What Are The Pros And Cons Of Rotarian's Four Way Test

In the twenty-�rst century, our society is heavily consumed with social media. Everything that is thought, seen, or done is published in an instant for the whole world to see. Although this can lead to many pros, such as new discoveries, raising awareness, and appreciating talents, it can also lead to many awful cons. Social media is one of most important places where the Rotarian’s “Four-Way Test” is useful. This test is essential for me when I decide what to post, share, and like. The �rst part of the “Four-Way Test” states, “Is it TRUTH?” When publishing online, I always make sure what I am saying is truthful. Along with the �rst pillar of the test, if something is not true about someone then it is not fair to publish. Also, when I post a picture on Instagram, I make sure the person pictured agrees to the posting beforehand. I never want to offend anyone, so it is always safe to check with the other person. Additionally, the step states, “Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?” The essence of life is built on good will and great friendships because without them, there certainly is not anything to live for. I ensure that all my postings elucidate my wholeness as a person and it stays true to my friends. All my posts are things I want my friends and new friends to see, which help highlight my character. I would never want to share or associate myself with something that is malevolent or harmful. Lastly, the fourth check of the “Four-Way Test” is “Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?” This step is essential when deciding what to say. It is unnecessary to say something that is not going to help others out. This step truly sums up all the others because anything that is
