(Narration) It sits there on a shelf, shoved away into a drawer, or even neatly wrapped and sat alone in a box. Has it been in the family for a lifetime? Or has it simply just been in an event that cannot be forgotten. But it will remain where it is. It does not have say where it belongs, or even how it is viewed, if it even can be viewed anymore. The purpose of this item still remaining is known to few, but is genuinely known by one. The owner of this item cherishes it dearly as if he or she were traveling back to the day they associate that item with. Everyone has at least one item that means more to them than just some materials thrown together to craft an overpriced product. But we owners don’t care about the condition it is in, nor do we care about how much the item was. The fact of the matter is that it means more to us in some form. (Example) What does it really mean when an object makes someone recant a specific event in their life? Well it means that for some reason, normally only a reason the owner will know, that item was a large importance for them either for just a moment or possibly a lifetime. For an example I will give an item that I have found I am quite fond of. This item is not something anyone else would find interest in, but yet many people have had or do have one with them in their life. This item is a simple teddy bear. (Cause and Effect) This little bear is not any more special than the stuffed animals available for purchase at any
“Mom stood fifteen feet away. She had tied rags around her shoulders to keep out the spring chill and was picking through the trash while her dog, a black-and-white terrier mix, played at her feet. Mom’s gestures were all familiar --- the ways she tilted her head and thrust out her lower lip when studying items of potential value that she’d hoisted out of the dumpster.”
Objects can prove to be the cause of some of the most impactful features or events in someone’s life. “Once he finished work on the Prospector and we struck it rich, he’d start work on our Glass Castle.” (Walls 25). The Prospector was a symbol of aspiration, she wanted to have a more exciting and fulfilling life. Although it also represents lies and distrustfulness because her father never actually worked on the Prospector. Instead, he went out and got drunk. The Glass Castle is quite impactful in Jeannette’s life, it gave her hope for a better life. However it’s not just that, it’s confidence in her father. That he will provide for her and create a good life for her, despite the drinking and other horrible habits he has developed. Jeannette
Dissolved oxygen is oxygen that is trapped in a fluid, such as water. Since many living organism requires oxygen to survive, it is a necessary component of water systems such as streams, lakes and rivers in order to support aquatic life. The dissolved oxygen is measured in units of parts per million (ppm). Examine the data in Table 4 showing the amount of dissolved oxygen present and the number of fish observed in the body of water the sample was taken from; finally, answer the questions below.
“I’ll help,” “Do you need anything?” and “Let me help you,” are all examples of loyalty. We are here to help each other out. What exactly is loyalty though? What is not loyalty? What are some examples of loyalty? These are all things we all need to learn.
Every person has on object in their life that is very precious to the, for me, it is my pearl necklace. They are small and round and a lustrous cream color with a pink sheen. They have a tiny gold clasp that holds the necklace together. My pearls tell a story than no other personal artifact can: my heritage. The pearls symbolized tradition and womanhood in my family’s life, and they were to be worn with dignity and pride. Every holiday, the girls of the family accessorized their outfits with the pearls given by our grandmother. They were something we all had in common: the thread that linked our generations together. I recall looking down at my Nana’s casket and I could almost hear her voice whispering
Sophomore year, I joined my High School's division of Kiwanis Key Club. The club prided itself with their devotion to community service. I thought that the club would be a great vehicle for me to assist my community while creating and expanding my relationships. However, I was greatly disappointed in the club my Sophomore year. There appeared to be little leadership present, so hardly any community service successfully took place. I made it my goal to gain a leadership position and turn the club around. Junior year, I was elected as President of the club and was re-elected to the position my Senior year.
Whether a present is bought at a store or crafted by hand, there is still a great deal of valuable thought and meaning behind it. Unfortunately, nowadays most people believe that a price tag is what dictates an object's worth. However, value is determined by at least one person's perception of worth because relationships are valuable, history increases value, and the public's desires decrease value.
A man walks into a room; the air smells of fresh drywall and high gloss paints. The wood floors have been polished recently, but the dim light makes it hard to see how perfect the floorboards were put together. The room is close to empty, only holding within the man who entered, and a display case being shone on by several spotlights. The man smiles with pride at the recent accomplishment. It has been at least 20 years since he has been in high school, and he finally made the perfect room to hold his most prized possession. He walks to the new, bullet proof display case in the middle of the room, and peers in, keeping his hands in his pockets for the fear of the temptation to touch the flawless glass. He thinks back to how he received such a wonderful object; sweaty games of football, loss after loss, him sitting on the bench most of the time. The day he saw the trophy written with his name on the front, and the “You
People hold on to pieces of jewelry, furniture, and other symbolic collectables that is passed through generations. These things can remind a person of a loved one that is seen as being priceless.
My artifact is brown and black with almost 2 decades’ worth of memories; this object is my stuffed Rottweiler named Max. This artifact, although motionless with four legs, has walked to the moon and back with me as a child full of imagination. This artifact stores the most precious memories and has been with me at every step in my life. Max is very meaningful to me because we have shared many memories, from birth until now. My stuffed animal has been with me through every ups and downs in life, every change that has ever occurred to me, has been a part my past and present; and represents my future.
The next interesting item that the kids find is a very expensive paperweight. While discussing it, Miss Moore is sure to convey that while the object is very expensive, it’s purpose is very trivial. “”This here costs $480 dollars,” say Rosie Giraffe. So we pile up all over her to see what she pointing out. My eyes tell me it’s a chunk of glass cracked with something heavy, and different-color inks dripped into the splits,
In many instances, individuals neglect to acknowledge the importance of school and a higher education. The individuals who view education as their number one priority see staying in school is important. Why is it important? Is staying in school going to benefit the student/individual? In this essay, I will explain why the literate arts are important and for what they are good. I will also give the opinions of others and what my views are.
Time, said to be eternal, possess neither a beginning nor an end. Yet however there is a fixation on being able to measure it in years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds. Trying to save time with new technology, manage time with multi-tasking activities. All in the hopes of giving meanings to the past, present and future. The past is able to been seen but not changed, today is in the present yet still unpredictable, and tomorrow is not guaranteed. If I Could Tell You by W. H. Auden is a villanelle much like others using rhyme, repetition, and meter, that revolve around the main idea of the continuity time and its unforeseeable nature.
In the touching play of Atsumori we see this astounding tale of faith and adventure. It begins with the death of a young and innocent character, Atsumori. The childlike character was killed by a man who deemed it necessary to the boys’ honor. Atsumori was in a clan that was fleeing an army but Atsumori forgot his flute in the camp site, so he had to go back and retrieve it. He is then set upon by warriors and the main character, Rensho, seeing no way out for the boy give the boy an honorable death.
The idea of necessary connection is meaningless according to Hume, since we never see the necessary connection. For example, in the event of a cue ball hiting an 8 ball. A person views the occurrence of the first event, the 8 ball moving and then the second event the 8 ball hitting the cue ball. These are two ideas that could be unrelated but the mind makes a connection. We can not assume what is occurring with any kind of certainty; since there is nothing clearly visible that connects the events. There is simply the action of an 8 ball hitting a cue ball. Hence, the connection is “in the dark” and invisible. Another example would be holding an object and then letting it drop to the ground. In this case there appears to be a sense of linkage in connection to the dropping of the object. It appears as though the 2nd object was apparently caused by the first event, letting go of the object. Hume makes the claim that finding the actual linkage of events is not possible. It is possible that they are discrete and disconnected, that just happened to occur to come side by side with time. Even if the raw data portarys that the events are apparently disconnected the mind will spontaneously connect the events. Another scenario would be person travelling on a trip from Florida Atlantic University to the country’s capital. The mind will fill in between the two events in attempt to link up the experiences, making the events appear connected. Nevertheless, a limitation regarding
