How pride in country, community, school and family directs my daily life. Patriotism can be expressed differently in every individual in numerous ways. In my opinion, my pride especially derives from recent events. I am a proud American daughter of parents who went out and did their civil duty to America and voted in November. Due to the fact of being underage, I could not vote in the 2016 election. The next presidential election in the year 2020, I will be more than happy to provide a vote for my country. I live in a country that strongly believes in democracy. Having a say in representation is something a lot of American’s take for granted. Watching the news and seeing events of other countries being attacked because of the government is gruesome and frightening. Other continents and countries across the globe do not let their women have a say in not just government, but their own life. Women in America have not always had fair opportunities and some may say they still don’t, but I am glad to have my rights established for me under the amendments of the constitution. Females are now citizens, and have every right a man has. Equal pay has not yet been established for women in every …show more content…
Right now I am proud to be working with my schools superintendent to establish a 60 year anniversary of the Gates Chili Central School District. This event will bring together numerous amounts of people from all age groups. Currently we are pushing the activity “60 Good Deeds for 60 Good Years.” Hopefully, we can get students of Gates Chili to post on social media pictures of themselves accomplishing one of the deeds to spread the word. Everything is still under observation and no final decisions have been made about all the events planned for the sixty year anniversary get together. Events such as that allow a positive vibe in my community and to be a part of it is absolutely
Original I thought the word Patriot meant the football time, and little about the military. I didn't know it meant for the love and devotion of one's country. The way today's assignment changed my view on it. Was how far is someone willing to go to continuously show their love and appreciation to their country. That when showing there love to their country by sewing a flag into her shirt is one thing, but to willing full get beat so others can say the pledge. Is very eye opening to show how great it is to be an America. We have it good despite what many of us think. Honestly if America was crap then why would there be so many people risking their lives to get here. What I’m basically saying here is that the word Patriot , and the passage.
For hundreds of years, women have been looked at by society as non-human. They have been looked at as objects and not human beings. For years in the United States, women were not able to vote in presidential elections or any kind of elections. In fact, it wasn’t until the early 1900’s that women obtained the right to vote. This wasn’t just in the United States.
Not only have women won the right to vote, but women are now are being elected to public office at all levels of government. People used think that women could never work in an area as such because women were seen as ignorant. Women have been able to attainment professions and businesses of every kind. Women have been able to gain the levels of the clergy, the military, and becoming anchor women in the newsroom. Occupations that were considered “nontraditional” are now being worked by women. I believe women have accomplished so much, but yet a lot still remains to be done. Significant barriers to the full equality of women in America and across the world, still remain before our freedom as a Nation can be called complete. The Women’s Rights Movement has clearly been successful in permanently changing the circumstances and hopes of women. Women and young girls today are living the legacy of women’s rights that many generations of women before us have given their best to achieve. We should be proud of the women’s legacy that these heroic women had fought for, after being mistreated and beaten. I now have more respect after learning the history of the Women’s Movement to honor those who conquered our rights as
When I was younger I felt like I knew what it meant to be patriotic in America, but as times change I feel like I have no clue what it means to be patriotic in America today. I believe I had a grasp on what it means to be patriotic because, I had grown up in Gallup New Mexico-known to be the most patriotic town in The United States of America. Then Earlier in my life I also had to deal with my brother, who went into a recruiter's office and signed up to be shipped off to Afghanistan the very next day. When he would visit he would have these lectures on how we should show our patriotism. He would eventually force my mother to put up the American flag in the front porch to show respect for the country and those who served it. As I got older
In 1776, the colonists America decided that Britain was ruling unfairly, and that they could do a better job, but have you ever thought that you could do a better job than the modern day government? If The United States of America were to divide, I would be a “Patriot”, as in I would want them to divide. While I do currently like how this country is, I also do not like somethings about this country. The reasoning for which I would be a “Patriot” is because I would want to create a smaller country, to not take foreign affairs repercussions from the current government, to change how laws are put into place and to restructure the education system. The first reason of why I would be a “Patriot” is because I would want to create a smaller country.
Women have been given the right to vote and the right to more freedom. With more hard work and determination, women can have the equality they long for-hopefully sooner than later. The history women have been through for the freedom of us now is sad but joyous because it shows change is possible. Someday there could be a women president or women in major league baseball. Egyptian wives didn’t have it bad however other women did and still do. Women fought for what they wanted and got it. Hopefully there can be more change so women all over the world can have the freedom they deserve. There sadly are still some women treated like property but hopefully, time changes that and they will be free and equal as
In America, there is even a holiday to celebrate Patriotism. The Fourth of July celebrates America’s independence and it often includes the displaying of the American flag and respective merchandise, parades, political speeches, and fireworks. Some people display different levels of patriotism and that can be conflicting
A dedicated patriot is somebody who is culturally attached to one's homeland or devotion to one's country, and willing to sacrifice their lives for their homeland. They have observed this various times throughout our history. Dozens of wars litter our past, whether they are national or country wide, they have always fought for our country and they always will. But a patriot isn’t only somebody who fights in wars. There are numerous people who stay in their state or town and help those around their home. Patriotism doesn’t even need to be occurrences that are publicly known. There are patriotic companies that who only use American resources to produce American commodities for the population to consume. That way, people actually know that their money is going to be used to help their country out even more; in producing more supplies and making them cheaper in the long
Women now have the right to vote, hold office, and work for equal pay, but it wasn't always like this. Before the Declaration of Independence, women “couldn't sue for sexual harassment, could get fired for getting pregnant, and marital rape wasn't criminalized”. As you can see, we have held the principles of “All people have rights that cannot be taken away”. Women now have many of the same rights as men and are treated equally.
No true words were spoke than those by Ms. Susan B. Anthony, “Oh, if I could but live another century and see the fruition of all the work for women! There is so much yet to be done.” Those words are still true today. Even though Ms. Susan B. Anthony, Ms. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and other activists worked hard to get equal rights for women to allow them the right to have a say in how our government is run there are still places in the world where women and even some men aren’t allowed to vote. Some of those places may actually be surprising, others maybe not so much. Even still some of the trials these women went through to end women’s suffrage and the lack of political equality is worth taking a look at even ninety-one
I would have been a Patriot because they fought for against the acts that were stupid to them instead of just sitting back a doing nothing. They were the people to rebel. For example, the Tea act when the British East India Company was selling taxed tea for a lower price than the smuggled Dutch tea the patriots were drinking they got mad because when they bought the smuggled Dutch tea they were NOT paying for the duties. So they just did not buy it but it was hard because the government (Britain) shut down the Boston harbor to all shipments until the taxed tea was all paid for. A Patriot also stands for what they believe is right they don't worry about what might happen if they protest something.
American history usually starts with Columbus and the famous myths surrounding the “founding” of the New World. As children we learn about how Columbus fought against all odds to convince the king and queen of Spain to fund his voyage to prove the world was not flat. As we grow in our understanding of history we find that most of the world, at that time, already knew the world was round. So why do we believe in these myths? We believe in these types of myths because they make the central character or characters appear larger than life, much like a Hollywood blockbuster. In the 2000 film the Patriot, directed by Ronald Emmerich, and distributed by Columbia Pictures; we follow the story of American Revolution as seen through the eyes of a
Patriotism in the United States is simply part of the experience, and a great addition to the life of the american person. There’s Memorial Day, Independence Day (one can’t forget this holiday), Veteran’s Day, and so many others. This goes to say that patriotism definitely has its place; it creates a love for your country and the people that reside in it. However, there is a fine line between patriotism and nationalism. Patriotism becomes toxic when it becomes nationalism, at which time it can directly interfere with international relationships, progress, or world peace.
We now have documents showing that women’s rights is a very serious thing and it’s even in the constitution “Ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted American women the right to vote—a right known as woman suffrage. At the time the U.S. was founded, its female citizens did not share all of the same rights as men, including the right to vote” (“Nineteenth”). She influenced/impacted us today by showing women were equal and powerful, just like a man, she has impacted our view on women’s
Objection 1. In a civilized society, government ratifies laws and endorses them while its citizens acknowledge them and follow them; even if the laws may be despotic. The love of one’s country should be a sign that they are one-hundred percent loyal to the cause, even if there may be bouts of moral violations. Patriotism has no grey areas in its ideologies. Socrates says that
