Before reading Becoming a Learner: Realizing the Opportunity of Education by Matthew Sanders, I saw my personal role as a student in higher education to obtain an education degree so that I can start my career. I was frustrated with all the time and money that I had to take this summer semester to relearn unneeded formulas in Beginning Algebra, write numerous unnecessary essays in English Composition and memorize useless information in General Psychology as they are required core classes in the Education Assistant Program. I just wanted to be able to get into the classes that really mattered. Classes with interesting titles like: Individual Education Programs, Effective Teaching, Develop & Adapt the Curriculum, Behavioral Intervention & Classroom and similar ones that will prepare me to do my job as a teacher's assistant upon graduation.
The main argument here is that the knowledge represents for me the basis of my values, from which I learned most things, which in return guided me to the other good values like the honesty, responsibility and accountability. I highly believe that the knowledge is the major source of all other good
Learning is so much more than memorizing information. When I was in school in my younger days, I was forced to memorize random facts that seemed to have no meaning in my life. As soon as we took the test over that subject, much of that information left me. If you are to truly learn something, you must learn to intentionally understand and apply it to your life (Christine A. Johnston, Intentional Learning For College Success). I used to think that I could not learn anything new if it wasn 't involving my hands in a mechanical fashion (i.e. rebuilding motors), but I have learned that I can do anything if I focus and am intentional in trying to learn that thing.
David Korten stated the concept of learning process in 1980. According to him, the process of learning is continuous and involved not only planners and implementers, but rural people. The goal of this approach is to develop capabilities through developing ideas, for making-decisions and creating continual innovations. The process includes the areas of technology and organization or even a mix of both. The learning process serves an alternative to the blueprint approach, taking into account the particular context of the project. (Krishna et al., 1998)
Learning can be defined as the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or being taught (XXXX). The things that we learn are also a result of our personal experiences, how we modify our memory as we continue to learn and the realization that what we learn is going to become permanent in our minds. While understanding that our personal experience is a way of learning, this could be imperfect by itself based on various concepts of learning. As we grow the learning process grows with us. As new things are learned, they will replace old learning, modify it or even expand what we have already learned. Learning as a specific term, is a topic close to the heart of psychology. As we develop in life since birth there is an increase of knowledge, through the process of acquiring information, by memorization, by facts, skills and methods. It relates to our daily life and it involves everything that we experience daily in our world.
Plass). Before that the J.H. Plass says, “Learning-to-learn means that you open yourself to discovering the unknown, experiences and then actually become able to do something with it” (J.H. Plass) which I agree with wholeheartedly. Most students go to school, sit in class, go home, do their homework, and study for the test; they are at school to get a good grade and move on and are just learning for the sake of learning. As soon as students take a test they forget the information because all they care about it memorizing facts and getting an A. However, this is not what school and knowledge should be all about. Students should want to learn to better enrich themselves and to pursue their dreams because we are always learning and as the author states, “The honest thief does not stop learning after he hangs his diplomas nicely framed behind his desk. He remains a student for life. This is what he has learned” (J.H. Plass). Everyone should be taught that getting a good grade is not everything, school is not just about your class rank, and education and learning-to-learn should not be taken for granted as well
Learning is explained numerous ways by multiple individuals at various times in life. This is the purpose of the educational system, my field of study, continuously evolving. Christine A. Johnston, author of Intentional Learning for College Success, defines learning as, “whether in a classroom, the real world, or online, involves you taking in the world around you and connecting to what you are experiencing.” This definition is as accurate of one imaginable. Learning is, in fact, making sense of the continuous evolving world around you and processing the information for communication and growth.
Make steps to create a space for learning in your life, and never miss an opportunity to gain useful knowledge when it is presented to you.
The term learning is not just about the basic concept of memorizing information handed to you by an instructor. Although, that is one aspect of learning. Learning is a key role in everyday life. You may not be aware, but you learn every day. Simply by checking the weather, you are gathering information to plan your day accordingly. My views of learning have changed a bit. Although, I knew that everybody learned differently, I did not know why. Early in the class you begin to learn about Learning Patterns. It is these patterns that determine how an individual perceives information. It is also these Learning Patterns that dictate how a person begins and finishes a task.
We all know that learning today has expanded far beyond books and lessons. In our global society, learning includes creating new understanding, respect and appreciation for different people and cultures. Many learning institutions have created joint learning programs in Second Life with great success. Using the various collaboration tools in Second Life, and the Second Life Education email list, it’s easy to connect with other teachers and professors in Second Life who are open to collaborating, sharing, and creating joint learning programs. Because Second Life accommodates synchronous and asynchronous learning, time zones start to melt away.
Learning is an essential part of life. It is an ongoing process that starts before we are even born and stops the second we die. There are a variety of reasons why we learn, this may simply be our curiosity. We ask questions about a topic we are not certain about. By doing so, we acquire knowledge that is automatically sored in our brain.
Learning is the activity that all of us have to do during our life. We gain from the minute we are destined to the minute we kick the bucket; this is the main route for us to survive and live typically in this world. Various people go to schools to expansion information, however others get their knowledge from their involvement in life. Both ways furnish us with much profitable learning. On the other hand, as I would see it, I imagine that encounter is the more essential wellspring of learning.
| * Teacher lets the pupil say the meaning of the word instead of teacher saying the meaning for them. e.g.- the meaning of condensation.
The process of learning is more complex than retaining information that is received; it is the application of the information given. If I were to explain learning to someone who has not taken this class; I would explain by definition that learning is a natural and necessary aspect of life; it is to apprehend how you learn and also make sense of the world around you and learning is crucial to our existence. Prior of taking this course I have always defined learning as the transmission of information conveyed between us. Now this course has opened my eyes to different aspects of learning that I had never thought of. It made me understand that learning encompasses the ability to think and reason, the motivation to engage, act, and the courage to acknowledge feelings and empathize. Learning can also empower me to new knowledge which will enable me to appreciate myself, life, grow, adapt and have my own realization of the world that makes sense to me.
Learning is a significant process in human being life. It is self-evidence that human development can not stand without a good learning. To reach that target, people always search the appropriate ways. Besides, the mains important elements that help people to learn are books and experiences because of their unlimited benefits.
