Picture this you wake up one day and there are 1,000 more people living on your land. It’s a pretty large piece of land with enough supplies to support your lifestyle. However, with 1,000 more people living in that same area, it has become crowded and compact. The next day, 1,000 more people come to live with you. This continues to happen every day for many years, soon supplies start to stretch thin and space starts to be a rarity. Unfortunately, this is our reality. There are 7.4 billion human beings on the face of the Earth and just in the United States alone there are 323 million. According to some estimates, there are somewhere between three and seven times more people than this planet can possibly maintain over a long period of time. Each day the world’s population grows more and more everyday this is drawing closer to that limit. In the past, childhood deaths and short life spans used to limit the population growth. Now, thanks to improved nutrition, sanitation, and medical care, more of us are living longer and longer. This is becoming a liability, and no one can afford to ignore this expanding problem. The growing populations tend to threaten economic development and economic instability. The quality of life and the environment are also being hurt. We are slowly becoming a pollution to this planet in order to continue living prosperous lives we must find a way to slow down the population rate.
Life is a precious thing but when does producing life become a problem? Human population growth has been a topic of discussion, among one of the many concern the world faces now. Human population growth in the twentieth century has become a slow growth rate. And even though population growth rate has decreased does not mean we are in the clear. Human population growth issues are influenced: health concerns, accessing education and technology
Population Growth is an issue that exists in today’s world that needs to be confronted before it becomes out of hand. The population itself has reached overwhelming numbers making it a problem that could turn to be dangerous. The amount of humans that the earth can support or the carrying capacity is slowly rising but at a much slower rate than the population growth rate. The increasing growth rate has its negative effects environmentally, agriculturally, socially, and economically and also has its positive effects nationally, and economically. The government is brainstorming and trying to come up with ways to decrease
We, as humans, are in a very dire situation. Sometime near the year 1800, the population of the Earth had reached one billion residents (Roster & Ortiz-Ospina, 2013). In the last two hundred years, however, the population of Earth has exploded to almost eight billion. The rate of increase is like nothing we have ever seen before in the history of the planet. One billion new earthlings were added in the last fourteen years (Roster, 2017). Many factors are at play which have directly impacted this exponential population growth. With limited resources and land available, we as humans are reaching a defining moment (Dimick, 2014). Protecting necessary resources such as clean air, fresh water, and a sufficient food supply, while simultaneously supporting steady population growth will be a huge challenge in our future. The population growth rate of humans on this planet will become a huge factor in the survivability of our species. Taking responsibility and changing our behavior may be the only way to save ourselves.
Humanity as a whole is growing exponentially and this growth is anything but consistent. Many nations will be experiencing population decreases while other experience intense population growth. The impending impact of that fact is scaring a multitude of countries on the international market. In this essay I will answer three of the major pressing questions facing the world as they try to prepare themselves for this drastic change.
The world is being over populated with humans not only in China but in the United States of America as well. The problem isn’t as obvious in the United States as in other countries, but I believe over-populated nations will soon become a problem everywhere in the world. Population is not a bad thing in all situations, but I think that our population growth problem is un-healthy and needs to slow down. I believe there are several ways to come about this problem as well. Population can be slowed down in many ways; it’s just how we choose to execute this problem.
The world is growing at an extremely fast rate which will lead to an unhealthy place for people to live in. If current trends persist, there will be 2.5 billion more people on the planet by mid-century. It will be difficult to feed that many people. There are many problems with population growth and the laws associated with it, but there are also ways to counteract these issues. By spreading awareness, creating laws, and more family planning we can prevent population from growing out of control.
The human population is growing rapidly, and Earth doesn't have enough space for it. In 1967, Earth had a population of 3 billion, and only about 50 years later, that number had doubled into 7 billion. There are many reasons why our population is increasing so fast, in so little time, but I'll only go over two. The first, and foremost the most recognised reason, is the birth to death rate ratio. Every minute there is almost twice as many births then there are deaths; 200 births to 100 deaths. There is an estimated 350,000 born every day with only 150,000 deaths, making there 4 births every second and 2 deaths every second. Overwhelming right? Well the second reason which goes hand in hand with the birth to death rate, is, over the last few hundred years, we have become more intelligent, and more self aware. Our knowledge on medicine has grown like no other, and our life expectancy has grown with it. With many more factors modifying our population rate, these two show it best. We are living longer and having more babies, but soon we’ll need to stop.
There are many articles and newspapers about how bad the world is becoming overpopulated. The overpopulation of humans and animals is a constant threat to people way of life on earth. Monbiot states, “The growth in human numbers, they say, is our foremost environmental threat” (Monbiot 1). Suggestions for extending women’s reproductive choices should be made, and the world population would drop dramatically because of this. George states, “If this need were answered, the impact of population growth would be significant, though not decisive: the annual growth rate of 83 million would be reduced to 62 million” (Monbiot 1). Because the population of the world is increasing drastically, many problems are created and produces many effects.
Overpopulation needs to stop before the world runs out of run out of resources that the everybody need to survive. The first step is to begin talking candidly about the issues. Overpopulation cannot continue to be the problem that dares not speak its name. Humans are not just fouling their nest, but crowding it beyond its capacity. Only when both problems are taken seriously and become part of respectable discourse will we be able to move ahead on the steps necessary to deal with the self-destructive way we are treating our
One of the problems facing our world is population. It began about ten thousand years ago when the humans settled and began farming. The farming provides more food for the people thus making the population grow. Now we are about 6 billion in population and in a few years we will be around 10 to 11 billion. Therefore, our population will
Human population growth is becoming a huge issue in our world today. The population is increasing rapidly. The reason that it is becoming a concern is because it has affected the economic, environmental, and social aspects of our world. In the film Frontline: Heat, we can see how there might not be a future for our planet unless we are able to reduce the emissions and make our world a safe place. Not only for the present but also for future generations so that they are able to live long and healthy lives.
Growing advances in technology with each coming year has affected humanity in many ways. Technology has given us the ability to save lives and create better medical treatment for all. A direct result of this has been increased lifespan and the growth of the population. In the past fifty or so years, the growth of population has increased rapidly and has turned into overpopulation. Developing countries face the problem of overpopulation more than developed countries, but it affects most of the Earth as of now. World population growth is causing many alarming problems. The population will continue growing in some parts of the world whilst others stabilize, with some estimates putting the final population of the world as high as 12 billion.
The impact of human activity on the environment is catastrophically devastating and destructible. Assisting to that destruction is the increasing number of people that make up the worlds population today. Overpopulation is the condition of giving birth to a number of people living on earth that over exceeds the amount of space, resources and land found on our planet. According to reports from the United Nations (2007), “World population is currently growing by approximately 75 million people per year.” Such growth should be considered alarming and a possible threat to people as well as our environment. Humans all over the world must understand that these changes in population growth will foreshadow many changes
The population continues to grow throughout the years. Currently with seven billion people in the world, has shown how much the population has grown from the 1960’s. Humans live trying to be comfortable and free, in a sense humans want to live a good, perfect life that will benefit them. As doing so, humans do not see the danger the ecosystem, animals, and especially ocean life goes through. The environment is being effected by humans, why are we humans not doing enough to balance out the human and environmental needs? Human population is the root of most pressing environmental problems including wildlife, extinction crisis, habitat loss, and climate change.
