpacks along with the student being there in person. Most of the time the people that get searched are the ones that look suspicious. Also are the people that are known for doing drugs. So attracting attention is one main way to get searched. I believe that it does keep people safe. It helps know we are
Lonestar College is the first college that I study in the United States. Everything is new and completely different from my hometown but especially it is very impressive. It was very difficult for me to integrate and to properly handle everything, Lonestar College has helped me a lot, and since then Lonestar College has become very close to me as a second home.
The purpose of this paper is to identify common issues of concern in my community, Huntington Park. In order to identify those issues, I will interview four individuals that live in Huntington Park. The goal of this paper it to identify the problems within the community that are affecting people every day and identify when and how it started, why is it happening, who is getting affected, and what has been done. Each person will be notified that their interview will consist of the interviewer taking notes and will be used for school purposes. Upon approval, this
The University of Wisconsin-Madison struck my eye from the very first time I stepped on campus. It was a beautiful morning in November; the air was brisk, the sun was shining, and the leaves were just beginning to fall. Being from Arizona, there were only two seasonal weather patterns that existed: really hot with a nice, cool winter. I had loved every second at home, but I was ready to experience something new.
T-Bois has been in the Falgout family since the 1950’s. Over the years it has been home to a crawfish business, an alligator farm and most importantly, this unique group of people. It has been the central meeting venue of this community for many years. T-Bois Blues Festival, the group’s largest event began as a Good Friday celebration in Larose, Louisiana decades ago. These gatherings, while local and community-oriented, drew in hundreds of people in the first years. The focus of this group was to bring together the locals and unite the essences of cajun culture. Over the years, T-Bois has grown exponentially. Starting out as a humble gathering of close friends, T-Bois has transformed into something much more. Every year, people from around the world travel to this swampy southern estate to experience this unique fusion of blues music, cajun food, untamed wilderness and street art that can only be found in
Hofstra University is a prestigious, intellectual community. Hofstra’s students are well-rounded intellectuals who have a passion for their studies. As Vice President of my class for two consecutive years I have become a well rounded person through my encounters with my fellow classmates and community. Through community service activities such as Safe Halloween, Senior Citizen Prom, and many food drives with the Student Council and Philosophy Club, I have engaged myself in not only the community writhing the halls of Bethpage High School but also in the Bethpage community. Hofstra University offers numerous clubs and activities which will enable me to continue my involvement in my community. I would love to attend Hofstra University to continue my other activities as well. Mock Trial Club and Yearbook Club have become two of my biggest passions. The dedication to these clubs and preparation necessary to achieve something within these clubs are completely different
There are many different great places to live in the United States. Each region of the US is very different from the others. My favorite region is the Midwest. I like the Midwest for many reasons, but mainly because it contains my hometown.
I'm applying to Hofstra because of everything the school has to offer; location, opportunity, diversity, and a vast variety of degrees and programs. Having NYC right next door and the Hofstra shuttle and the LIRR conveniently near campus will open opportunities for me where no other school I am applying to can. Being a suburban Florida girl it has always been my dream to attend school in New York, Hofstra has a beautiful campus and I am looking forward to making New York my next home. Hofstra offers a great pre-med program and I am looking forward to going into pre-dental, the research opportunities available are very appealing since Hofstra values student research projects. I look forward to taking advantage of the study aboard program in

Traditionally held on the third Saturday in November meant frigid (to Southerners) temperatures in the 40’s so the creators decided a change was needed. This year’s festival will kick off the beginning of the fall festival season in Shreveport-Bossier City and include a festival preview party at Great Raft Brewing on Friday, an official after-party at Twisted Root Burger Company on Saturday, and a Sunday jazz brunch at Rhino Coffee.
Now, this is what you call a celebration, each year is exciting more and more. I’ve met a variety of people, from various parts of Africa, and from many cities in the United States. I would sum it [Juneteenth Festival] up as a huge family reunion in the park.
