Introduction:
Learning how to cure cancer is one of the most asked questions in the medical field today. While this question hasn’t been answered, medical professionals know how it is started and some ways of preventing certain types of cancer. These tips do not guarantee that an individual won’t get this disease, but they up their chances of avoiding it.
Treatment:
Many studies have been done to find cure for cancer. Doctors have however, found treatment options for cancer that do not always guarantee that the patient will be cured but instead they take away the side effects of cancer. When a patient is first diagnosed, the doctors must run test and find out background information in order for them to be able to give the most effective

Some physical effects of cancer include easy bruising as well as the needle marks that could be left from treatment. (4).
Causes:
Cancer can be caused by mutations in the DNA of the child. Also, the parents could cause it due to smoking or doing drugs during pregnancy as well as the environment that they raise the child in. Since this is about a child, their personal choices do not contribute to cancer as it would adults because adults can make the choice to do things such as smoke. While some of these causes can’t be prevented, the ones that can be are good for one to know so that they can make every possible effort to prevent giving or getting this disease
Cancers effect on families:
The families of these patients as well as the patient themselves experience things that can cause harm to the stress levels of both the child and the parents. The patients and their family experience strain in the relationship that they have with each other and find it hard to cope with this. Some people don’t realize that even if the child does recover from the disease, the life of the child after treatment is never the same. As Flosnik and Griffith2 say in their article, “An evaluation of emotional problems in a young adult cancer survivor should take into account the developmental effects of the original cancer diagnosis on the patient and the patient’s family.”
Even though the emotional factors play
Chemotherapy is the use of certain drugs to treat cancer. Doctors will choose drugs depending on the type of cancer diagnosis. For example, chemotherapy is used to treat breast cancer. (“How is”). There are many side effects of chemotherapy. A few are; anemia, appetite loss, memory loss, bleeding, clotting,
The prime condition of success ,the great secret ,is to concentrate my energy , thought ,and capital exclusively upon business in cancer .Having begun in research ,resolve to fight it out , to lead in it , adopt every improvement ,have the best machinery, and know the most about it .Two passions ,simple but overwhelmingly strong ,has governed my life : the search for knowledge and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.I have sought knowledge . I have wished to understand the causes of cancer . I have wished to know why people die . And I have tried to apprehend the breakthrough in cancer treatment written by Gleevec who discovered the approach was to target the disease at the cellular and subcellular level .A little of this ,but not much , I have achieved.I long to alleviate the pain of cancer . As the mathematician Jules Henri Poincare said, Science is built with facts just as a house is built with bricks .I would take approaches as many scientists do .Scientist start an investigation by finding out what other scientists have learned about a particular problem. After known the facts have been gathered , the scientist come to the part of the investigation that requires considerable imagination . Possible problem are formulated. The scientists plans experiments, performs calculations, and makes observations to test hypotheses. When hypotheses are confirmed ,they are incorporated into theories. If I become a scientist
The lesson a reader can take away is learning how hard people push to find a cure and the developing progress in cancer knowledge. Everyday people like Farber write informational articles and use advance technology to develop a cure. Although cancer is difficult to cure in any case, the easiest to cure is pediatric. The doctors at Harvard use the developing sophisticated medicine for the childhood cancer to help solve mysteries to other cancers. But because each genetic code and layers of tissues that makeup a human is different, it is impossible to have just one medicine that cures all cancer. Doctors push themselves to find
According to the American Cancer Society (2013) stated, “Childhood cancers are often the result of gene changes inside cells that take place very early in life, sometimes even before birth” (American Cancer Society, 2013). “Unlike many cancers in adults, childhood cancers are not strongly linked to lifestyle or environmental risk factors” (American Cancer Society, 2013).
One of the most common illnesses that pharmacies and medical professionals have been trying to find a cure for is cancer. Cancer has many different types and stages, each with separate and devastating effects.
I chose this topic because I have an interest in science and the human body. Also, when I am older I wish to work in scientific research, researching diseases. This essay will give an insight into the different ways that cancer is researched, treated and the ways that the risk of cancer is reduced.
So when it comes to the topic of cancer treatment, I think of it as a way to cure patients. But then why is this “cure” causing such damage to patients brains in the long run. Patients going through cancer, and cancer treatment already go through a tough, difficult time. However, just as they feel like they are free from cancer, this burden of chemo brain comes onto them. I feel like patients cannot control if they are diagnosed with cancer, so bringing a life full of side effects from cancer is not fair to them. This research question is important because it can actually help oncologists or neuro-oncologists see which cancer treatment is giving patients the most severe cognitive dysfunction. From the new information found, doctors can evaluate which cancer treatment to use and which ones not to use. The ones that doctors chose not to use are usually the ones that cause high levels of chemo brain. Many oncologists can also see the individual medication used in each treatment. They can do further experiments to figure out which medication is the cause of cognitive dysfunction. Furthermore, doctors can even take all this information and maybe even find a replacement of the medication that is the cause of chemo brain, to help cure it. This research can really benefit family members of those patients going through cancer treatment or chemo brain. These individuals can see the different side effects of each
Cancer is figured to be the second leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. With approximately 14 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer related deaths in 2012, alone .Why are so many people stuck suffering with this deadly disease? Millions of dollars have been invested into cancer research, yet there is no cure. Are these pharmaceutical companies focus on finding a cure for cancer or concentrating on elongated treatments in order to lengthen their pockets? We must first understand that cancer is big business earning huge profits. Nonetheless, the cancer industry is spending virtually zilch of its multi-billion dollar resources on effective prevention strategies, like dietary guidelines, exercise, natural remedies and herbs proven to cure cancer. Instead, it pours its money into treating cancer, not preventing or allaying it.
As a result, the amount of money that gets propelled back into the healthcare industry skyrockets as the list of medical issues following these treatments grows more and more extensive. A study done by Dr. John Diamond shows that females who undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments “face a 35% chance of developing breast cancer by the time they are 40, which is 75 times greater than average” (Dr. John Diamond, MD). Chemotherapy and radiation have been proven to weaken, and sometimes completely destroy, the immune system. This makes the already physically unstable patient even more susceptible to illnesses and diseases that they wouldn 't otherwise have had to worry about. Consequently, the recurrence of cancer is a very likely, and in some cases, unavoidable. But it is unacceptable that the most common and easily accessible drug is the reason why 35% of patients will develop a second cancer (haematologica.org). Many other cancers can come as a result of chemotherapy too. One study found that, "Patients who underwent chemo were 14 times more likely to develop leukemia and 6 times more likely to develop cancers of the bones, joints, and soft tissues than those patients who did not undergo
Sickness can leave many adults unable to function unlike a child with boundless energy. Also, diagnosing a child with cancer is even more difficult when the child is unable to explain how they feel. Infants to young children are unable to communicate with the parent of symptoms, which could slow down or delay diagnosis. Each child’s reaction to chemotherapy is uniquely different. The treatment used differ from child to child, and from one type of cancer to another type of cancer. Also, certain things can affect a child’s risk of effects from the treatment, such as: the type of cancer, where the cancer is found, how old the child is, the child’s overall health,, and the child’s genetic makeup (inherited risk for a certain health problem) (Late Effects). Most treatments side effects appear during or just after treatment, but some problems may continue on or may not show up until months or possibly even years after the treatment is given. These problems are known as late effects. Due to more and more children with cancer now surviving into adulthood, their long-term health and these late effects have become more of a specific focus of care and research. Late effects are caused by the damage that cancer treatment does to healthy cells in the body. Most late effects are caused by the drug chemotherapy and the treatment radiation. Cancer treatments like radiation therapy or chemotherapy kill cells that grow quickly, such as the cancer cells. Treatment can damage
As established in the National Cancer Institute, “Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide for children and adolescents in America, accounting for more than 91,250 children that lose their lives to this disease” (National Cancer Institute). Cancer is not considered a terminal illness, but more of a chronic illness because of the intense treatment that the individual has to endure. As a result of this treatment the chances of survival for children suffering from pediatric cancer has increased around 80 percent. The increment in the survival rate has made it possible for many parents to not have to go through the acceptance that they are about to lose their child to a terminal illness, but have coping strategies that will make them adapt to the fear of the reoccurrence of that illness. This illness has a great impact on the patient as well as the family because not only do they have to adapt to this illness physically, but also mentally. Research has shown that there are both short term and long term effects that come into effect when the child is both in treatment and also years after the treatment. The type of cancers that these adolescents have to endure range from leukemia, brain tumors and other cancerous tumors that have appeared in recent medical studies. These tumors can either be benignant, an acute case that is non-cancerous or malignant, a cancerous case that will need intense treatment over an extended period of time. While many would say there is more of a
Each treatment depends on the part of the body, the progression, and the health of the individual. Some general treatments can involve surgery to remove the abnormal cells, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. There are also a long list of medications or drugs to treat cancer as well. There are even people that prefer herbal treatments.
Critics often state that chemotherapy does not cure cancer. The reality is that cancer is unique to each person and cancer cells can become resistant to chemo. Some tumors can remain dormant in a person’s body for a period of time and attack the body once again creating a recurrence of the tumors. The tumors which can be found during a recurrence tend to develop a kind of immunity to treatments used previously. For example, if the cancer comes back within a year or 2 of chemo treatment, it may be resistant to the type of chemo used previously and another drug may need to be considered as an alternative. Chemo treatments are made up of multiple chemical combinations and certain treatments react better to different types of cancer than others.
Having to watch a person suffer is quite difficult, but having to bear witness to the suffering of a child is downright heartbreaking. Thinking from a parent’s perspective it seems unimaginable to think that an innocent child, your child, could be diagnosed with cancer; and although it is rare for a child to develop cancer it is not impossible. Sadly, cancer is actually the leading cause of death by disease past infancy among children in the United States.
Although cancer is not always deadly it does have many detrimental effects on the person and the people around them. It has been around since the dawn of humans. clear evidence has been found in fossilized bones tumors and ancient egyptian mummies. (cancer.org). cancer is when a cell in your body starts to uncontrollably grow into a tumor. Normally, cells go on a cycle where they are created by your body, serve their functions, and die off restarting the cycle. cancer cells don’t die off and instead, the cells starts to multiply and invade other tissues. cancer comes in many different shapes and forms. This is due to their change to their change in chemical make-up called DNA. DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is the genetic makeup that directs the action and job of the cell. In a cancer cell that has its DNA damaged it doesn’t die off or repair itself. Instead it creates replicas of themselves that your body does not need, with the same damaged DNA. cancer is a very fast paced and deadly illness. It can very readily spread throughout the body. If it so happens that it the cells enter the bloodstream it can travel into other parts forming tumors in other locations of the person's body. This process of cancer spreading throughout is called metastasis (cancer.org). Because there are different types of cancer, depending on the type of cancer treatment is dependent on it.
