The Wellness Fair: Reading Response I have decided to write about the wellness fair held on September 28 as opposed to the chapters of Just How Stupid Are We that were forced upon us. Why did I make this decision, you ask? That is easy. Just How Stupid Are We, is boring and the author is kind of rude. Any opportunity to spend less time thinking about this awful piece of literate is a blessing. Today I am taking full advantage of that blessing. I went to the wellness fair during the break I had before going to my math class. My break lasts one hour so that is how long I spent at the wellness fair. My boyfriend was also free during this hour so he was dragged along (because that is how love works) with his bored friend who had nothing better
Quality of life is how satisfied we are with our lives and whether there are parts of our health that affect this or inhibit this. For example if there was a lack of money in a family due to little financial support then their quality of life would not be good. This is because they would not be able to afford the necessities of life and other recreational activities.
Meningococcal disease is a disease that can be found worldwide. Meningococcal disease refers to any disease or illness that is caused by the type of bacteria called Neisseria meningitides, also called meningococcus (Meningococcal disease, 2015). The first documented outbreak was over two hundred years ago in Geneva in 1805 which circulated rapidly and killed thirty three people. The first case ever recorded in America was in 1806 in Medford, Massachusetts (Fredericks, n.d.). A European physician, Professor A Weichselbaum, discovered the cause of the mysterious cerebro-spinal meningitis illness in 1887 and Penicillin was the first antibiotic used to fight the disease. In 1978 the first
Healthy People 2020 discusses a number of special population’s that have barriers to care including; race, age sex, sexual identity, age, disability, socioeconomic, and location; this post will discuss race (ethnic) group. Light Health Wellness Comprehensive Services Inc established in 1988 by founder Debbie Rock. This young lady in 1988 seen that individuals with HIV/ AIDS, substance abuse, mental illness, low income and other long term health challenges needing assistance in getting information, guidance and treatment services. A group of people that may have been neglected or ignored by other social services and the community due to the stigma that came along with these conditions and challenges. Many people living with HIV/AIDS were shunned by family members. In the 1980s most people thought that HIV/AIDS was a gay community problem. Many gay men suffered from HIV related stigma and prejudice. Ms. Rock not only wanted to serve this population of people but she wanted to help educate families and those affected by these individuals. This gave her a great opportunity to make use of her human service skills. She wanted to make an impact on the individuals and also the public around it. This would open up many doors and also teach people within the community who probably would ostracized these individuals how to effectively deal with them and how to help them make it through everyday challenges.

Do you consider yourself to be healthy? Well the definition of health is a combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well being, not merely the absence of diseases. The health triangle consists of three sides; social health, physical health, and mental health. It is very important to have the sides on you health triangle equal. Without all of the sides being equal it will not only affect that one but will throw off the other two as well. To have a healthy health triangle all sides must be the same. This is important because focusing one side of the triangle way more that the other causes you to be unhealthy and changes balance of the other sides. The people you talk too, daily activities and emotions all
The function of a health promotion brochure is to present information to the community on different topics with the intention of improving the health and well-being of individuals through the implementation of health education. In order for a brochure to be effective, the message must be clear, precise, and totally understood by the individual. Living a healthy lifestyle is a goal many individuals have and that could either be eating vigorous nutritious meals or being active outside in the world, going to the gym for instance. The condition of being physically fit and healthy is what fitness is. Not many people realize the importance of it until they can’t fit in their own jeans. Many individuals argue that there isn’t enough time for the gym or that there is no point in going because it can cause injury, but in reality, it’s all worth it after you realize the outcomes of working out and eating healthy. There is always time to make your life fit and healthier. In order to join this discourse community, a person must learn the typical ways people in that community interact and argue. I will demonstrate that I have entered this discourse community of fitness by obtaining necessary knowledge, establishing strong credibility, and learning to influence other members of the community to strive for more.
Often in practice, we as nurses deal with a variety of diseases and treatments and often have to react to the illness that the patient presents with upon our interaction. While this is an essential piece of our practice, we also have a duty to our patients to be proactive in preventing specific health-related consequences based on their risk factors and to promote their health and well being. Health promotion as it relates to nursing is about us empowering our patients to increase their control over their lives and well beings and includes: focusing on their health not just illness, empowering our patients, recognizing that health involves many dimensions and is also effected by factors outside of their control (Whitehead et al. 2008)..
