Martin Van Buren's life was filled with success. He is native to New York, and he is part of the Democratic party. Unlike the rest of the Presidents Van Buren's first language was Dutch, not English. In 1812, when Van Buren wasn't yet 30, he was elected to the New York State Senate. In 1816, he was appointed state attorney general he served until 1819. During the time he was alive, Van Buren made many accomplishments. The early years of Martin Van Buren were ordinary. He was born on December 5, 1782, in Kinderhook New York. His father was Abraham Van Buren, and his mother was Maria Hoes Van Buren, both of his parents were Dutch immigrants. His Religion was Dutch Reformed Church. He completed his formal schooling at the Kinderhook Academy before his fourteenth birthday. At the age of thirteen, he took a job in a local law firm. At the age of 18, he acted as a campaign manager for his neighbor, John Van Ness, who was running for a seat in Congress. When John Van Ness won the election, he rewarded Van Buren with a job offer in a law office in New York. He took the job offer and spent three years in New York, before returning to Kinderhook in 1803 to practice law and politics. Van Buren didn't serve in the military. In 1807, he married Hannah Hoes, a distant cousin, and four sons were born to them. In 1808, Van Buren was appointed to his first political office.
