“SHE GON LEARN”, a one-woman show that shows the journey of a young woman growing up and learning from her mistakes. The show is not chronological, the main actor and also writer Lisa Rosetta Strum jumps around in the life of the character she is playing. She puts together life lessons where the main character learns something about her life and about how to handle herself in certain situations. Through out the whole performance the audience visits different times in the girls life where she learned an important lesson or experienced something traumatic, which in the end she learned from. Lisa Strum represents a very strong young woman, and young girl switching roles throughout the whole play, which gives the audience insight on how this young …show more content…
All the characters she played were key people in the journey to self-discovery for the main character. Most of the time the characters brought her down and made her feel bad about her person. Although there was one character that helped her through her daily struggles. This character was her grandmother, who helped her with advice a few times. Otherwise each character would take advantage of her, yell at her, or make fun of her. A good example of a lesson she learned when she was young was when she was trying to get the attention of a young boy who she would try to play basketball with after school. Being so young and naive she believe this boy to be her boyfriend after just one conversation with him, the next day when she mentioned that she was his girlfriend, he responded quickly by making fun of her and leaving. But gradually her boy problems only worsened, as she got older because things became more serious. The title “SHE GON LEARN” is a good representation of the show because it really is the journey of a woman fighting her way through life making the best of it and learning from her
She realizes that the person she was as she is growing up is not who she must become as a mature youth and adult. She envisions a good life for herself and accepts that she has every right to live that life she desires. Though the Walls parents have done many wrongs to Jeannette there is one life lesson that they have instilled into her. They have empowered Jeannette with the energy and hunger to have the best education that she can obtain. ” I’ve always believed in the value of a good education” (Walls 265).
A main point in what she is doing and where she ends up getting hurt the most is trying to make her parents care more about her. You can tell all she wants wants is appreciation for what's she does but when they don’t even notice her she ends up working harder. When they do pay a little attention to her she works really hard to be able to have that moment with them again. But they sometimes unfairly blame her for stuff she didn't
Diction is the word choice used by an author. Syntax is the way words are used to create a sentence. Imagery is using descriptive words to create a sensory experience for the reader. In the story “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros, diction, syntax, and imagery are used to give the speaker a youthful voice.
Throughout the novel, the readers have the ability to follow along Jeanette’s life story. She deals with her distracted yet present parents. They remind her of the important lessons in life. One of the most important lessons that Jeannette learns is that life will eventually work in the end and if it still isn't working that just means it is not the end
Her father later told her that she was a special girl, that not many little girls can cook or boil water all on their own. Jeannette realizes that she is special just by this happening and later learned to laugh at her crisis. All of her life, decisions affected her life growing up. She decides that she will be the person she wants to be. Jeannette has had a rough life, but as soon as she faced a crisis, she learned something new about herself.
She smoothes over Sofia's betrayal of the family, her running away and fighting with her father, by calling it lucky that she ended up with such a loving husband and a beautiful blonde baby. Her story about the thieves who got caught the night Sofia was born similarly reflects her desire to look on the brighter side of things. She needs this positive attitude to craft positive family stories out of unfortunate events.
Lastly, her family betrayed her by not listening to her side of the story after her sister told lies about her, and they betrayed her when they acted as if they did not care if she moved out of the house. In all of these actions, the family itself and certain members of the family are portrayed as uncaring, unsupportive, disrespectful, conniving, deceitful, and hateful to Sister. Through every action of the family, Sister is treated harshly, and she tries to not let this bother her. Yet, anger and bitterness build up inside of her until she cannot take it anymore. Consequently, it built up so much inside of her that it severely affected Sister so profoundly that she moved away from her home to get away from her family.
Initially Jeannette Walls relied on her parents to make decisions for her. However over the course of the book her maturity transforms into self resilience. All these experiences and decisions change her over time. She starts out a young clueless and dependant person. After many lessons she ends up a realistic down to earth independent person that gives her the best life possible.
She uses her desire to further her education, an escape plan with her sister, and her shame from being a forager to motivate her to bring a change into her life. Despite the constrictions
Blanche was a school teacher in Mississippi, but when she got fired for having intimate relationships with underaged boys, she moved in with her sister. Her sister, Stella is married to Stanley, who abuses her and yet she still does not leave him. Stella and Stanley have a toxic relationship, where they both have a mutual dislike for each other, but because of societal norms at the time, were unable to leave each other. Both female characters are victims to Stanley’s abuse and hurt ego. I personally do not like any of the characters, I do not get a good “feel” about them. They are all hurt in one way or another and do not know the correct way to express themselves. However, these character do remind me of how the society in third world countries expect families to be. In third world countries, men are the head of the households, and any women living under the roof is expected to follow their orders.
With no moral support from people around her she in unable to find a way to be who she wants to be. She says that she was told she had everything needed to be in the movies, to be a successful actress, and that instead of being in the ranch, she could've been out there. She often finds herself leaning towards Lennie, making attempts to actually win a friend for once, telling him her story and that she wishes she would've just went with the guy to become an actress. Loneliness and isolation are a big part of her not being able to achieve her goals. She ends up setting for someone who does not care for her, who pushes her aside as if she's nothing. Maybe she could have been someone if it wasn't for her need for a friend and support. Curley's wife could have been an actress known nationwide, if she didn't depend on others, if only she would have just went for it, believing in herself
On the evening of July 27th, I attended a production of “Carrie: The Musical” based on the novel “Carrie” by Stephen King. The musical was performed by Near West Theater in Cleveland and directed by Devon Turchan. The main character who name is Carrie White is an outcast through the entire play and her entire life you learn this when the other students talk about past experiences with Carrie. The main antagonist in the play is her very own mother Margaret White. Ms.White is a very religious woman that wants to protect Carrie from the dangers in the world and even herself, very overprotective women and to what I believe very crazy. The plot is brought to life by supporting characters/actors in the play who names are Sue Nell, Tommy Ross, Chris Hargensen, Billy Nolan, Miss Gardner. The actions of all these people building up and resting on carrier shoulders throughout the play cause her to find out she has powers. The end of Act II is when everything comes together Carrie who was invited to the prom by Tommy Ross in a generous gesture that was purposed by Sue Nell. The prom was going very well and Carrie was becoming carefree and was seeing everything she missed out on. Things took things for the worse when Chris and Tommy pour pigs blood on her when she won prom queen. Carrie took all the frustration and years of bullying and the powers she found out about she burned everyone alive at the prom. When she got home she was covered in blood and was crying her very own mom took

I’ve learned a lot of useful tips from this semester in ENG 201. English has never been my strong suit nor has it been my favorite class. However this college course has changed my point of view of the subject. Prior coming into college I viewed English as a useless class because I’ve already knew the basics: how to talk, read and write essays. Today I view English as an important class. It helped me in other courses that involved writing, such as World Civilization and Communications, because it allowed me to practice my skills. In my world civilization exams I had to write essays. This course helped me write an impactful essay. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost all of my exam scores were in the 90s, usually I do poorly in the
Educating Rita tells a story of a 26-year-old married hairdresser, Rita, who decided to get education by taking a course in English literature from the Open University. Through the development of the relationship between Rita and her alcoholic and cynical tutor, Frank, this story brings up many concepts in adult development and education. After watching the movie, I have a further understanding of the concepts of changes, motivation to learn, freedom, and stability.
