One of the main reason that caused the civil war was the reaction of the people. This is all started when summer got beat my butler with a cane to the senate floor. Because butler got a overwhelming thanks from the South. In document k, it says “southerners sent brooks dozens of gold-headed canes to replace the one he broke over Summers head”. People can see the actions wouldnt of happend if Summer didn't react this way. This was a very harsh thing to do to butler, but we can see that the South had more power at this point. The North was being judgemental because of how Summer represented them and how he always had to say something about the South. Butler was a little too extreme but he got straight to the point and made the South be ready
Slavery makes people that are confident and people that think they can do anything, make them feel like they can't do anything and make them not confident.
In 1861, a Civil War broke out in the United States when the South declared their independence from the Union. There is a great amount of reasons that people can argue how the Civil War was started. However, what most people don’t understand, is that most of the events leading up to the Civil War were related to slavery. Slavery was the core of the North and South’s conflict, which led to a very vicious feud.
One could argue that the true causes of the Civil War were states’ rights and taxations. Although this played a large part in the start of the Civil War, slavery was the ultimate factor that led to this event in history. Economic and social differences between the north and the south, fights between slave and non-slave proponents, the growth of the abolition movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln are all events having to do with slavery in the United States that led to the start of the Civil War.
The Civil War was caused by the economics of slavery and the political control of that system, specifically being states’ rights on the federal powers of the government, the territorial expansion of the united states that led to the division of the two sides, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln which was the final event that sent the nation to war.
Slavery, as Abraham Lincoln often noted, was the root cause of the Civil War. Tensions over slavery dated back to the contradictory nature of the American Revolution of 1776 that resulted in a republic simultaneously committed to freedom for whites and bondage for blacks (Barney W., p. 61). Within years North and South reached the point at which compromise was not possible. At that time Civil War had been started.
The Civil War was caused by many several pressures, principles, and prejudices, fueled by sectional differences, and was finally set into motion by a most unlikely set of political events. From economic differences to political differences all the way up to cultural differences, the North and the South opposed each other. These tensions were further increased after the western expansion of the United States. By the early 1850’s a civil war was known to be likely coming soon.
The causes of most wars are often very complex, but in the America civil war it came down to two major issues, slavery and the protection of the Union. In the North, they were growing richer all the time as industry developed fast. The workers were mostly immigrants with low wages. The South didn’t have these resources, and the slaves were essential for them. The Northern politicians insisted that the Slavery should be abolished and that this was an evil system that should be stamped out. Only the rich wool farmers and other wealthy
The Industrial Revolution that the North was experiencing was great for the country. The factories brought in substantial revenue for the government. This was attained because the factories workers could build faster, and sell larger quantities of the product which meant they could make larger amounts of money rapidly. The Industrial Revolution, however, was only being experienced in the North, and not the South, which eventually led to much difficulty and a disparity between these regions of the country. With the support of the Union, the North wanted the South to join them, but they were so invested in their farm sand plantations that they couldn’t abandon them and build factories, and this is where the economic
The Civil War was caused by economic conflict, slavery issues and the disagreements between the North and South.
The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the country began. Some causes include; states’ rights, economics, and slavery. The most recognizable and popular cause is slavery. The freeing of the slaves was an important moral issue at the time and one of the greatest causes of the civil war. "It was only by carefully avoiding the moral issue involved in slavery that Northerners and Southerners could meet on any common ground." (Goldston, 79). The time came in which our great country would finally address the moral issue of slavery. Although there are many different causes to the American Civil War, the main cause was slavery because other causes are rooted in the issue of slavery.
Starting out there were many factors that caused the Civil War. The two main issue that caused the Civil War were slavery and the economic and political differences between the North and South. Although the Compromise of 1850, inflated the power of the South to compensate for how it was becoming more focused around slavery. Angry Northerners began to take action against the South in events such as the Bleeding Kansas. Southerners saw the election of a new Republican president which they wouldn't be able to stand up to politically or economically. The Compromise of 1850 was an attempt to hide the fact that the North had a limitless capacity to expand(population and land) and the South wasn't going to expand. The
The first possible cause for the start of the Civil War was the economic differences. The first piece of evidence is from Document A, it shows that the north had more railroads so they could transport goods much faster and easier while the south didn't have as many railroads making it harder for them to trade and transport. The second piece of evidence is from Document B it says the north has almost everything the have more population, industrial workers, their manufactured goods have more value per year, they have more railroad mileage, and they grow more corn. The only things the south has more of is slaves and cotton. The last piece of evidence is from Document C it explains that southerners were compelled to go the the north because they have everything. They have almost every article of utility and adornment and the south has to go to the north to get anything besides cotton. The south has no foreign
From 1861 to 1865 our nation had suffered a major crisis. One nation divided into two sides due to the different views on slavery and economic conflicts. The North wanted to abolish slavery while the South wanted to keep slavery. The North's economy was growing and getting better due to industrialization while on the other hand, the South’s economy was slowly starting to decrease since they were mostly based on agriculture. But the 3 major events that caused the civil war were slavery, social differences, and economic differences.
The Civil War was caused by many reasons. The factors that were most responsible in causing the Civil War were the different views of the Constitution among the North and South, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the arrival of Lincoln as president. They caused immense destruction throughout the nation. If these factors were prevented, the United States could have been preserved and civil war could have never occurred.
Generally, it is thought to be the South’s fault for causing the Civil War. Contrary to popular belief, the Civil War was mainly provoked by the North; through using the federal government to overtake the South, removing slavery which would destroy Southern economy, and creating the moral issue of slavery. The North was the primary reason for the start of a war that ripped our country apart.
