In the heart warming movie We Bought A Zoo, directed by Cameron Crowe, Benjamin Mee goes through life trying to fix things. To begin with, Benjamin’s son Dylan gets in trouble at school and is brought to the principal's office. The principal’s window is broken and Benjamin insisted to fix it. Even when Dylan asks his dad to stop fixing the window, Benjamin replies, “No, I can fix it.” (Crowe, x:xx)This is one of the many example Benjamin wants to fix something. Furthermore, when Buster escapes his enclosure Benjamin Mee has to go catch him, the two of them meet face to face on a mountain. Benjamin sees how free Buster is and wants to fix his enclosure. “I saw him up here on the hill, by himself, utterly free . . . I wanna make his enclosure

This film centers around a man named Benjamin Martin. Martin is an excellent soldier who fought in the French and Indian War. Now when it is time to fight for freedom in the colonies, he holds back. It could be because he has lost his wife, or has seven kids; what the audience knows is Benjamin is willing to sacrifice what he believes in to make sure that his children have a safe environment to grow up in. Later in the film, he decides to join the Continental Army to avenge the death of his son. The movie displays principles from people who are fighting for freedom from the British (Colonel Lee), fighting to become an adult (Gabriel), and fighting for family (Benjamin). Two scenes display the conflicting principles between the characters of the movie.
Benjamin Franklyn’s perseverance is one of his most honorable character traits. When he was just 12 years old, he quit school and signed an apprenticeship for 9 years, working for his older brother at his printing shop. Even though Ben loved books and
Benjamin was compassion. He thought about other people before him one example that Benjamin stated was “I gave the other two rolls to a woman and her child that came down the river in the boat.” While he could've ate all of the rolls he had he was kind to give his rolls away to a family, because he knew that the mom couldn’t afford to buy any food so he was nice to help them out.
Even though it did not end with the results he would have wished for, he still tried and would not give up until it was impossible to assist anymore. This is fundamental to Benjamin’s character since he is supposed to an elderly, cranky, ornery donkey, yet has a soft spot for Boxer and made every effort to save him. An example how I am stubborn is when I get infuriated at someone, I am determined to prove them wrong. For instance, when I was younger, a person said to me “I bet you cannot get better than me on this test”.
For many centuries, zoos have served as a way of both educating and entertaining various audiences around the world. However, many ethical and moral concerns have arisen recently regarding the manner in which the animals in these facilities are treated. Zoos disregard the rights of animals because the audiences and employees treat them poorly and animals are unable to thrive in the small enclosures. Journalist Michelle Carr is correct in her claim about the harsh reality of zoos. Even though authors Leslie Kaufman and John Pickrell are accurate when they claim that many zoos serve as educational and conservational institutions, this does not excuse the fact that zoos take advantage of animals in order to make money.
His father was a poor candle maker and had 17 children and two wives to take care of. It almost seemed impossible for Benjamin to be able to study and be successful but he sets an example for the world and new generation. He also showed us that being along is not always bad. He wouldn’t be succeeded if he hadn't left home. Everything in life happens for a reason, every person Benjamin met and learned new lessons of life helped him to get one step closer to his success.
Imagine you had all of the answers but you didn't share them or use them to your own advantage. Benjamin is the animal in the story that does this. It seems like he always knows what is going on but never wants to speak up about it. In the story when the pigs are try to teach all of the other animals about the alphabet and to teach them to read, benjamin does not want to be involved and learn because he already knows how to read but doesn't tell anyone that he can. He notices things that the other animals don’t throughout the story.
What was at one time used to show off wealth and power is now seen as a symbol of sadness and disgust, despite the many minds it blesses with wonder (Adwait- Kulkarni). Today there are huge controversies over Zoos and whether they are inhumane or not. There are also controversies about the United States of America and other countries. Many comparisons can be drawn between a Zoo and American culture. We go out to look at animals that are trapped in a place they have no control of, but could we really be looking at ourselves?
In the heart warming movie We Bought a Zoo, directed by Cameron Crowe, Benjamin Mee deals with life’s issues by trying to fix them. An example of this is when, at the beginning of the movie, Benjamin and his son are in the principal’s office because Dylan got expelled. Ben gets annoyed by the squeaky window frame and tries to fix it. “Frame’s a little loose. I…Just give me one second” (Crowe, x:xx) says Ben when the principal walks into the room. Furthermore, Benjamin tries to fix his and his family’s life by ‘starting over’ and buying a new house. They end up buying a house that is on the property of a zoo that has been shut down and Ben thinks he can fix it up. “Well, yeah. Look, these animals need somebody to rescue them” (Crowe, x:xx) says

Zoos present a certain blend of nature and culture. They have always provided a way to bring natural wildlife and urban Americans together as a means of entertainment. Yet, throughout the years the role of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history.
Utopia by Thomas More, and The Symposium by Plato are similar in that they both challenge pre-existing notions in society. The two stories prompt readers to reconsider certain aspects of life which one might have found to be quite one-sided. Thomas More introduces us to an island called Utopia which serves as a model of perfection in each facet of everyday life. In The Symposium, Plato and his friends contribute distinctive interpretations on the origin and meaning of love. Both author’s purpose in their writings was to confront ideas in which society has a rather common shared perception of.
Who I am is made up from several aspects of my life and how I’ve developed over the years. Ever since I was younger, I was ambitious and tried to work my hardest to make everyone around of me proud. Of course, what third grader wouldn’t want to be praised? My elementary years were a breeze to me; I didn’t worry about making friends because it came naturally to me, I was in several advanced programs, and I made my parents happy, so everything felt amazing to me.
The main aim of zoos is to protect and conserve global biodiversity and wildlife. To do this they have four roles to play which are; research, conservation, education and welfare.
