What Does Being American Mean

To be an American means many different things. It means to be kind and help others. It means that no matter what we stick together and fight for our country. Most of all to be American means to stay strong and and stick together through thick and thin. We have stuck together as a country through times of war and terror.

The article “What Does it Mean to be an American?” questions multiple views on what being an American citizen means as America is mostly made up of immigrants and could alter the overall meaning. In the articles, they went over many different statistics and surveys to find out what people thought being an American meant and what the value behind it was. Robert P. Jones, his team, and Steven M. Warshawsky each had different opinions on what being an American meant. Warshawsky argued that identifying as an American means following America’s beliefs, laws, and way of life.

What it means to be an American, to me it means to fight for this great country that our God created, the same god who made everyone of us. I also feel it's my duty if our country goes into a major war, then I feel I should go and fight for what's right. Therefore I also feel that everyone was made equal and we are the same we are people and Americans so why can't we all matter. To me no one is more popular or bigger than anyone we are all Americans and people, the people who think they are bigger and more popular than anyone else they like to think they are, but they really aren't. What It Means To Be An American My true definition of what it means to be an American is, celebrating the holidays with your family. Our country of the United States is and will always be Interwoven from the Fourth Of July to celebrate the Independence that we are given from the soldiers that fought in a war for us, our freedom of Independence that we are not disparate from each other, and spending time with you family or friends celebrating this special day by firing off fireworks or going to your local parade. Also my favourite of the holidays being Christmas with the long break that us kids in school get, or spending time with family and eating celebratory dinners with the people you love the most. All though other people have many different ideas of what it means to be an American, this is what I believe is the definition of being an American.

What does it mean to be an American? If you believe in the fundamentals that this country was founded upon, I think you’re an American. There are many people living in this country who consider themselves American, but their neighbor who has a different skin color or accent is not. These Americans in my opinion are not true Americans. As I said, I think you have to believe in the fundamentals.

Being an American citizen gives me many rights and liberties, and that makes this country so unique. I have visited other countries on my vacations, and many have relied on people coming from other countries to help make money, mostly from tourism. In America, we have the freedom of speech. We can say what we want to say anytime we want to say it. The power of speech is often abused. People in America often do not realize how lucky they are to. Being an American is not a phrase that should be thrown around lightly. Ask the question of “what does it mean to be an American?” seventy-five years ago during a World War and someone will get a totally different answer than today, but the meaning behind the answers stays the same.
