Today's society might assume a hero as the person who saves lives and has super exceptional abilities. When a person faces an act of kindness in person, they might soon realize what a real hero means to them. Rick once aforementioned, "Being a hero does not mean you are invincible. It just means that you are brave enough to stand up and accomplish what's needed."
The truth is that we look up to people who make a difference in our lives while at the same time overcoming personal struggle and hardship to achieve that goal. We admire their bravery and dedication; we aspire to be as courageous and focused as they are to achieve what they set out to do.
A hero to me means a man or woman who takes hardships in his or her life. An example would be
To me a hero is someone who is nice, kind, caring, open minded, confident, not afraid to help others and not a quitter.
A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, and/or noble qualities. A hero doesn’t have to be a fictional character. Heroes can be found in the real world too. CNN Hero of 2014, Chad Pregracke is known as a hero. This is because he is highly self sacrificing when it comes down to keeping the Earth clean. Odysseus, from the epic poem “The Odyssey”, is known as a hero also. The reasoning behind this is because on his way back home to Ithaca, he overcomes many obstacles and shows many traits while doing this. Chad Pregracke and Odysseus both display a number of heroic qualities.
A hero is someone who is admired and valued for their courage, outstanding achievements, and noble qualities. A hero to one person may not be a hero to another. I strongly agree with this definition for a hero to a person is not always a hero to others. In saying this, my hero is Isabelle Bruce Reid because she was the first female to qualify in Australia as a veterinarian. To me, Isabelle Reid was a name in history who changed the world, is valued and is a great role model.
To me a hero is someone who can overcome trials and tribulations. A hero is brave enough to face the world and help others in a time of need. Langston Hughes is a good example of a hero because he helped his community and other young people in the world.
Heroes care not only for themselves, but for others. In the White House Funeral Sermon for Abraham Lincoln, “...not for himself only, not for us only, but for all people in all their coming generations till time shall be no more…” This means that President Lincoln took risks not to ensure his safety but to make sure that he would be known as a doer. Lincoln knew that what he was doing would revolutionize the way not only the way his generation would live but all future ones. This showed that he cared not only for himself but for people he would never get the pleasure of meeting. Back in World War II a true hero was born. One of the bloodiest battles of WWII, Hacksaw Ridge, was lucky to have Desmond Doss as a part of their medical team. He saved 75 people. Most in which others had left behind, for they thought that they weren’t saving. He cared about every single one making it back to base to be helped despite who was after him. Or even in the 9/11 boatlift many heroes stepped up to the plate. Vincent Ardolino, Captain of the Amberjack V,
Heroes have different backgrounds, personalities, and journeys. A hero is someone who is willing to make sacrifices for others, making their lives a little better. Heroes are there for people; it’s what they do. A very big hero in my life is my mother.
If everything was fine and everyone lived happily, we would not need heroes, so for a hero to be we need unfortunate circumstances to give an opportunity for a heroic act. Heroes are people who have helped someone who was helpless to do anything to change the situation they are in. Some heroes have changed the world; as Tollesfson points out that if not for Ghandi India as we know it today would not exist, and if not for Martin Luther King racism and discrimination would have never gotten any better in the American culture (1993). Opportunity is an important factor for a hero to save the day. However in today’s sensationalistic generation, people may create opportunity for themselves to do good deeds or perform heroic acts just for people to perceive them as heroes. Although it might be true that unfortunate circumstances or the need for a hero may deteriorates today’s generation need for a attention and approval from strangers, there is no way to verify people’s motives or question their heroic acts. Heroes should be thanked and appreciated for their action, and shall not be worshiped. People ought to know that doing good and helping one another is the norm and one should not be always expecting to be praised for being kind.
The definition of a hero is someone who risks their lives to save someone who they know or don’t know. And knowing they would die but going anyways.
A hero is someone that will risk his or her life for others. In the movie Stand by me, the boys are heroes because they risked their lives trying to find the missing boy.
I believe that we need a hero to guide us to a life that we will live happy because heros give us the protection and guidance to guide us to that life. Heros are the people we look up to in life because they allow us to live peacefully. Heros can be people who motivate you to become a hero, or even try to surpass them. Since a hero is there for you, and motivation is there too then, you can follow the footsteps of that particular hero and be a hero yourself.
Everyday, society misconceives identities. In the eyes of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “A hero is no braver than any ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.” Heroism, in Emerson’s perspective, is the ability to stand out for longer, and to endure hardships for greater durations. The passengers on United Flight 93, which was hijacked by terrorists as part of the September 11 attacks on the U.S demonstrated bravery like few other civilians can measure up to. Although it is not clear whether passengers on the other hijacked flights fought back persistently, it is known that the passengers on Flight 93 attempted to take control of the plane, and were successful. During the 35 minutes the passengers spent attempting to get into the
Have you ever thought of a hero as someone who flies around with superpowers and saves people from evil? Well guess what? That ain't happening. A real hero doesn’t have these things. Instead, they do good with the abilities they have. One guess about hero’s qualities is they have empathy and make efforts to do the right thing. These character qualities can be seen in the great stories of Eddie Aikau, King Kamehameha and Father Damien.
“The simple acts of heroism are often overlooked- that's very clear to me not only in war but in peace. I’m not debunking all of history: Crossing the Delaware was a magnificent action. But I am saying that I think the meaning of heroism has a lot to do with evolving into a higher human being”(Stone 73). This quote belongs to Oliver Stone who wrote a lot of books and was in a few movies. His mindset about heroism is different now that technology has grown and people look at things from another perspective. He is right when he says that heroes are usually thought of as the higher class of people, but today there is a lot of people who could be heroes just with a simple sign of kindness. Even though heroism is not someone who wears a cape, it is someone who is determined, and who sacrifices themselves for others.
For me a hero is someone who touches our lives in a personal way and does not do it for themselves.
A hero is someone who shows courage mostly because of their actions and is idealized because of their courage. There are many examples of heroes in the everyday world. This can be star baseball player Yasiel Puig who was smuggled into America and first started playing baseball as a job for $17 a month. This can show that heroes can be anyone in this world. One amazing hero statement is when Joseph Campbell said,” A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” So we know that a hero has to be someone that shows courage, but when you think about it a hero is an idle and many idles in this world don’t show courage that much. You can still be a hero if you work hard and even show others to do the same.
