The music is dancing around me. I feel as though I am swimming in rhythms and melodies. A few measures later the music falls silent for me. I hear the music escaping my viola, floating beautifully into the air of the auditorium. I feel the music living in me too. It moves me along with the rhythm. But all too soon it’s gone, and I am left with an applauding audience and the congratulations of strangers. I can’t say that I am the best musician, but I love it all the same. Music gives me a place to lead others. I am section leader when I play my viola or violin. I can lead a sectional on a hard piece of music and walk away feeling that we have accomplished a lot. I am a leader in almost every group I am in. I don’t ask for the leadership,
Target plans to spend $20 million to expand its bathroom facilities months after it announced transgender restroom policy.
My life would be incomplete without performing music. I’ve spent time, in concert bands, in bell choirs, in school and church choirs, and singing, playing in music festivals, and in pit bands trying not to laugh my head off at the actors’ improvisations. But the art that truly speaks to my soul does not lie in creating music, it lies in dancing to it.
The 2016 Presidential race is unlike any other in American history. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has made history as the first female presidential nominee and has set an example for future generations of women, despite the controversy surrounding her career. Republican nominee, Donald Trump has made history as the first American Businessman and television personality to run for office, without any political experience. Although both nominees have significant strengths and weaknesses both are unlike any previous presidential candidates in American history. The winner of the 2016 presidential election will be Donald Trump simply because the American people value trustworthiness over experience, he is a successful businessman which could
Certainly above all, I believe music is a meticulous figure that can shape or define a person. Subsequently, I believe music has done that to me, being such a malleable person, in more ways than I've accounted music to be. In such a disguised manner it has affected my moods, daily actions, energy, and etcetera.
I express my creativity through music and communication with others. The beauty of music lies in its ability to articulate any of my feelings. Not many people know that I play the viola and have been since the sixth grade. When I play the viola, I feel liberated. I can express my true inner self without any reserves. I have moved schools three times, and each time I moved, I lost a sense of attachment to the people there. Consequently, my viola was my solace during those times. When I play the viola, I feel that I am the center of attention and that I can play as loud as I can. There are no restrictions while I am playing, so I put my heart and soul into every note that I play. When I play there are no distractions, so I can focus on my music
And they lived happily ever after... Or did they? Pride and Prejudice, a captivating novel written by Jane Austen, is the story of Elizabeth and her adventure challenging society and ending up deep in true love. Pride and Prejudice takes place in a town outside of London called Hertfordshire, where the reader follows Elizabeth, her friends, and her family as they search for love in the nineteenth century. The author writes of Elizabeth's journey of not only finding herself, but finding true love with Mr. Darcy in the end. Austen herself never married, something that was very untraditional for her time. She went against normalcy and knew that marriage was for love, not money as
Music, what does it mean? Music is a vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, or expression of emotion. Within the musical space I am a vocalist. I use my mode of expression to strengthen relationship, provided hope, and uplift spirits. I rely on other musicians to build me up and use their messages to build others; I do my part and give the same back. I have used my opportunities to perform to inspire and strengthen our common threads. I can recall a time singing the National Anthem, and despite political differences we had music, which balanced us, pulled us together. Music has strengthened
In “Music, Language, and Composition” Adorno, Theodor W. argues that “To interpret language means to understand language; to interpret music means to make music. Musical interpretation is the act of execution…”(115). However, in The Souls of Black Folk, W.E.B Du Bois seems to point out that music carries intention, history, and experiences. Music could be a way to share one’s feelings and experiences that could not be expressed with the same emotional impact if they were just told through speaking. In other words, Du Bois seems to argue that music does have meaning and to understand music is to be able to express the intention behind or in the music. It is important to note that Adorno’s focus of music in “Music, Language, and Composition” is primarily classical music and Du Bois’ focus appears to be on music with lyrics. Therefore, music for Adorno had no explicit signifying words. However, rhythm and tone exist in both cases.
What makes music great? Is this not the question that everyone asks themselves? What makes that one song so special, what makes that band so amazing? It is questions like this that I ask myself every time I listen to music; which in my case, quite a bit. There is just something about the music that speaks to you. I believe that the lyrics are a main part of what makes music great. The lyrics are what draw people in, it is what connects the listener to the performer.
For as long as I can remember, music has driven my mere existence. Though many musicians bring these melodies to others through performance, I combined music with words to share my message. Last spring I had the opportunity to participate in an oratorical contest. I chose to speak about music’s ability to inspire individuals. As I recalled the immense joy that overcomes me when I play cello, I began my search for the reason behind it. While writing my speech, I recalled overcoming past adversity. Each time I struggled, music was my guide. When the competition arrived, I was elated to deliver my speech, but it wasn’t until I stood behind the podium that I understood why. My desire to share my love of music empowered me to help others utilize
Music is exceptionally powerful and meaningful to people worldwide as it serves as an expression of emotion. Authors of various literary works integrate music into their stories. In Baldwin 's short story, "Sonny 's Blues", jazz music is an important part of the story that explores the life of one of the main characters, Sonny. During the time this short story was written, Charlie Parker, an influential jazz musician that is briefly acknowledged in the story, had an immense following. Charlie Parker (along with Louis Armstrong) is considered by many to have forever changed jazz and to have left a legacy that permanently marks him one of the greatest saxophonists to have lived. Parker’s private life, which was full of hardships, mirrors
Music is defined differently for each individual. It is the universal language that speaks to us all, but in different ways. It is one of the few genres that can instantly transport a person back to the past. Music is also an art of sound which expresses ideas, thoughts, and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, and harmony. It is the design of giving structural form and rhythmic pattern to combinations of sounds produce instrumentally and vocally. To me, music brings a sense of calmness, happiness, and peacefulness. Music is the absolute bread of life because it feeds my soul.
My relationship with music is a personal and evolving one that has, for much of my life, shaped my identity and perspective. Amidst my accomplishments as a pianist and composer, music holds a deeper meaning to me due to its function as both a means of self-expression, and experiencing the abstract thoughts of others. I was born into music, and at an early age, found any opportunity to sit at a piano to be instantly gratifying. As I matured in my musicianship,
Music is not just something that sounds amazing, it’s something that feels amazing. Teaching people about music and how to make music feels fantastic. Directing a band is more work than it seems. As a band director you are a teacher, an orchestrator, a fundraiser, and most importantly, a role model. Many students in band look up to their directors because they spend so much time with them having fun occasionally. I personally, looked up to my band directors a great deal because they offered me guidance and friendship in exchange for my hard work and dedication to our organization.
