In the State of North Carolina(NC) to be able to obtain a license to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner the applicant will first will have to hold an active valid Registered Nurse license number from NC or from another compact state (NC Board of Nursing, 2015). The next major step is to complete an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) program. Until recently South University was not an accredited school in North Carolina for Nurse Practitioner not only a few months ago the accreditation was obtained. After satisfactory completion of the program the prospective NP will have to apply to the AANC or ACNP for examination to obtain a certification (NC Board of Nursing, 2015). Once the NP passes the board she will have national certification to practice in any state where the Registered Nurse license is active, and she will have to follow the requirement for that state. The board will mail a registration card that will allow the nurse to use the title of NP, but it does not grant the authority to practice. The NP will have to apply for certification to practice (NC Board of Nursing, 2015) …show more content…
Prior to practicing, the NP will be required to have a supervising physician and both will have a collaborative practice agreement. The supervising physician will assure both boards that the nurse practitioner is qualified to perform the medical acts described in their collaborative practice agreement. (NC Board of Nursing, 2015) The NP will obtain an assigned identification number that will be shown on the written prescription. The supervising physician will provide the NP written instructions concerning indications and contraindications when prescribing drugs, medication, and treatment. There will be sporadic physical reviews of the drugs or treatment prescribed by the NP. These affiliations with NPs are regulated by the Joint Subcommittee of the Medical Board and Board of
EHRs reduce your paperwork – It reduces the paperwork I have to fill in each time I go into the doctors office. If I am referred to a specialists or another area within the network they already have all of my complete information.
You asked the following question: “I have a situation where the batt insulation has a foil backing (Johns Manville FSK-25) that is attached to the trusses. Below the insulation is a concealed space where the wood stud walls go up to bottom of the wood trusses and sheet rock or gypsum board goes 6 in. above the suspended ceiling. Is sprinkler protection required in the concealed space below the insulation?” In response to your question we have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition as the applicable standard. Our informal interpretation is that sprinklers are not required within the concealed space.
Nightingale Community Hospital identified a recent sentinel event involving the ambulatory surgical center. A sentinel event is defined as an unexpected occurrence involving death or serious physical or psychological injury, or the risk thereof (http://www.jointcommission.org/sentinel_event). A three year old female presented to the hospital on September 14th for a planned outpatient procedure. The child was accompanied by her mother. The mother registered the patient with the registrar prior to the procedure. The patient and her mother went to the pre-operative area to complete the informed consent and the necessary physical assessment. The pre-operative nurse obtained the necessary contact
This report demonstrates the current financial situation for the Stratton Township Park and makes recommendations for the annual program budget for the next fiscal year. We first show the current annual budget program, indicating line-item details for each function by account and summarizing the park budget as a whole. Second, we find the break-even points for the golf course green fee and the pool admission to determine what the park would have to charge in order to cover expenses of the these operations. Next, we calculate the marginal revenues and expenses to determine the impact of shutting down certain programs in the park. Lastly, this report prepares the revised budget for the upcoming fiscal year based on our recommendations.
The disease process I will be reviewing is traumatic brain injuries. A traumatic brain injury occurs when sudden trauma occurs to an individual’s brain. Traumatic brain injuries are considered closed or penetrating. Traumatic brain injuries are categorized as mild, moderate or severe based on the amount of damage that occurs to the brain. Health rule challenges continue, even as October 1, 2015 looms. Individual insurance benefits fluctuate as employers scramble to control costs, making it increasingly difficult for hospitals and physicians to stay on top of diverse policy provisions and exclusions. Myriad new regulations and mandates for providers and employers also means more responsibility for paying for health care services falls into the hands of patients. Large medical groups and care facilities rely on next generation revenue cycle management (RCM) solutions and medical billing software to automate their workflow and improve reimbursement rates. However, smaller practices and ancillary service providers may still be in the dark about emerging technology and tools to help them control costs without compromising care.
The procedures to establish creditability and acknowledgement to practice autonomously as a NP initially include having a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) followed by a master’s degree nursing education, accreditation, licensure, credentialing, and certification (American Nursing Association, 2015). The Department of Consumers Affairs (2015) specified that “each individual must first have a California registered nurse license before obtaining the certificate and the application process includes certification by a national organization/association whose standards are equivalent to those set forth in the California Code of Regulations Section 1484” (p.1).
Preparing for The Joint Commission, Nightingale Community Hospital reviews areas of compliance and non-compliance. A periodic performance review, which is a self-evaluation, is utilized by Nightingale Community Hospital, to prepare for The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission has eighteen accreditation requirements. (Commission, 2013) The periodic performance review found the hospital to be compliant and non- compliant in the following areas:
Nurse practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses who have received special courses and training. They usually work closely with doctors and can perform many high-level primary care tasks. They often specialize in specific types of practice such as pediatrics, psychiatry, or obstetrics. Some establish private practices; however, most work in doctors' offices, hospitals, or neighborhood health centers. Their duties often include taking detailed medical histories and performing complete physical exams, providing diagnoses and recommending treatment plans, treating common medical conditions, illnesses, and injuries, prescribing limited medications, and counseling patients and families. They also care
a.The most challenging aspect of working in protective services for me will be separating abuse from mistakes or lack of knowledge. For example, a parent may forget to check their child’s diaper for a few hours, leading to a severe diaper rash. This may be very painful for the child, but would not technically be abuse so long as it is not repeated regularly. The same type of mistakes can and will be made when it comes to caring for the elderly and those with disabilities. Nobody that should be in charge of caring for another adult would ever do something to harm them intentionally, but we are all human and make honest mistakes. The difficult part will be determining if the elderly or disabled adult would be better suited in a different living
According to the Pearson Report, there is a total of 147,295 Nurse Practitioners throughout the United States (Pearson, 2009). However, for NPs in some states the battle continues over some forms of prescriptive authority or physician involvement in NP prescribing, such as the state of Pennsylvania. State regulatory approaches to NP prescribing range from no authorization for prescribing (in Georgia, 2006 legislation passed which recognized NPs as prescribers, but the rules have not been approved at the time of this writing) to unencumbered prescriptive authority (Arizona, DC, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming) (Lugo, O’Grady, Hodnicki & Hanson, 2007).
A. Nurse sensitive indicators are factors that are directly impacted by nursing. There indicators fall into three categories; structure, process and outcomes of nursing care. The structure indicators are the organizational piece of nursing care. These relates to the amount of staff on duty at a given time, how many RN's are on duty and experience level of the staff. For example, evidence indicates institutions with a higher number of RN’s possessing a Bachelor Degree in nursing result in improved patient outcomes. The process indicators measure nursing care such as patient assessment, patient care and intervention. These are the organizational policies and procedures of nursing. The patient outcomes are indicators directly related to
Cognitive Development refers to the construction of the thought process that includes problem solving, remembering and the ability to make decisions, from childhood up to the adulthood stage. Cognitive/Intellectual Development is the ability to learn, reason, and analyze the fact that a process begins from infancy and progresses as the individual (Educational Psychology). Cognitive Development contains events that are logical, like thinking and remembering. Some factors remain the same throughout many of the theories on cognitive development. All theorists agree that people go through specific steps and/or
First, the state licensure regulates NP practice and it has been a big issue since NPs are not able to practice to the fullest extent despite of their education and training. NPs practice is regulated by state licensure and only about one-third of the nation has adopted full practice authority licensure and practice laws for NPs (Hain & Fleck, 2014). The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) reports that, under a full practice authority model, NPs are still required to meet
All accredited educational programs include didactic learning that includes advanced assessment, pharmacology and pathophysiology and clinical experience gained through rotations and preceptorship. APN’s complete master’s degrees or post master’s programs in preparation for certification. Certification is granted by The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Certifications are earned in adult and family, acute care, pediatrics, psychiatric, gerontology and women’s healthy specialties. APN’s are licensed by individual state boards of nursing and they are certified in advanced specialty areas. APN’s have prescriptive authority in all 50 states and can practice without direct physician supervision in several states. They work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, schools, colleges and urgent care facilities. APN’s must recertify every five years with 1000 hours of clinical practice and 75 continuing education hours in the area of
