Thomas Jefferson was the third U.S. president and the author of the Declaration of Independence when he was an adult. He was born on April 13, 1743 in Shadwell, Goochland County, Virginia with his parents and nine siblings, he was the third of the children. As he got older, he used to serve in a Virginia legislature and the Continental Congress. He soon served as a U.S. minister for France and was vice president under John Adams. Later on, he was finally elected president in 1800 and stayed in office from 1801 to 1809. One of Thomas Jefferson’s greatest and most well known achievements of his first administration was when he purchased the Louisiana Territory from France for fifteen million dollars in 1803.
