Something the Lord Made It only takes a thought to inspire someone to think that the impossible can be done. That is exactly what happened in Something the Lord Made. Dr. Blalock and Dr. Thomas did what they had always been told could never be done. Dr. Blalock had the thought and Dr. Thomas had the drive and self-motivation to prove that the impossible was possible. If it had not been for Dr. Blalock and Dr. Thomas millions of people would have continued to die due to cardiac problems. Since the time of their first successful operation to now, the world of cardiac treatment and procedures has evolved and now saves millions of peoples’ lives each year. When it comes to new medical treatment it only takes one person, (or a few people), to believe or have curiosity to explore new ideas that can lead to life saving/improving treatments and/or devices. Once a new technique is discovered to work, over time that once “new technique” seems to evolve and more and more “new techniques” spawn off of that one single idea leading to amazing things. The new technique that Dr. Blalock and Dr. Thomas used would definitely have an effect on the length of stay and the reimbursement amount. Before Dr. Blalock’s work the “blue babies” were hospitalized until they passed away. It could take six months to a year before the babies passed away. Obviously the length of stay and the reimbursement amount would have been extremely high before this new procedure came out. After Dr.
Burditts behalf. Although he had indicated that the transfer was to ensure that the unborn baby would have the availability of an “advanced neonatal unit” if required (Lewin, 1991, para 10). Had the infant required specialized care, he or she could have been flown in a helicopter to the nearest location with a neonatal unit. In addition, this act prevents hospitals from discharging, transferring, or refusing treatment to those women who are in active labor. Dr. Burditt stated that the patient was in active labor and continued to transfer the patient with her being high risk with her blood pressure.
He may have found out how to resolve Blue Baby syndrome, but he was not given credit for it. In 1968, the surgeons Thomas trained became chiefs of surgical departments throughout America. He wrote an autobiography about himself. It was published days after his death, yet still he was not known. The writer Katie McCabe made his story known when wrote about his story in her 1989 article called “Like Something the Made”. Also, there was a movie about Vivien Thomas called “Something the Lord Made”, which was premiered in 2004. Regardless of the challenges he confronted, he was still able to become culturally diverse.
Explanation: This is because in this case the procedure would be attempting to save the baby from ever contracting cancer and though the procedure would likely to have its own fair share of uncertain consequences it would thus be worth trying to save the baby from cancer and enable them have a long healthy life not threatened by cancer.
They were being sent off to many places to be testing many different ways. During this time, Alexis Carrel successfully grew a chicken heart out of the body of a chicken. This was publicly announced on TV, newspaper, and radio. Most people thought that this would change the way of life, giving people immortal life. After years of keeping the heart alive, most started thinking it was just a big hoax and giving people a false sense of hope. Then after Alexis Carrel died, his assistant “accidently” threw away the heart. One scientist found out that Carrel kept the heart alive by “feeding” the heart new cells every now and then because the old cells had kept
Mr. and Mrs. Trosack have decided to carry their infant to full term and care for their child due to their religious beliefs. At this time the RN would be responsible to clarify and document the parents’ wishes. The RN would be responsible for coordinating appointments with the specialists that
What we come to realize is that Jesus happily healed him of his sickness, but physical healing would do the man no good in the long run. Jesus wanted to give this man eternal healing. We can ask Jesus to give us all we want, but he knows that our physical needs won’t last forever. That is why He is more interested in giving us something that will last forever, a heart transformation.
There are several theoretical pitfalls a Christian may encounter when grappling with his or her illness or that of a loved one. For example, it may be tempting to place one's faith in modern medicine and forget that God provides the power with which to access, use, and succeed with modern medicine. This point of view is understandable given the secular nature of the modern medical system. Yet only God is responsible
As a result of Dr. Blacklock and Vivian Thomas’ research and breakthrough human heart surgery became possible. The two worked closely together and had major contributions to the heart surgery. However, Vivian Thomas’ contributions to the research went unnoticed for more than three decades. Vivian Thomas faced many inequalities, which he approached with a respectable manner. Many of the inequalities faced were because of the changing attitudes about race throughout the 20th century. In today’s world the recognition going to Vivian Thomas and Dr. Blacklock would’ve played out differently and would’ve accredited Vivian Thomas for his work.
Have you ever heard of a blue baby? The author’s mother, Marilyn, was born a blue baby and after many tests the doctors diagnosed her with tetralogy of Fallot. For instance, the author took the tragedy that was her illness, and transformed it into a reflecting literary piece. Additionally, Cahalan wrote this literary piece in order to receive the needed attention from the medical field, instead of simply searching for pity from others. Furthermore, doctors from around the world would not have gained the knowledge from this illness if it were not for Cahalan and her informative piece. After the completion and publication of Cahalan’s piece, a countless amount of individuals contacted the young woman, seeking further information. Cahalan would even go as far as to contact doctors for those seeking aid from the knowledgeable woman. All together, Cahalan changed the vast medical field, as well as saved countless of lives. The tragedy that Cahalan suffered through led the author to help those going through the same traumatic experience. The author helped patients receive the necessary treatment in order to prevent the same suffering the fearless woman suffered through. Essentially, if Cahalan had not encountered this massive challenge, then the woman would have not changed the medical field and saved numerous lives. Once more, this displays a theme of overcoming severe
At a time when it was popular practice for kids growing up in my country to aspire to become doctors, lawyers and engineers, for no rational reasons owing to naiveté that comes with such tender ages, I had known I wanted to save lives. I just didn’t know in what capacity it would be. I can safely say that I grew up faster than most children my age, I had known what it meant to lose a father at six, I had seen an aunt die of what they said was cancer at ten. I had also known the frustration of not being able to do anything to save both. And of course, I couldn’t have. I am a grown man now, equipped with the rationality that comes with education, and most importantly the informed will to save the world. And I have found an important tool in Medical Physics.
