I’m applying to UA Early College because I want to be able to step into college ahead of the game. I have been an overachiever since I was little and take each chance I get handed to me. This program additionally prepares me for courses I will take when in college. It gives a more profound understanding of how classes will be and the paces they will go at.
Taylor Branch constructed an essay, “The Shame of College Sports,” arguing for corruption to end in collegiate sports. In his essay, Branch begins with the creation of the NCAA and how it became so powerful. But, the NCAA couldn’t hold all of the revenue because the big time colleges felt they deserved more money for bringing in the revenue in the first place. After colleges started to abide by the “eat what they kill” mentality, big colleges started to start making undesirable decisions in order to get more funding for their schools. The examples listed by Branch include: under-the-table monetary compensation to bride high school athletes, pay-to-play funds to give athletes money while they played, and allowing academically-challenged athletes
In the essay “The Shame of College Sports,” Taylor Branch examines the flaws of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in college sports regarding “amateurism” (Branch 227) and the “student-athlete” (227). In doing so, Branch discusses the history of college sports and the National Collegiate Athletic Association while emphasizing certain regulations such as allowing multinational organizations to advertise their brand on athletic gear but athletes cannot use any of their memorabilia to get cash or a free tattoo at a tattoo parlor (227). Branch also argues that athletes are being manipulated for their skills and fame from the National Collegiate Athletic Association and universities and further irritates that they make money off the “unpaid
Everyone has a favorite sports team, right? The Alabama Crimson Tide is the best football team in college football. Under the leadership of Head Coach Nick Saban, Alabama has won 7 of the last 10 Championships. Alabama is in Southeastern Conference (SEC). The SEC is arguably the best Division I Conference in all of college football. They are consistently ranked as one of the top five teams and has one of the toughest schedules in football. Under the pressure of a number one ranking, Alabama defeated five top twenty-five teams including number seven University of Southern California (USC), number twenty-five Texas A&M, number four Washington, number twelve Florida, and number seventeen Louisiana State University (LSU). Alabama finished the

Number 4 is breaking a tackle heading for the end zone... The crowd is going crazy… 4th down, 5 seconds left after a called timeout. Johnny Mox rolls out of the pocket, can’t find an open Receiver. He takes off sprinting for the outside… blockers taking out enemies left and right like it’s WWll. He makes a cut to the inside, number 11 shaking in his boots, Johnny Mox does the jab step spin move right around him! Amazing! Number 11, hanging on to Mox’s towel as he watches it rip away. 30… 20… 10… Touchdown! The Johnny Mox takes the Tigers to the Louisiana State Championship! No one believes what just happened. Johnny Mox, first time starting, breaks a finger biting tackle that will be within this team forever. Number 11 made full
To the majority of America, Auburn University Football is just a sport. To the thousands of Auburn Tigers fans worldwide, it is so much more than that. Tim Stanfield describes it as “…more than a game…it’s a passion” (Stanfield et al. 61). The culture surrounding Auburn Tigers football is a family and tight-knit community. As Pat Dye, past coach of the Auburn Tigers puts it, “We are close here, and that is part of what it means to be a Tiger” (Glier xii). There are generations of Tigers fans, “family” traditions, and the support and encouragement of a family behind every Tiger out there playing. To be a
The sheer size of many college campuses is enough to startle oncoming freshmen and not to mention the student body size. Between Alabama and Mississippi State, the latter claims the title for the largest campus. The university occupies a total of 4,200 acres and is home to 20,873 students. While Alabama is nowhere near competing with Mississippi State in terms of size; this school can claim the prize of having the larger student body. Alabama has a total of 30,752 students enrolled in classes as of 2016.
Diane is a southern transplant, Roll Tide, living in Spokane since 2014. She is enjoying all things Pacific Northwest with her husband, dog, and two cats. Thanks to travelling with her husband, she has determined there is no better way to explore a new city than running through it street by street, trail by trail. Diane embraces an active, biophilic, and inquisitive lifestyle. She has a strong love for running, but more so a strong love for getting lost in the woods. If you do not see Diane in the store, she is probably climbing one of the top ten mountain peaks in Washington.
Alabama has had success in the there football program. Alabama has had some of the best coaches in College football history like Bear Bryant (Hoes 7). They have also won 17 National Championships (Heos 7). They have also had the best recruiting, for example they have drafted legends like Ozzie Newsome and Joe Namath (Heos 25).
“I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.” A statement George Petrie could not have worded better. This is a line from the Auburn Creed that lived not only in 1945, when it was written, but it lives even more strongly with every generation to come. As a future student of Auburn, I see the importance of the Auburn Creed and can relate this first line very closely to my life now, and forevermore. Since I was little, I have been trying out anything and everything that would make myself a better person. As Petrie states, this is a very “practical world”. This, to me, means that the world is a real place, not a fairytale or a utopian community where a person can achieve
Overall, Texas A&M offers a great opportunity for me. Trying to get into this university alone will give me the opportunity to get better and try my hardest. I also love the fact that this school has a 20:1 student faculty ratio. I have always went to a small student faculty ratio school and I want to continue it. Last but not least, the computer science program is perfect for me. I can pursue my dream to have a job that is related with computer
"One must return to the past in order to move forward", is an old African proverb that has been used to explain the purpose of studying history. This African proverb not only refers to the study of American history, but also the study of one's family history. Another saying that has been used to refer to the study of history is, "You must learn your history, or you are bound to repeat it." These principles can apply to education as well. The purpose of attending college is to receive a formal education. The proper approach to begin college level studies is to learn your school's history. Enlightenment of the difficulties and barriers during the early stages of a school's development; in
During the early 20th century college football played a bad role and influence on American culture by diminishing a good college education. I oppose the role that college football had on American culture because it took away from the main purpose of going to college, which was getting a good education for most Americans. Since the US was involved in World War 1, many veterans came back to the US with no jobs. College coaches were exploiting veterans by concentrating on making their team better rather than wanting them to focus on an education, so that they could get a good job in the future.
My only visit to Alabama was to see my uncle’s Renal Hypertension Clinic in Dothan. While I did not get to spend much time, I could see that Dothan offered affordable housing and mild winter weather which was a pleasant change from the harsh winters of Colorado. What I saw in Dothan and hope to see in other parts of Alabama should I get accepted into UAB School of Medicine is the strong work ethic, trained workforce, and diversified
