Popularity in Today’s Society When most people think of popular people they think of bullies or people who are just popular because they are mean so they put themselves above others, which is true and I agree that there are people who are popular because of that, but there is also people who are friends with everyone and are nice to everyone and there isn’t a single person who doesn’t like them. I’m not going to make this essay about bullying but more of what popularity means to me and how important I think it is to be popular. What does being “popular” mean exactly, well if you look up the word popularity “the state or condition of being liked, admired, or supported by many people” will be what comes up. How does someone become popular is a more important question. Most people become popular by going over the top of others, by putting themselves above others and thinking that they are more important than them. Which to me isn’t true popularity, if I had to choose I wouldn’t use the word popular because it’s a word that popular people like to use, but to me to be popular is to be nice to everyone and work to where you are and not have to hurt others to make the way to the top. There is people who are popular by pushing over others and there are people who are popular because they work hard for what they have. …show more content…
To me it is not important being popular and it’s only important if you want to be. If you have your friends that you like and you are happy why you need to have people call you popular. To me being called popular is almost insulting because of the type of people you think of when you hear the word popular. If being called popular is important to you go ahead and think of why, what will be the difference, will people think of you different, what are you trying to accomplish in the long run by being called popular or being a popular
Have you ever been an outcast to other kids? The popular kids? Well this very unlucky kid Will, has been there. In this essay about the story Popularity By Adam Bagdasarian, I am going to tell you how he has gotten with the popular group and changed him for the worse. First off he was mean to his previous friends. Next he was trying to be part of the popular group. And finally he became very arrogant.
This is any music since industrialization in the mid-1800s that is in line with the tastes and preferences of the middle class.
In the short story, Popularity, by Adam Bagdasarian, the narrator yearns to be popular. As the school year goes by the narrator immensely looks up to the popular kids wanting and wanting to be one of them. One day the narrator decided to go up to the popular boys to try and get into their circle. When the narrator arrives he couldn't get noticed. The next day he tried again and was able to get noticed by making a joke that caused everyone to laugh. Soon, the narrator became on of the popular kids. After a while the narrator realizes being popular isn't all that great. Because of this event, the he changes. The narrator is the dynamic character who started off thinking that being popular was so cool. At the end one the narrator was popular he
The Flip Side of Internet Fame by Jessica Bennett. I believe her argument is how things posted on the internet is big, like once someone post something on their it’s going to be on the internet forever. I agree with her because once you posted something on the internet it’s forever going up there even if you deleted the post or the picture. I am going to write about the first person that Jessica Bennett talks to about the “Star Wars Kid”, bullying, and the cyber world.
might as well have worn a sign on my back: I AM NOT POPULAR AND NEVER WILL
I roll my eyes. That's all the populars care about is their reputation, not about grades, not about other people's feelings, just their reputation.
Popularity is one of the most commonly studied peer interaction phenomenon. Initially these studies assigned participants to one of the following standard sociometric categories: popular, rejected, neglected, average, and controversial. These studies faded away for two main reasons. The first is that this model neglected to take the school structure into consideration when studying popularity. It ignored that due to the transition between classes starting in middle school students no longer have a small and stable social component that social interactions and sociometric status could be based on. The second is that popularity depends on the adolescents’ perception of popularity rather than how well liked an adolescent is. Popularity heavily depends on the
To most kids in high school, social status and physical appearance are everything. A kid doesn’t necessarily have to be the most attractive person in the school to be considered popular, but sadly it seems to help amongst the more superficially minded teenagers. The jocks are seen as the “top dogs” of the school, due to their athletic physique and luck when it comes to dating. Cheerleaders are considered “the perfect, most beautiful” girls in the entire school, and some of them believe that makes them better than everyone else. I was viewed as a loser when I first moved to Plano, Texas. I had a chili bowl haircut, large glasses, and a thick west Texas accent. I also had a lot of friends who enjoyed playing video games and daydreaming about
Following passion is understandable, but taking care of responsibilities first will have much more of a positive effect on life. The desire to be popular now may help the present but in the future no one will care who was the most popular in school. Being responsible can be a life saver now and in the
So cliques and peer groups are the main reasons people to want to be cool. I know, because I just said so. And that’s the same psychology the media uses to “sell” people on “what’s cool”. There are a lot of celebrity news programs and the “E” channel, telling the viewers “Who’s hot and who’s not” or what kind of clothes are trendy, or Jennifer Aniston’s hair is the bomb, or Angelina Jolie has great lips, etc. I think it’s a good thing we have Joan Rivers and Kathy Griffin to put their
The author agrees with the fact that the jocks get the majority of the fame rather than the occupations that deserve it such as teachers. Teachers show kids how to act during the real life and to learn right from wrong. While
As a child, I saw people as being people. Which means I didn’t notice all the things they did, like their behaviors or actions. I just went with the flow. I did what people told me to do if I thought they had some authority. In elementary school, I didn’t focus on what people called popular and didn’t feel the need to worry
Everyone is surrounded by popular culture in our society today. It is everywhere. From watching TV, to reading magazines, being on social media, and just browsing the internet. Popular culture is the entirety of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, images, and other phenomena that are within the mainstream of a given culture. The question is popular culture good or bad?
In a school setting, appearance and grooming is also a key factor in being popular (Adler et al., 1992). According to Merriam-Webster’s (2017), popular is defined as “the state of being liked, enjoyed, accepted, or done by many people”. In school, the appearance of being popular for boys includes the gender roles of wearing high end authentic sports apparel like jerseys and shoes (Adler et al., 1992). The term unpopular is defined as not being liked nor
I am not staying popular people cannot be friends, but they are friends based on a superficial idea. They care about the clothes, the looks, and what people thought of them, while my sister did not care how she dressed or if what approved of what she was doing. All she cared about was having what she determined to be fun. While most people looked at her as being a nerd, I look at her as being a cool person who was content with her life.
