Our "big idea," for chapter ten lesson two says, "Each nutrient in your diet plays a unique and essential role in keeping you healthy." There are six nutrients that provide your body what it needs. One of the nutrients are carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provides your body with energy. It 's definition says; are starches and sugars found in foods, which provide your body 's main source of energy. Carbohydrates divide into three different types, simple, complex, and fiber. Simple carbohydrates are sugars, like fructose and lactose. You can find them in obviously fruits and milk, but they are also added to many proceeded foods. Complex carbohydrates, or starches are long chains of sugars linked together. You can find these in grains, grain products, and root vegetables. Finally, fiber is a tough complex carbohydrate that the body cannot digest. It helps move waste through your body. Food with a lot of fiber in them, can help you feel full, may reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Good sources of fiber are fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and products made from whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes (foods where seeds are grown, and eaten). The second nutrient are proteins. It 's definition is; nutrients the body uses to build and maintain its cells and tissues. Made up of chemicals called amino acids.
