The US government promises to make major decisions for our country with our opinions and needs in mind, although that is a peevish lie. I do not believe that the government truly considers American citizens' thoughts and worries for the country. We are ruled by an oligarchy of men and women who lie to their citizens without any tribulation for their actions. Citizens do not impact the government’s choices, because of our lower social standard. Voting for presidency appears to be the solo action American citizens truly have in impacting the government, yet even the presidents we choose become prevaricators. The government's raucous actions discourages abundant amounts of citizens involvement in voting for presidency. The US government is
The American government makes many decisions, which are influenced by many things. Occasionally these policies work out, but some of these policies that do not have the attended effect on the country. The Americans that have get the bad side of these policies have to fight to be heard and have their daily lives drastically altered. A great example of the downside of interests creating policies is the Flint Michigan water crisis. This incident occurred because interests were held above the the ideas and institutions of the public.
“The Duties of American Citizenship” was a speech given by Theodore Roosevelt eighteen years prior to his presidency. This speech outlines how one can become a “good American citizen.” In order to persuade his audience to become more involved in the civic duties of a citizen, Roosevelt incorporates many rhetorical devices including repetition and anecdotes.
There are several people amongst the cataclysm we call the United States of America, and there have been many in the past that have been very influential in our government and how it should be ran, such as our founding fathers. One man, Alexander Hamilton was a very influential man in the beginnings of our nation and its principles. One of his quotes, "Why has government been instituted at all? Because the passions of man will not conform to the dictates of reason and justice without constraint." This quote really explains how I feel the government is participating in the role of our nation. The government is simple there to guide and protect, as well as maintain order, along with being the strong hold of the nation, almost like the big
A Constitutional Democracy is very important for U.S. citizens. Living in a country that is run by a democracy gives everyone a voice. It allows you to speak out about problems you see in your town, state, or in the nation. It gives everyone the ability to come together as one, and make changes to better suit your lives and the country. E Pluribus Unum (One out of many) is the motto of America. This means even though there are a lot of people in the world, everyone has a voice and your voice can make changes.
What does it mean to be an American? Being an American citizen comes with a lot of responsibilities and perks, this is the main reason why people have been immigrating to the United States. The United States is a very special country because citizens have freedom unlike in other countries where you are told what to do and if you don't follow or you speak out you are punished, sometimes even in cruel ways such as execution. Also there is no slavery legally allowed and the United States law enforcement and Judicial system is not as corrupt as some other countries such as Brazil or Mexico.
America is a nation founded on freedom, and at times that freedom will get tested, however the people of this great country always make tough decisions that will influence and shape the future of our society. That is why the U.S. Constitution was put in place it is a stable of change, because the founders knew nothing in the world is completely perfect, yet with time things will change and the people must adapt to the times. The preamble introduces the constitution, and states that the government comes from the people. Its general purposes are in order to form a more perfect union we have to “Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” Its purpose is to make a good government and good laws, have peace in our homes, national security, healthy communities, and freedom to ourselves, families and friends. The people are the ones who must choose the elected officials and leaders who enforce this constitution, they have all the power in the world, because the Constitution allows them to pursue their happiness. As Benjamin Franklin once said “The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.” The Constitution does not give you rights, because the founders considered your rights to be "God-given" or "natural rights" you are born with all your rights. What the Constitution does, however, is protect your
I feel that one of the most important responsibilities we have, as American citizens, to America is the obligation to look out for future generations of Americans. We always hear that young people are the future so we must do everything in our power to show them how to be proud Americans and take care of the land we live on. A couple of ways that we can help protect our land are participating in recycling programs and supporting organizations and industries that are “green”. In addition to taking care of the land, it is also important that we take care of and provide support for those in need in our country. It is our responsibility as Americans to aid and encourage our veterans. We must also look out for those who are financially less fortunate
“the government may not jail, fine, or impose civil liability on people or organizations based on what they say or write, except in exceptional circumstances,” (Stone, Geoffrey). This shows that the government knows the population will try and obstruct, or hinder their progress. That if the citizens are allowed to change everything, that everything would constantly be delayed. In the United States, this is not the case. Over many years, the government has implemented ways that require a majority to get things changed. That way small groups of people can voice their opinions without bringing the government to a halt with changes. If anything, these changes help the government, and show officials were the problems are. They allow the government to see and understand people’s frustrations and work to fix them. In that way, the American government has remained strong, but yet flexible and susceptible to change at the same time.
The United States is a representative democracy. This means that the establishment that governs the people is voted for to represent the beliefs of those people. The role of Americans when they vote is that they are making their voice and opinions known so that the government best represents the citizens as a whole. It is important for Today’s elections that the people who are voting have a well-developed social capital and are well educated. Having a well-developed social capital can allow people to form opinions and viewpoints for themselves outside of what is immediately around them.
A major topic that is discussed in the news nowadays is nuclear threats that are made against us from other countries. A reform measure today involves the reduction of the separation of powers, the citizens today desire that the president when a threat or a disaster occurs, then the president is able to make quick and sufficient choices without being stopped or slowed by the other parts in government. Another reform present today is allowing for the government system to become less Democratic. What this means is that a lot of citizens believe that the government solve a bunch of the people’s problems that happen to them every day, the issues that the citizens in the United States face right now are believed to be solved by the government. Which in realty the people are not able to see what will eventually affect them in the future. The president candidates that are running gain the belief of the people
The United States is built upon a certain set of ideals and values , written seemingly clearly within the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Yet, despite this, there are various disagreements in how political promises to the people of the country play out. The unifying factor of what I believe American politics is, is the development to live up to these ideals and values. It is a nation built on the stifling of true, direct, democracy of the masses, built upon favoring wealth and an elitist system, but despite all this, it takes its Creed very seriously. Though interpretations may differ on how this is accomplished, the basic politics surrounding the United States, combined with a shared national identity and history, demands an attempt, or at least a show of fairness, equality, responsibility, and representation. It may never succeed in living up to the ideals of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” but that does not stop the demand of both policymakers and citizens to uphold and defend these rights.
Responsibility, the definition of responsibility is the state of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one’s power, control, or management. We all have a individual responsibility to the country that we live in. From the day that we were born to the day we die, as American citizens we owe it to the people who fought and gave their lives for this country to fulfill our responsibility to this great country of ours. From the birthday of our country on July 4, 1776 to present day there have been men and women of all races, backgrounds and ethnicity whom have worked to make this country great. We can fulfill this obligation through service to our communities, setting high personal goals
Become a citizen of one of the best nations in the world is a privilege that not many people have. I’m talking about the United States of America. If you are an U.S natural born citizen you have rights and responsibilities that protect you based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution. People who are in the position to become U.S. citizens gain the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities of citizenship as natural born American with the only restriction that they can’t be eligible for President of the United States.
We live in this country for the land, and the for the free as Americans we rely on many attributes in this world in order for us to live our lives. Our government has supplied us with many great things for us to be proud of. Our government is “the institutions and processes though which public policies are made for society.” (Edwards, Wattenberg, and Lineberry, p. 7). With all these institutions which includes the President, Congress, the courts and all the federal administrative agencies. These are the institutions that make up public policies for us, and to shape the way we live as Americans. The way this system has been operating through all the years has been
As stated previously, there is quite a low number of U.S. voters showing up to the polls, which damages the efficiency of the American democracy. United States was ranked 31st out 35 countries for number of voter turnout this last August. The last several decades of data shows only 53 percent of eligible voters showing up for U.S. presidential elections, compared to Belgium’s 87 percent or Turkey’s 84 percent voter turnout. The problem with small voter turnout is summed up by this quote “our legislature is a reflection of our voters, but our voters are not a reflection of our citizens.”
