A. Summary of Situation
The situation that will be evaluated in this analysis will be; is there a region of the United States in which childhood obesity tends to be more prominent? This will be done to show areas in which the Government, insurance companies and healthcare institutions should focus campaigns for healthy living to reduce future healthcare cost. The data that will be utilized to answer this business question will be the percent of children ages ten to seventeen that are overweight or obese in each of the fifty states. The states will then be categorized into their respective regions of East, South, Midwest, and West. When the states are listed in way of highest percentage to lowest, at first glance can be seen that there are many of the Southern States in the top ten, to include Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina being the top three, respectively. Outside of this it is difficult to locate another trend just by looking at a chart from lowest to highest percent, which is why a Cluster Analysis will be conducted to further investigate any trends, which will be discussed later in the report. Another piece of important information to take from the chart is that the highest percentage is 39.8 percent (Louisiana) and the lowest being 22.1percent (Utah), which is a substantial difference that will hopefully be sorted out through the Cluster analysis.
