In the later half of the 18th century as the British rule was under pressure people also started to realise the slaves demand for freedom. The Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson (who owned over 200 slaves) this document became the declaration for human rights and personal freedom. This was the beginning of many petitions to end slavery. This revolution also then encouraged Blacks to participate in the American revolutionary war. Until 1775 when George Washington no longer allowed the blacks to serve in the war.
