What Patriotism Means to Me
Our world is home to the greatest nations with the proudest citizens. In a dreadful time where wars are brimming and protection is desperately needed, we gaze at the very men and women standing on the front lines, faces tight with gratification, expressions brilliantly lit by their bravery. It is often stated that humans do not recognize the significance of an object or being unless it is taken away and in some sense, this is true. We laugh and chuckle with loved ones, venture onto journeys and voyages together, live our impeccable lives unaware of the actions performed miles and miles from us that create a bubble of defense around us, pushing aside dangers and bringing forth domestic peace.
Patriotism is not
Amongst the thunderous roar of battle, there is a beacon of light that illuminates the darkest of battlegrounds. Bravery isn’t found in the absence of fear, it’s found by confronting it directly and acting regardless of its presence. The chaos of war spotlights those with grand acts of heroism, overshadowing the everyday bravery displayed by civilians. Amongst chaos, the continuation of everyday life is crucial in maintaining humanity, and hope in a society faced with constant threats.
In the Webster dictionary the definition for patriotism is: “one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests.” An example of it in a sentence is, “He was a great patriot who devoted his life to serving his country.” My definition of a person who is patriotic is, “a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, especially of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.
When I was younger I felt like I knew what it meant to be patriotic in America, but as times change I feel like I have no clue what it means to be patriotic in America today. I believe I had a grasp on what it means to be patriotic because, I had grown up in Gallup New Mexico-known to be the most patriotic town in The United States of America. Then Earlier in my life I also had to deal with my brother, who went into a recruiter's office and signed up to be shipped off to Afghanistan the very next day. When he would visit he would have these lectures on how we should show our patriotism. He would eventually force my mother to put up the American flag in the front porch to show respect for the country and those who served it. As I got older
But what does patriotism means to me? It means of course to have love for our homeland we should always respect our homeland because that’s where we come from, our country, if we living in a country we should respect it because they give you the privilege to live there, to support, to be inspired by, and to change our lives from the way we live them. What many has got confused is they believe they showed their love for this country by donating, or doing things for example, clothes, shoes, in line to donate blood, joining the army. But what people don’t know it’s that Patriots support the countries in every way possible. But that does not mean Americans has to agree with anything that the president says, we all have our rights to speak what
Hence, America is often reminded who they are. It resounds on national holidays that celebrate the nation's birth, honor its heroes and give thanks for its many blessings. In addition, something else that plays a big role is the reminder people are given whenever TV cameras bring back images of U.S. armed forces members risking their lives for American ideals around the world. However, as people look at these ‘heroes’ who have risked their life for their country it raises a certain perception and expectation for those soldiers. People at home are unconscious that this sort of pressure affects them greatly.
Patriotism is, per definition, devoted love, support, and defense of one's country. Since the founding of our nation, it has been a prominent part of the American Culture. Patriotism is rooted in values which include honor, loyalty, and bravery among others. There are many ways that an American can show their pride. One of the biggest way to prove one’s love for the nation is to joining the military to defend our liberties.
Patriotism is defined as: “the quality of being patriotic; vigorous support for one's country”. While stereotypically actions of patriotism show extreme pride, some show patriotism in the vision of what a country should be. They simply want the equality that the greatest country on the face of the Earth should be able to provide. Equal opportunities, not necessarily equal outcomes, but everybody should have the same opportunities to be successful.
Being a Patriot means to be proud of my country and to have love and support for it. Support should be present when defending the country’s power and interests. Love should be expressed through kindness and respect to others. As a Patriot, it is my responsibility to be proud of the accomplishments of my country and to show honor for the efforts that were made to form and establish my country.
1. This is a good law, because it allows the freedom of an individual's opinion. Many countries do not have the ability where each voice speaks through petitions and active participation. This allows the person to decide their own action, and not done by force. Some may argue that it is a bad law, because it allows disorder among the country's citizens and freethinking. America's basis is Liberty and Justice. If a person finds that he would rather sit down while the Pledge of Allegiance, let him do it.
In the dictionary patriotism is defined as “If you're full of patriotism, you're full of love for your country. Patriotism is associated with serving your country and waving the flag. There are, actually, a lot of ways to demonstrate your patriotism.” (Beedy 2). Patriotism is very big in the United States. There are holidays, and public events every year to have a chance to show just how patriotic one is. The showing of the American flag is one of the easiest ways to show your patriotic spirit. I believe strongly that the American flag is one of the most sacred things in American
Although we are a very strong country, we don’t always think of things like patriotism in our daily lives. Thankfully, in my community, we are all very patriotic. If you drive past houses, many people have a flag hanging up. Every morning, from kindergarten to senior year, we say the Pledge of Allegiance together as it is read on the announcements. We have a Veterans’ Day program every November and learn about our country’s history. This is all show of Americanism as a whole.
Everyday there seems to be new conflicts arising around the world. Today’s men and women are gaining the courage to enlist, to protect our country, from our veterans who were so brave in the past. They set a path of courage, bravery, and strength for who become
Patriotism in the United States is simply part of the experience, and a great addition to the life of the american person. There’s Memorial Day, Independence Day (one can’t forget this holiday), Veteran’s Day, and so many others. This goes to say that patriotism definitely has its place; it creates a love for your country and the people that reside in it. However, there is a fine line between patriotism and nationalism. Patriotism becomes toxic when it becomes nationalism, at which time it can directly interfere with international relationships, progress, or world peace.
As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me. They do not feel any enmity against me as an individual, nor I against them. They are ‘only doing their duty’, as the saying goes. Most of them, I have no doubt, are kind-hearted lawabiding men who would never dream of committing murder in private life. On the other hand, if one of them succeeds in blowing me to pieces with a well-placed bomb, he will never sleep any the worse for it. He is serving his country, which has the power to absolve him from evil. One cannot see the modern world as it is unless one recognizes the overwhelming strength of patriotism, national loyalty. In certain circumstances it can break down, at
My fellow friends and Loyalists, we have been betrayed by our own. Patriots are what they call themselves. They do not believe in our king anymore. The king has supported us and fought for us and in return they cause a rebellion. King George once said, “A traitor is everyone who does not agree with me,“ and he is beyond correct. Anyone who sides beside them are committing treason and ought to be penalized. We shall stay with Britain because we are stronger than the Patriots, trade is successful, and the economy is sustainable.
