     What Does It Mean to Be a Male or Female in Today’s Society? In my opinion, the media has a big influence on the way that we see men and women in today’s society. We are being confronted with advertisements, television programs, magazines, and movies that depict how we as humans should act. For years the media has depicted women as the housewives who usually stay home and take care of the house and her family. “The strength of a woman lies in her own hands”, and it is up to the woman to speak up for herself and let everyone know where she stands. It is the 21th century and it is not like it used to be, where the women stayed home with the children and did the housework but, now you have dads that stay home and the wife is out making a living for the family. Women are becoming more independent; you have single moms who do not need a man to take care of her and her child or children. The women now get just as good a position in the work field as the man. There is no limit to what women can do; they are doing the same jobs that back then only were suitable for men. It is a dog eat dog world and like they said, “Every man for himself.” But it should not be like that, just because I am a woman my, boyfriend should not automatically think when he comes home there is going to be food on the table. Yes, he works all day, but I have to go to school then work then come home and help my child with her homework and spend time with her before it is time to go to bed and start the day all over. My grandmother is from the 50’s era, she believes in having the meal hot and ready for her husband when he gets home, and waiting on him, hand and foot. I had to tell her this is not the 50’s. Women these days are cooking for the family but were not going to be slaves. The things women do, do not get recognized but when a man does something he gets a pat on the back. Like if
