;Marijuana has been falsely criticized since the beginning of the century. The fact is that the legalization of marijuana can only have positive effects. Marijuana has been proven to be less likely to create crime, it can be used as a medicine, and isn’t any more harmful than most other legal substances on the market. It’s hard to understand why it is illegal. Legalizing marijuana would reduce the numbers in our prisons, help the country medically, and make money for the government by taxing the plant.

The research by the government in the past was in no way scientific. One experiment included placing three rats in a small-concealed container and overloading it with marijuana smoke. The rats obviously died but in no way was it because of the marijuana. Any type of smoke would’ve killed these rats, including tobacco. Why is tobacco legal? Legalizing this plant would free this medicine. That effect can greatly help society. Glaucoma patients rely heavily on marijuana as it eases their pain and helps blood flow to the eyes. Marijuana is one of the better medicines recommended to Glaucoma patients. If it has been proven to be effective, why isn’t it fully available to the people?
     Many substances on the market are just as harmful, if not more harmful than marijuana. Tobacco and alcohol are equally if not more harmful. Tobacco and alcohol are also more addictive than marijuana. Marijuana users smoke much less than the average cigarette smoker. Marijuana is also natural with no added chemicals (most of the time); unlike cigarettes that contain rat poison, ammonia, nicotine, and carbon monoxide. Tobacco and alcohol have also killed many more people than marijuana. There has never been a reported case of death due to marijuana. People have died on marijuana, but not from it. If cigarettes and alcohol are legal, this plant should be legal. A good effect from legalizing it would be taxing the plant. The government
