On October 18th, I presented a speech that informed the class about Candace Cameron Bure. The topics that I covered during my speech included Candace Cameron Bure’s early life, TV shows, movies, and personal life. Looking back on my speech, I discovered my strengths, weaknesses, and how to improve my weaknesses into strengths. During my speech, I presented many different strengths. One of the strengths that I had included having a detailed slide with many pictures. I did a good job organizing the slides on my PowerPoint while incorporating various amounts of pictures. The pictures that included went along with what I was presenting. Another strength that I possessed was finding research about my topic. Research is one of the most important
Cole Jackson period 7 The time of sunshine or summer soldiers is now coming to an end as the colonies enter a time of action needed un order to continue this fight for independence against the British. During the time period, British government had been taxing the colonies for breathing practically. Colonists just withstood an eight-month winter toil in which they were unable to strike or fight back. Thomas Paine, seeing the ripe opportunity for action, called on colonists to form and build a militia to prove a point to the British and how serious colonists are about freedom. However, many people feared the idea of a militia as they felt this was a too bold and harsh decision to go against the British army. Throughout Crisis No. 1, Paine connects
A convocation is a special gathering of a group of individuals formally assembled for a special purpose. North Carolina A&T’s Fall Convocation was an assembling for academic and athletic recognition that brought great encouragement. The great speaker gave vital information regarding tactics to push toward success for students and teachers. Dr. Anthony Graham’s great motto, “Keep your hand in the plow, hold on,” is very impactful and has great meaning, encouraging you to reach your set goals.
Brechin begins his chapter with President Ronald Reagan's speeches which “fir[e] the public imagination with short, symbolic messages”. Reagan promoted ideas such as purpose, freedom and history’s journey. An example which he refers to is the Alamo which pushed pest singing the idealistic song of daring, decent and fair. Despite the poor conditions Washington faced the president spoke of dreams and human progress which is limitless. Brechin refers back to this speech throughout the chapter since these same ideas were used to convince individuals to take the journey to California. This journey was promoted as natural as the Israelites who entered Canaan and the holy family to the New World. Individuals were granted divine justification for
Transitory processes are evoked from a series of significant events or a prolonged realisation which in turn reshape an individual’s values, beliefs and attitudes. This process often demands a loss of innocence or gaining of knowledge towards an event or idea that holds the most significance to the individual involved. Both The Story Of Tom Brennan (TSOTB) by J.C Burke and He’s Counting Down From 21 by Patrick Roche address the varying consequences of short and long term alcohol abuse on both the consumer and significant others. Both composers masterfully convey that it is not the experience itself that holds the most significance when transitioning, but people’s capacity to distance themselves and reflect on the events and those involved.
While living in the South, Richard refuses to accept the racial stereotypes imposed on him as a black man. He tries to fight for himself to create his own identity until realizing that his only hope was to leave the South. On his high school graduation, Richard shows his strong heart by reading his own speech, rather than reading the speech written for him by the principal. He remembers, “On the night of graduation I was nervous and tense; I rose and faced the audience and my speech rolled out. When my voice stopped there was some applause. I did not care if they liked it or not; I was through” (Wright 211). Richard refuses to accept white people talking for him, as the principal had tried to, and speaks up for himself. Rather than conforming
Alexander H. Stephen, in the ‘Cornerstone Speech’, firmly stated that, the Confederacy was basically on racial inequality and slavery. He clearly outlined the existing differences between the new nation and the American United States. Stephen made it clear that, the Confederacy of the cornerstone was not primarily of chattel slavery, but the black people subordination benefited the white people. Thus, he tied slavery to race. Confederacy was the origin of the era of apartheid in South Africa. Stephen made declarations that the new government was founded on the great truth , that the negro was not equal on the side of the white people and that, slavery which was to be a subordination to the white race which was superior, was a normal and a natural condition. Stephen criticized the claims of the northern that, African enslavement was a law violation nature and that it was a wrong principle, morally, politically and socially. He clearly put across that his new government had an idea which was exactly different from the northern claims. He argued that, it was a kind of insanity to believe that the Negro will be equal between the white and black people and also that, enslaving the blacks was wrong. He made predictions that, the Confederate constitution has settled all the questions relating to the African slavery which existed among the white people. Stephen’s arguments led to the outbreak of the civil war in 1865 (The Teaching AmericanHistory.org, 2017).
Overall, I felt that I achieved that goal of informing my audience about experiments in social psychology. Some of strengths include achieving my message, incorporating my sources into the speech, and how well practiced my introduction was. My weaknesses include eye contact, speaking too fast, and wrapping up the speech. I know that after watching myself deliver the speech, I will know what to improve and what to continue doing for my persuasive
I ensured whilst I made my presentation that I spoke clearly and steadily. I have a tendency to talk quickly so I paid particular attention to controlling the speed of my voice. I also ensured I maintained eye contact with my audience and tried not to focus just on one individual.
During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. Another thing I did well during the speech was, that I kept eye contact with everyone during the speech
Other strengths that I exhibit include being structured, responsible, articulate, task-oriented, determined, confident, effective planner, visionary, and possessing the ability to manage resources effectively. Being structured allows me to set parameters that we can all work within to achieve the overall company goals. Structure builds bonds and a sense of cohesiveness in the workplace. This type of unity will be necessary for the success of the organization. We can all work towards common goals if clear goals are outlined for everyone. The other strengths will all work together as well.
First, I will start with the aspects that I have exceled at during my informative speech. The first strength would be the use of my sources and how I included them and cited them in the presentation. Overall I found 6 great sources which helped be better
My reaction to this video indicated that Ron Finley took the time out to show an interest for others. He focused on others well-being as he also encouraged and promoted a healthy lifestyle. He wanted to transform his neighborhood by growing food on empty lots and putting people to work and getting the children off the streets. Ron Finley was effective in his speech as he gave the people the tools that were needed to succeed in their diets to be able to live a healthier and prosperous life. He convinced the community that eating healthy promotes an extended life span, as he reached out to the
Out of all the speeches I presented this semester, I considered this speech to be the best one I ever presented in this class. I chose a topic that integrated perfectly in a college setting as well as delivered it with information that was supported with both visual and oral aides. I also kept a steady pace and did not go over my time constraints, allowing the audience to understand the points I was trying to make throughout my entire speech. As for the competencies, I had strengths in all the
In a Learning team, presentation skills are very important. I would have to say that Presentation Skills would be one of my personal weaknesses in the Learning team. It is difficult for me at times to stand up in front of a room full of people and present a project or conduct some sort of meeting. In order to do so, you have to have confidence that what you?re talking about is accurate and the motivation to actually get up do it. My biggest fear of a presentation would be tripping and falling on my face or
The biggest strength I have is to be creative with the situation that I am given. This in not only a skill that suggest that one can synthesize material to give it a sense of authenticity, but also can adapt and accommodate in the moment. Even the best planners can have a poor classroom dynamic; the rigidity of these classes is what prevents them from engaging students in the moment. I genuinely believe in effective planning and mythology but I also believe in breaking from the script and to accommodate the needs of learners in creative ways.
