What are Homo sapiens? Homo sapiens are the only existing human species left on earth evolving since about 160,000 year ago. Homo sapiens is the complete modern humans Homo is the human genus. Which also includes Homo erectus and Neanderthals plus many other extinct species of hominid family. According to “most Paleoanthropologists agree that Homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens.” (171). The Paleolithic period is a big part of human evolution, it is broken up into three different measures lower, middle, and upper.
The lower period went back about 100,000 to 500,000 years ago. Homo erectus were the first species that made stone tools by hand for survival purposes. Paleolithic period (2015) “Stone tools of this period are of the core type, made by chipping the stone to form a cutting edge, or of the flake type, fashioned from fragments struck off a stone. Hand axes were the typical tool of these early hunters and food-gatherers.” Without these tools living for Homo erectus would have been almost impossible, the species could have gone extinct earlier. Hunting was a big part of life for these species.
Next is the middle Paleolithic period which includes the Mousterian culture, this cultural is linked with the Neanderthal species which is also an early form of humans. Neanderthals lived between 100,000 and 40,000 years ago evidence found in caves were use of fire! Can you believe that Homo Neanderthals were the first species to identify fire and use it to survive?
