A leader that I most admire is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah Winfrey is from a rural area in Mississippi. She was born to a teenage single mother. Her early years she was raised by her grandmother which she taught her how to read. She was then sent back to live with her mother. While in her mother’s care she was molested as a teenager by many family friends and male relatives. She became pregnant at the age of 14, the baby died shortly after birth. Shortly after she was sent to live with her father in Tennessee. Her father was strict on education and as a result she excelled as a student. Despite her up bring, Oprah did not give up. She went to college at Tennessee State University, where she studied communications. She begun working as a radio and
The main difference between the Iranian and U.S constitution is that the Iranian government governs through Islamic law. However, the United States separates Church and state. The definition of democracy is a government by the people; or is exercised through elective representatives. To answer the question, yes the Iranian constitution is democratic. It is their ideas that are being represented through the laws. Religion is mostly addressed in the First Amendment of the Constitution which allows each person the right to practice their own religion freely. They have a policy on the separation of Church and state where they cannot endorse one particular religion.
A great leader who I admire is Colin Powell. He was born on April 5th, 1937 to immigrant parents, Luther and Maud Powell, from Jamaica. He was raised in the south Bronx and graduated from Morris High School in 1954. While studying geology at a community college he decided to join into the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. He graduated from the program in 1958 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He married his wife, Alma Vivian Johnson in 1962 and they have three children together.
A leader I admire is Tavon Austin.Austin was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he played football, basketball, and ran track. In football, he played running back, leading Dunbar High to three consecutive Class 1A state titles. As a senior, he had 2,660 yards rushing on 218 carries with 34 touchdowns, while also returning 12 punts for 446 yards and two scores. He was a Two-time Maryland Consensus Offensive Player of the Year and Consensus first team All-state. Austin enrolled in West Virginia University, where he played for the West Virginia Mountaineers football team from 2009 to 2012. He was converted into a wide receiver as a freshman in 2009. During his freshman season, he had 15 receptions
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." This inspirational quote came from the sixth president of the United States of America named, John Quincy Adams.
Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass they show the leadership of “be a piece of the rock” from The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader. They were slaves with the people they were born and lived what it was like being a slave that made them understand what it feels like and they used that to help lead people. Actions leaders need to take actions and Abraham Lincoln took action
Leadership Abilities can have many characteristics and meanings to a person. I took the time to look at characteristics and success of a leader to choose just one of the many leaders to discuss. Some of the characteristics that are involved in leadership is “Responsibility, Learners, share victory, Set an Example, aren’t afraid to make mistakes, push people upward, peacemakers, adapt their thinking, sense of humor, work hard, confident, promote unity, action-oriented, do the right thing, integrity, encourage, persevere, and courageous” (James River Church, 2017). One Leader that shows these characteristics is Mother Teresa.
In shaping my personal theory, I sought out my own definition of leadership. To do this, reflected on some of the leaders I admired such as Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Indira Gandhi, and Mahatma Gandhi, Why did I admire them? Were there any shared qualities they possessed? What I noticed with many of these leaders was their selflessness, their strong ethics and their ability to bring
What makes a great leader? Two great leaders from this century were Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. Despite their difference in gender and race and didn 't have political experiences. Martin Luther King Jr. was an African-American, Baptist minister, who was born on January 15, 1968. He lead the civil rights movement. Eleanor Roosevelt, who was born on October 11, 1884, was an influential a First Lady. She was a great social reformer and she was a beyond educated well and came from her wealthy family as well. Both had successful leadership qualities: empathy, conceptualization, and ability to build community.
There have also been people who have motivated me to be a leader, especially my high school orchestra director. At the end of my junior year, my director called me into his office and told me he would be moving me from the first violin section to the second violin section. He said he knew I was quiet in the back of the first violin section, but he could see I possessed the leadership skills necessary to sit in the front of the second violin section. This really motivated me to try and make him proud the next year at the front of the section. Many different aspects of my life have affected my leadership philosophy.
A leader that I have always admired is Harriet Tubman. I admire her for her bravery, strength, dedication, and most importantly, her passion. After surviving a tough childhood, Tubman knew she couldn’t spend the entirety of her life suffering as a slave. When she found out about the Underground Railroad, she took action. Most people would’ve just saved themselves and their loved ones, but what I admire about Tubman is that even after she and her family were safe, she continued to make trips back to the South, leading hundreds of slaves to freedom. Although she was risking her life every single day, she never gave up because she knew she was saving lives. Harriet Tubman once said, “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you
A leader is someone who timelessly practice guiding others in pursuit of a goal, or desired outcome. At the most fundamental level, a leader is someone who motivates, inspires and guides others toward pre-established goals. One of the most prominent leaders and inspirational person is Michelle Lavaughn Robinson Obama, former First Lady and married to Barack Obama, the former 44th President of the United States. During her time as an attorney and First Lady, Mrs. Obama has been an advocate for women’s rights, poverty awareness, a mentor, a supporter of military families, healthy eating and has been a fervent opponent of inequality (Slevin,2015). Michelle Obama is a noteworthy because she possesses leadership characteristics that inspire, motivate and made changes to the way American citizens live and see life; she became a beacon of hope.
There are many people in this world that embody the characteristics of leadership. Whether they are known by many people or just a friend of yours, anyone can be a leader and show leadership characteristics. Although not everyone can be a leader all the time/be positive towards life. Before Frederick Douglass decided to escape slavery and show leadership to other slaves, he was reading a book about freedom that you would think would motivate him before it brings him down but it did just the opposite. When Douglass read that book it made him think about how sad his position in life was. Then he turned his life around, even in the times when people don’t think they can get out of their positon and be a leader they do.
There are different types of leaders and also mentors; examples of famous leaders are Nelson Mandela, Adolf Hitler, Abraham Lincoln Barrack Obama, examples of mentors are Socrates who mentored Aristotle who subsequently mentored Alexander the Great.
Not all leaders are famous like Martin Luther King, most leaders are ordinary people; you can walk down the street and run into someone and not know that they are a very powerful leader. I personally know of a good leader that is an ordinary person; my father. Although some people believe that leaders are born and not made, I believe that anyone can become a leader if they have enough courage and are thick skinned. There are many words that people come up with when they are asked to describe what makes a good leader. The most popular characteristics used to describe a good leader would be a good listener, responsible, and decisive. When you think of what makes a good leader you should also ask what kind of education they have and what
Some of the most loved and respected leaders in the world are known for their imagination, risk-taking, perseverance and their well-known success. They have always been one step ahead everyone else and created what no one else was able to do. They influenced other people to be as imaginative and hardworking as they were. They never stopped believing in what they were doing. The two most leaders who fit all these descriptions would be Walt Disney and Bill gates, even thought they have a lot in common, their leadership style was completely different.
