I was a dancer for fourteen years, beginning at the age of four and ending at the age of 18. I participated in basically every type of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, lyrical, and contemporary. Each year, I would participate in more classes than the last, and it eventually got to the point where I would be attending dance classes five or six days of my week. It definitely got tiring, but I still loved it. Dance is a great way to be able to portray emotions through movement, and I think that is very unique and special to participate in. It was a very huge part of my life, and so were the people teaching me. Dance and everything that came with it was a huge influence on my life, and it helped shaped me into the person I am today.
Thanks to this dance I feel more of a connection when I dance with my family and I am more confident and It makes me dance a lot more than I used to. Dancing is huge in my family it makes us (in my opinion) more connected being able to laugh and spend time together just makes a difference. I have a big family +100 cousins and I always feel like I'm close to every single on them because of dancing. This class gave me a better understanding of why my family dances it really gives a connection to everyone who is dancing. Also I think everyone should take a dance class regardless if they need it for their major, I being a chemical engineering student still think it is very relevant to take this class because I think it helps broaden who you interact with
My favorite dance was the contemporary routine with Derek, Jaja, and Alexia. The choreographer, Stacey Tookey, explained that the piece was about bravery in different forms: Derek played a veteran, Jaja was portraying a woman leaving an abusive relationship, and Alexia took on the role of a single mother. I really enjoyed the dance because of the story it was trying to convey; each dancer dove into character and brought out complex emotions through their movements. The dancers connected deeply with each of their stories, even though they were completely different people. They were portraying things that they had never personally experienced in their lives before. They showed the strengths of the characters along with their weaknesses, they

This ballet class felt like one of the best classes I have ever had and done. I did notices that a few of my old habits were slowly returning such as over using my muscles especially when combinations got tough. The combinations that I noticed that I tensed up on or used more muscles then I need to I practiced that combination outside of class at a slower tempo. Once I was able to accomplish the combination without over using my muscles and tensing up I slowly started to speed it up to the tempo that it was taught at. I have also noticed that working on the combination outside of class allows me to work on my own timing and areas of my
I really enjoyed this class due to the variety of activities that were assigned, and the people I was able to bond with. I would have to say that “Turbo Kick” was my favorite activity we did. Although I ended up spraining my ankle during the session, it was still a lot of fun. Another one of my favorite activities would be the free workout days at the corec. I felt like I could workout at my own pace, without holding anyone back. I also was able to work on cardio, strength, and endurance activities as many or as little as I wanted.
“Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.” This quote by Martha Graham, an American modern dancer and choreographer, is one of my favorite quotes about dancing. Blissfully gliding across the stage, leaping through the air, and moving with such fierceness that you can actually feel the music reverberating throughout your body are all things that dancers feel on a daily basis. I can tell you firsthand that these are some of the best feelings in the world. I’ve been dancing for about eight years now, while I am currently taking 5 classes, with a total of 4.25 hours each week, spread over 4 days. I take one hour of each ballet, jazz, and performance, 45 minutes of tap, and ½ hour of conditioning.
Throughout my early years of dance, I began to learn several styles and techniques in my classes at my studio. Not only was my knowledge of dance increasing, but my love for it was as well.
Melanie showed us different styled of modern dance and had us do so many fun combinations. My favorite part was going across the floor. She always said that there is no wrong way of doing things. She took the time to show us a combination more than once if we needed it. Modern was one of my favorite classes.
For the end of Ballet techniques, alignment, Jazz and Dance Theater I learned how much the way we use each muzzle perfectionazis the move or technique of a dance, I also learned a lot of history of Jazz which I never knew that it was history. I used to dance in a competitive dance academy in Argentina, and I absolutely loved the choreographies but after moving back to Spain it was really hard to find a dance teacher that I was able to adapt and enjoy but in this dance class I definitely love every choreography. Most of the techniques used to learn new dance moves work for me, as long as I enjoy the class, I get interested and I think it’s really fun.
In the year of 1973, an iconic style of music arose: Hip Hop. Throughout the years it gradually became about partying, doing drugs, and rebelling against authority. A suitable example of this would be the tremendously popular rap group known as Migos. Often, their lyrics refer to getting money, doing drugs, and keeping secrets from law enforcement officers. Although their tunes are appealing, the meaning behind the lyrics have absolutely no difference from other rappers.
When i have several things to do and several places to go in a day, i feel thrilled and accomplished, i like being busy. I have learned how to prepare and how to deal with being overwhelmed and tired. Dance has pushed me mentally and physically everyday to be ten times better then what i just did and to be a hundred percent focused and detailed in everything. It has taught me to pick apart every move constantly and always be prepared for failure no matter how much was put in. Imagine working a whole year constantly to learn and perfect one dance and then after all the hard work, you only get one chance to do it. It could turn out amazing or you could do awful but you only get one chance to do your best. You have to be ready for failure and you have to be prepared to mess up or score awful even if you've worked your hardest and have been giving it your all for a whole year. Dance has taught me amazing characteristics that have made me do better in school then i would ever done without
Hip Hop is a genre of music consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted. Hip-hop is not only a genre of music its a form of art and culture. It can also be a style and language. Hip Hop is described as accompanying background music but is often a synonym to rap music. In this paper I will show how rap got started and evolved into the culture we know today as Hip Hop.
semester I had to take Dance 131-2 because it was one of my requirements for general classes. After attending “A Cadiz Por Alegria” and attending my first Dance course, dance has meant something more than just dancing. In “A Cadiz Por Alegria” performances there were so many steps, movements and clothes that I have learn taking Spanish Dance. This performance has been so different than any other I have gone to. Dresses were looking beautiful as well the people performing never I had watched a dance performed like I had this year. Hand movements were very well moved, also the rhythm of the music was being well followed. What was so amazing was how everyone was working
As a student, I felt that I became a more responsible individual through this course. In grade 9, I did not treat dance as a serious subject and took it for fun. This was something that I wanted to change as my attitude towards dance was lacking compared to my peers. Therefore, on a
