Joint stiffness is the sensation of difficulty moving a joint or the apparent loss of range of motion of a joint. It is often accompanies by joint pain, redness, tingling, numbness, warmth and swelling. Joint stiffness can be caused by injury or disease of the joint and is a common finding among individual’s diagnoses with an arthritis conditions. 1). Obesity: The author, Kane defines obesity as a person's weight been greater than what's considered healthy for his or her normal height (2013). Obesity is a complex disorder in the United States involving in an overproduction of body fat in the body. RA causes painful, stiff, and swollen joints. Usually, RA affects hands, feet, and knees by creating an inflammation throughout the body, and can lead to joint erosion and pain. In RA, there is a concept called adipokines, and most types of adipokines promote inflammation. Another inflammatory chemical in RA is called cytokines. This inflammatory affect the different part of the body systems, including musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems. A type of adipokine is called adiponectin which is good for the heart, because of the anti-inflammatory effect on blood vessels; however, the downfall about this adiponectin is that it causes inflammation in joints (Kane, 2013). RA patients are more vulnerable to a higher cardiovascular mortality risk than the general population.
