What are the advantages and disadvantages for individuals and society of the reliance on communicating via computers? (Discussion Essay)
Introduction:
In today’s world, communication is one of the key elements that people across the world can connect with one another. The rise of the use of computer has been due to technological advancements such as the creation of email and websites such as Facebook and Twitter. A touch of the mouse can instantly connect one person from one side of the world to another person on the other side of the world in a matter of seconds. However, this fast form of communication eliminates certain security measures such as knowing who the other person is on the other side of the screen. This essay will

Everyone has the freedom to use the computer for their own purpose which is also an advantage.
In our present life everything is connected with computer technology. We use computers at home, work and we are often assisted by them in shops, banks, offices and many other places. People often do not see any disadvantages of having computers; I will try to show you good and bad sides of using them. In the first place, a computer is a really comfortable, convenient and helpful thing; it often makes lots of work for us which normally consumes plenty of time. Another useful thing is that computers now are often small and we can take them wherever we want. We can use them f. ex. in planes, restaurants or in same waiting rooms. An additional advantage of using the computer is that we can develop our computer skills and we can learn in this way. Now, there are many programs for learning, especially languages. On the other hand, computers have disadvantages too; the most important one is about destroying our eyesight. Computers do harm to our eyes, if we use them too much. As a result, we can lose our sight and become blind. Although we can keep in touch with many people by computer it is possible to become a bad thing. People need to see others, we like being in groups and talking face to face. By communicators we cannot feel, touch and see our interlocutor. Summing
There are many advantages to computers as it allows you to connect to the World Wide Web. It has affected everyone in this day and age as it allows you to do so many things such as connects to people around the world. People use computers to perform different tasks quickly and easily. It is very time efficient as you can email someone and they can receive it straight away but with a letter it would not only take couple of days to be received it would also cost. Many use computers to keep records and all the public services use a computer as it is a very important part of society in this era. It comes in handy as you can check on your bank and manage
All advantages have corresponding disadvantages. Sherry Turkle’s essay “Connectivity and its Discontents” address her stance towards technological communication. Throughout her essay, she provides examples that illustrate how the world is consistently depending on technology for communication. Turkle’s opinion towards the issue is that, “she believes we’ll eventually sacrifice communication for mere connection.” Her examples make the reader consider that technological communication leads to human beings losing intensity in communication in both personal and professional situations because of distraction and convenience. The twenty-first century widely introduced a variety technological advancements which made people rely often on the technology. Thinking back to her opinion towards the issue I would agree with the idea that humans are becoming too attached to technology, but I would disagree that technology draws a wedge between people.
Technology allows us to separate ourselves, mentally, from what’s going on around us. In “Is Google Making Us Stupid”, by Nicholas Carr, he notices how the internet allows him to jump around and lose focus. Another effect that technology has on society is that we are losing fundamental social skills. Texting and emailing make it easy to contact someone, but we are losing skills that come with face-to-face communication.
One of these disadvantages is that technology can take over positions that people used to get paid to do. It saves companies payroll, but these people lose their jobs and cannot support themselves or their family. One advantaged mentioned above was the expense of technology can be worth it in the long-run. But for some it can be too costly and they can never be able to use that advantaged of saving money over time. When new advances in technology come out, the older model of an electronic product gets reduced in price. Eventually, these products become affordable to everyone, but the disadvantage is not everyone can have the chance to try these new advances at the same time.
The sheer number of people who use the Internet is astounding. In everyday life the amount of people a person will have a meaningful conversation where voices are shared is pretty low. Also, the voices you will hear can be pretty limited, as person is confined to one area of the world at a time. On the Internet however, a person can hear millions of varied voices. The Internet can give a person exposure to people from all over the world, or people of a minority they may not meet in person. Obviously not all voices on the Internet are necessarily good, but the pros outweigh the cons. People may say certain experiences are lost because of technology, but many of these are not meaningful forms of interaction lost. The Internet has removed the need for a person to go to stores to shop. Some may this is bad, but is shopping really great interaction with another person? Is unnecessary and sometimes awkward small-talk with a cashier really something lives are lesser off without? The Internet removes insignificant interactions and allows to people to focus on the interaction that matters to them. Some people, of course, will completely forgo the opportunity for human interaction and end up spending all of their time on the
There are many species in the world, however, human is the only one who can talk, understand, think and act according to his own wish. This means human is the only species who can communicate with other humans. Thus, communication plays a vital part in human life. In simple terms, communication is effectively interacting with each other. Defining communication, it can be the process by which people exchange information or express their thoughts and feelings (Longman Dictionary, 2011). Some of the earlier methods used for communication have been visual and audio in the form of gestures, sound and pictures/drawings. Technology today has transformed these sounds and gestures to produce speech, videos, films, posters and theatre. The evolution of different means has opened up a vast potential for communication (unesco.org).
As I said in my previous essay, not many people realize it, but the human race desperately depends on technology for existence. Although depending on things such as computers, cellular devices, and search engines comes with very helpful and developmental research, it has also come with many negative effects. Technology has literally affected all aspects of life for every living person. To the point where it has made people lazy, taken their jobs, and has even made people addicted to social networking. Some examples of problems are constant use of social media, texting and driving incidents, cyberbullying, and even cheating on tests or exams. I believe that we’ve become evermore negatively dependent on technology because humans now feel the need to socialize and connect with one another more frequently than they did before the turn of the 21st century.
Since the 20th century, technology has changed the culture, economy, and social norms of this world. It has become the number-one resource of today 's society. The use of technology has transformed the past resources into useful simple tools. In other words, it has enable the teaching and production of new information and materials through the use of devices such as computers, internet, machines, and Wi-Fi. For the most part, technology has made many effects on this world. On one hand, it has helped develop more advanced industrial resources, socialization, and has allowed schools to aid and improved learning performance of students. On the other hand, many uses of technology can produce unwanted behavior problems and drain people 's ability to stay focus and cause damage to people health.
Nowadays, computers are emerging rapidly than never before in human history. Everywhere you go, either stores, malls or even your homes is filled with all kinds of electronics. We have come to a stage whereby everything we do or placed our hands on must be computers. We don’t even need to ask our parents questions anymore, all our answers or solutions including problems are all in the internet. According to Theodore Roszak in “Shakespeare Never Lost a Manuscript to a Computer Crash,” argues that “the computer contributes nothing essential to the life of the mind.” I strongly agree! We are created to use our minds to solve problems and think critically. Although computer usage might be a benefit to the majority of the new generation, the fact is that computers can do harm to the society such as lack of memory and isolation.
For decades, people have lived without a phone, a computer or a tablet in their hands. But, in these days, surviving without any kind of technology connected to the Internet is so difficult to overcome. Moreover, the youngest individuals are learning to live in a world completely dependent on the Internet. Moreover, it you want to learn about how to use computers and the Internet, go to ask your grandchildren to teach you. Anyone cannot imagine how to live without the Internet. Of course, this is categorized as the best development of the history. But, how does it affect the cizicents of the world? Some adults and teachers are worried about the loss of social skills, as the ability to communicate up close and personal with friends and family, as consequence of the Internet.
On a positive outlook, when connected to the Internet, computers allow users to near-instantly communicate with people all over the world and to access a vast amount of information, resources, and entertainment. Since computers and internet is widespread, we can also be connected with people around the world. As for entertainment and information, it is more accessible if using computers since you get data from specific websites which tackles or specializes the area or
