The movie I have chosen is “We Bought a Zoo”, directed by Cameron Crowe. Four themes of this movie include family, sacrifice, grief, and ultimately, hope. Family is including by the main character, Benjamin, staying strong for the sake of his two children after his wife passes away. Sacrifice is used in “We Bought a Zoo” by Benjamin deciding to help Kelly Foster and her small wildlife team reopen and renovate a zoo. He ends up dedicating his money, time, and heart to the animals and the zoo. Small hints of grief throughout the film are apparent because of references back to Benjamin’s wife. Eventually, hope becomes a large theme towards the end of the movie as the zoo has become more than a dream and Benjamin and Kelly fall in love.

The movie I chose was Easy A because there are many psychological concepts this movie that relate to real-life events and it covers many theories we learned about in this class. Easy A was released in 2010 and directed by Will Gluck. It’s about a teenage girl named Olive who accidentally admits to her friend Rhi that she was having sexual relations with boys. She felt pressured into lying since her friend had already engaged in sexual acts with her boyfriend. A rumor then spread and many people in the school then ignored Olive because they thought what she did was an immoral act, but the guys started giving her more attention. I feel that this applies to many
We bought a zoo is a family movie where a family consisting of a dad and two children buy a home that is also a zoo. The youngest daughter, Rosie tries to make situations seem better by making people laugh. An example of her doing this is when Dylan, the older kid and the dad, Benjamin Mee get into a fight and Benjamin says “We still a 7 year old that believes in the easter bunny.” Rosie comes out after the fight and says “what about the easter bunny?” I thought this was a good movie so you should check it out if you have the chance, Rosie was definitely one of my favorite
Taronga Zoo – officially opened on the 7th of October 1916 – has been able to withstand the test of time, and today – some ninety years after being established – remains a prime tourist attraction in the heart of Sydney. By remaining open daily from 9am to 5pm (365 days a year, even Christmas Day!) the zoo is able to ensure that all zoo goers (including tourists and families) have plenty of time to explore the zoo, to take in the amazing scenery and views and even attend a show or two! Included in the price of entry is a free Newspaper (Sydney Morning Herald), access to the Cable Car and free access to several shows the run throughout the day at the zoo (most notable of which is the improved Free Flight Bird
Describe a major theme of the movie you have selected using evidence from the movie itself as well as
Founded in 1875 in Buffalo, New York, the Buffalo Zoo quickly became a popular tourist attraction. However, as time went on, the outdated buildings and unenthusiastic employees led to a decline in zoo visitors. The zoo began to face several challenges, and the most significant was the fear of losing its accreditation. The president at the time devised a plan to move the Buffalo Zoo to Delaware Park, but that was quickly blocked by employees of the zoo and members of the community. With no support and no where to turn, the president decided to resign. This left the zoo with no plan, and no one to guide them. After extensive searching, the zoo made the decision to hire 43-year-old Donna Fernandes. Donna had an extensive background in education and experience in management and caring for animals. Although Donna seemed like the perfect candidate for the position, she was warned that the employees and community would be reluctant to accept her due to previous negative experiences with poor management and failed attempts to save the zoo. This did not deter Donna, and she worked hard to change those negative experiences into positive ones.
The movie I chose was Sling blade. I chose this movie partly because of the story line, and partly because of the langauge. It's a story about a guy named Karl Childers (the main character), a mentally challanged fellow who has been in a mental institution since he was a child of 12 years old for the murder of his mother and her lover. This movie starts at the mental institution where Karl has lived for the past 20 years.
These three stories don’t have much in common besides the fact that they talk about zoos and animals. They also all agree that something has to be done in order to make sure these animals are safe, non-extinct, and happy. For example, “The Stripes Will Survive” is about helping Siberian Tigers and other cats overcome possible extinction by organizations coming together to set aside protected areas of land for Siberian Tigers and Cats. “ Zoos Go Wild” work to help a gorilla and other animals feel close to home by creating spaces in the zoos that look just like where then came from. Last but not least, “Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment” works with Macaws to help them have more enrichment by creating a better environment for birds with supplies to support their total
In the book Slaughterhouse five, by Kurt Vonnegut, Billy Pilgrim is imprisoned in a zoo by aliens called Tramafladorians after he is abducted and taken to their planet. This zoo is furnished to look like a catalog home and the Tramaflodorians are adequately entertained by the mundane occurrences of his everyday life. His only other human company is a young film star named Montana Wildhack with whom he eventually starts a family. During his time at the zoo he learns about the philosophy of the aliens and the way that they perceive the passage of time. His time on planet Tramafladore is interspersed with other parts of his life because Billy Pilgrim time travels frequently into other times in his life. He time travels frequently to his time in Tramafladore during certain points of loneliness or captivity including his time as a prisoner of war during World War II. His time as a prisoner of the Tramafladorian Zoo seems to be a reflection of Billy Pilgrim’s time as a prisoner of war because of the juxtaposition of the events due to his time travel. The purpose of the Tramafladorian Zoo in relation to the novel serves to be a parallel to Billy Pilgrim’s time as a prisoner of war in Germany that also provides him relief during difficult times after the war. During his time in the Zoo he has the freedom to live an alternative life under captivity.
The book Wildlife by Cynthia Defelice is an outstanding book. It is a fiction book which means that it did not happen in real life. This is about a kid named Erik that found out his mom and dad had to get shipped to a foreign country to serve and fight for their country. He must go live with his grandma and grandpa for a long time. He does not want to go but his parents have nowhere else to send him. A dog then shows up at Erik’s grandmas steps and Erik wants to keep it. He then runs away with the dog and goes hunting with it and his grandma and grandpa worry about him very much. He then comes back to the house after being out so long and the dog’s owner comes back and gets the dog.
The opening scene of the Zookeeper’s Wife is vital in establishing the binary between the oasis of the zoo before the war and the destruction the war brings. Natural sunlight fills the first scene of the film and green is a common color found throughout the zoo. The first scene oozes natural beauty and signifies the life that occupies it. The zoo seems almost too perfect, like it could not possibly be a creation of man, but of one gifted from the heavens. The zoo begins as the Garden of Eden in the midst of Poland, but as the war erupts, it mimics the original sin, destroying the zoo turning its sanctuary into a thing of the past. The ash from the ghettos covers the zoo and literally represents destruction of not only the ghetto but, the former
In this one moment the ideas behind the movie crystalize: freedom versus imprisonment, inside and outside. The small animal stops on the fence and looks towards the other
We The Animals, by Justin Torres, includes a variety of themes. There are themes of abuse, self-destruction, love, and etc. A theme that I have seen reoccur throughout the novel is the theme of exploration of one’s age. This theme can be seen especially in Ma’s character. In the chapter, “Never-Never Time”, Ma walks in on the boys (brothers) messing with tomatoes and lotion in the kitchen. After realizing what her children were doing, she asked them to “do it to [her]” and to “make [her] born” (Torres 6). As an adult, you would think she would have disciplined them. Instead, Ma engaged in the childlike activities with her children hinting a sense of immaturity. Fast forward to the chapter “Lina”, Ma once again reverts back to her role as a
Birth, Love, Marriage and Death are the different stages of life that occur in the play Our Town. These three stages have a central theme of love and life as well as have a religious affiliation. The religious affiliation with the play is brought to life with the numerous appearances of the hymn "Blest Be The Tie That Binds.” The “tie” in the hymn refers to the tie between the Holy Spirit and humans as well as the tie between Emily and George.
The Oklahoma City Zoo first opened its doors at Wheeler Park in 1902. It started out as a small exhibition when they received their first animal donation, a deer fawn. Of course, people flocked to the zoo. They were amazed that they could stand a few feet away from a live animal without fearing for their lives. By 1909, the Oklahoma City Zoo had over 100 animals. The zoo was a triumph! Unfortunately, disaster struck in 1923. A disastrous and tragic flood had occurred at Wheeler Park and caused the zoo to move to Lincoln Park. The very next year, a fatal fire spread throughout Lincoln Park. Miraculously, many small areas of the park survived the fire. However, the zoo was reconstructed on another 17 acres at the park. A director was also hired and new exhibits were built including the Botanical Garden and the Zoo Amphitheatre. The Oklahoma City Zoo also acquired a nursing home for the little ones. From that point on, the Oklahoma City Zoo was a grand success!
The movie I chose to watch is Courageous. The precipitating event in this movie is the car accident that takes the life of Emily Mitchell. Her father, Adam Mitchell, and the rest of her family are traumatized by the sudden death of their 9 year old daughter/sister. In thinking about information that would be gained in the first contact with Adam Mitchell, one thing that stands out about his previous state of mind/functioning is that he was somewhat uninvolved with his children, taking them for granted. This fact can also be a trigger for how he processes this event, causing a crisis for him as he realized his
