I can truly imagine someone writing an article claiming Hamlet is about any of the topics I listed above, citing the examples I’ve mentioned for every topic. And the article might feel convincing. Yet, one might still wonder. Since Fortinbras was able to waltz in and take over Denmark without even raising his sword. Was this the result of careful planning? No. He got lucky. By the time he arrived, the entire royal family was dead. Is "Hamlet," then, a play about luck? Is its moral "The best way to make God laugh is to tell him your plans?" Not quite. Because even with his good luck towards the end, Hamlet still could have failed. He could have lost his nerve at the last minute. He could have paused long enough for Claudius to summon guards.
