Not many 10 year olds are introduced to slam poetry. Fortunately for me , I wasn't one of those 10 year olds who lacked that experience. After performing at a show on South Street, my cousin suggested that I perform at a slam in West Philly that was strictly for the youth. It was called Philly Youth Night. The only place in the city where Philadelphia youth can share their voices in the city. I was more than excited to showcase my talents in front of other people. On the way to the slam , which was at The Rotunda in West Philly, I exuded eagerness the whole way there. The thought of me slamming in front of other poets and excited a crowd left me in awe.My cousin and his friends are trying to easily put down my aspirations of participating in a slam tonight. Telling me slams takes a lot of preparation that I didn't put in. I retorted with me saying I was more than talented enough to hang with the best poets in the city. I only heard snickers at the idea of me being able to pull that considering my age. About a rough 15 minutes later, we finally arrive at The Rotunda. The building towered over the group of people hanging out in front of it. As soon I walk in , I immediately feel …show more content…
That was beyond easier said than done, because you had to be at least 13 to slam. Meanwhile my 10 year old body refused to turned away to just a mere open mic performance. I want to scale my talents against other people despite age across the city. I was told to find Greg Corbin to find a way to slam. Greg is the founder of PYPM the organization that runs this event. He told me that I should probably sit out this slam and believe that I wasn't ready like everyone else. Like everyone else, I retorted but the difference this time I responded with a poem. Greg was impressed , he said I was good, but questioned if I was truly ready. I spoke with so much conviction it eventually had him put on the list to
Aimee Klein, Ms. Emfield, World Literature, 4 March 2024. Comparison Essay: The similarities and differences of text. In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the antagonist of the story, General Zaroff, could have easily killed the protagonist, Rainsford, at any moment in the text. They have gone face to face with each other many times, while Rainsford was very much vulnerable.
The moment I walked through the doors, it felt like a big step forward for the Village. I encourage you to see the building for yourself on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Teenagers often find themselves going through the motions of doing what they are told when they are told to do it. In conforming to societies norms teenagers begin to feel as if they blend in and nothing is really special about them. John Updike was able to write a coming of age story in which his main character Sammy gets shoved into adulthood rather quickly over spontaneous decision. Through Sammy’s thoughts, intense observations, and his actions we are able to see his deep depravity and his longing to stand out from the crowd.
As I exited the metro bus and stepped into the cold, wet, and way-too-early Saturday morning air, my mind pounded with the self-scolding, “Why am I awake. Why am I awake?”. The second I looked up at the grey-blue sky, however, all dread evaporated. Instead, the gorgeous sight ahead filled me with an incredulous awe. The Washington National Cathedral stood towering in cream-colored splendor, its richly detailed Gothic architecture almost too picturesque to fathom. Intricate spires stood proudly against the low-hanging clouds, as if taunting them to rain. Stunned, I began to follow my friends along a blue stone path surrounded by vivid greenery. As I walked, the chill air invigorated my lungs with each breath, filling me with a sort of peaceful energy. The path led to a smaller, yet still grandiose building which we entered through two large glass doors.
A church had agreed to lets us live in their church for three days. The church was beautiful. It was a large, looming, castle like, church that on it’s own would have seemed huge. But it wasn’t on it’s own. It was right in the middle of the city, right next to a bunch of skyscrapers, which is a shame because it muffles the awesomeness of the church. The church looks old from the exterior but the inside proves just how new it is. It has three stories, and a basement. It has mounted tvs everywhere, and two full elevators. It was a pretty cool place, but it didn't have those windows I loved so

A hot and blistering day, no clouds insight as the sun beams my face. So excruciating, my face smells like burnt trash. As I am waiting for the bus to pass by, there are several children playing on the swings across the street. The bus arrives and off I go heading to a town known for "Hope". As I arrive to the town of Plateros. I marched like wild fire to the temple. The journey, not an easy journey because I had to push and shove people out of the way just to get to the temple. It seems if I was back in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Finally, as I stand at the front gates which happens to be massive? So massive they appeared to be touching the sky. I strolled through the gate and notice all the stairs just to get to the top. I remember the time of the Aztec 's pyramids where they would do human sacrifices for their Gods. As I make my way up the stairs like a captive. Once at the top of the stairs I stood this beautiful temple and what caught my eye was the outer structure.
me at any moment. I stared at the Tower of Terror 's entrance. Then I started my way in. My visit to the
In reviewing your suggested app, “Security Alert,” I felt your proposal was worth considering. With forty-percent of surveyed Americans feeling unsafe walking at night, this app could aid in reducing the anxieties associated with this fear as you had pointed out in your proposition (Sadd, 2011). Furthermore, with three-fourths of surveyed parents stating that child abduction was a fear that they held and one-third of these parents admitting it was a worry that affected them frequently, this app could even further reduce anxieties (Bilich, n.d.). Consequently, decreasing the apprehension that one might feel. Therefore, this shrinking of one’s level of stress, could aid in the development of better physical and emotional health, therefore lessening the risk of developing other stress-related disorders (Nevid, 2015, p. 357). Moreover, “Security Alert” could prove to be a valuable parenting support, should an actual abduction occur, as the “Red” option would allow for faster response time as you had also pointed out. Rapid response is critical in the recovery of an abducted child, as seventy-four percent of slayings occur within the first three hours after abduction (Bilich, n.d.).
Youth gangs in North American society are nothing new. When we turn on the news we often hear stories of misguided youth contributing to yet another gang related crime. Even though it is known that youth crimes are overrepresented in the media today, the subject of youth gang activity is quite a predicament to our society. Over the last few years, there has been a moral panic created by constant exposure to the media which portrays a great amount of youth crimes and violence. In Canada there are large urban cities with high proportions of young people, many of which live in poverty, that now have the issue of dealing with youth gangs and youth crimes. Toronto, British Columbia, and Ottawa are examples of Canadian cities that have youth
The sky matched the mood of the scene as we walked up to the 9/11 memorial. The first sight that is visible in the area as we approach the exhibit is a small, antique church. In a way, this church symbolizes God’s presence in the crowd of people taking in the scenery. This moment in time, my view of life was changed as I realized the phenomenal event that we recognize with a moment of silence every year is so much bigger than I thought. It’s not until a person explores the 9/11 memorial that they fully understand the sorrow that comes with the memory of our nation’s tragedy.
I see the theme happiness in "Boys Life", because he is happy that it is the last day of school. Text evidence that supports this answer is, "But I did know that summer's days were long and lazy, and when the sun finally gave up its hold on the sky the cicadas sang and the lightning bugs whirled their dance and there was no homework to be done and oh, it was a wonderful time" This means that the boy in boys life loves summer.
When I stand on the edge of the mountain the chapel rests on, I can look out over the whole valley below. The swimming pool, the different sections
Sifting through records, tapes, and CD’s 12 years ago my lovely wife asked me “why keep this stuff you never do anything with it!” DJ Switch was born! After answering and add to be a DJ apprentice I jumped into action! This honed my skills as a party energizer behind scene controlling the music that controlled the event. I soon moved into the bars and clubs earning a name for my self in the New Jersey dance scene. This raised the bar even higher, learning to keep the dance floor packed! There however was some things missing when in the clubs, it was the interaction! There was nothing like being the mobile DJ, down on the same level with the crowd helping make memories for someone’s special night! As active duty military we ended up making
Aforementioned, it’s unclear what cultural or identified behavioral influences contributed to the Yahoo malvertising incident as the perpetrators weren’t publically identified. Culturally, crime rates are closely linked to the lack of financial opportunities. (Kshetri, 2010). In general, there are psychological and sociological drivers of cybercrime. Malvertising is a prevalent anonymous threat and to understand a person’s intention and motivation one must first analyze their psychological background and social environment. The attackers, also known as unethical or black hat hackers, are thrill seekers who break into systems to satisfy their inquisitiveness, they’re intrigued by the challenge of knowing they “can” infiltrate a system thereupon emerging their technical skills. (Fötinger & Ziegler, 2004). Sometimes, when they meet their challenge it intensifies into addiction where other factors come into play such as financial gain.
