Philippians 4:13 states, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”(KJV). This verse is what I base my whole life around; sports, academics, and everyday life can be traced back to this quote. Without this promise from God, I would not be as honorable, athletic, or smart as I am today.
On August 9, 2009 I was at my usual Sunday morning church service when I started to feel some unusual anxiety. My heart started pounding during the service, and after a few minutes it would stop. I had never felt this way, and before I knew it the service was almost over. The pastor gave the altar call, and I headed to the altar. The funny thing was that I had never been to the altar by myself; when I did go I went with my parents. This time,

Sports are for enjoyment and fun, but I add something else to that list. I use sports to show all God has done for me to the world. I am blessed to have been brought up in a Christian family that taught me discernment at an early age. At the center of my family’s beliefs is Philippians 4:13, and we use it in our lives every day. God has blessed me with my athletic abilities, so I can be a light to the world in his name. According to Matthew 5:14-16, Christians are commanded to do this: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”(King James Version). Some may say that I am not the best athletically, and I agree with them. I know I am not the best, but I am witnessing to others through how I apply myself and respect my coaches and teammates. Like Matthew 5:14-16 says, “...A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid…”, and when I am a light for God, I can do all things through him.
Not only do I shine athletically, but I also shine academically. As promised in Philippians 4:13, God has given me the very special gift of wisdom. I have earned many academic awards in middle school and at the academy. Although my academic accolades
In Philippians 3:13, it says, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” Just as C.S. Lewis says ‘There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.’
“I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. As Christians, we need to always remember we cannot do it alone by ourselves, without Christ, we are nothing. As a Christian athletes, we need
I have played in almost every sport that is known to the common Texan, and I have enjoyed every single moment of it. I fit the stereotype athlete almost to the “T”. I gained knowledge and a strong state of mind which came from my mom, who was a headstrong teacher, and my dad, who was a powerful stone in our family circle. Before I realized the potential I had with my life, I lived with no consideration to anyone but myself. You could say I was selfish, inconsiderate, and disrespectful. With my life heading in the wrong direction, I was destined to come into contact with destruction.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"-Philippians 4:13. This is a very common verse among many athletes whether it be written on tape, eye black, or even tattooed among the body, it shows us how religion plays a very big role in the world of sports.
The scriptures I feel are a part of the foundation of my Christian overview are Philippians 4:13 and Proverbs 3:5. Philippians 4:13 states “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. Whenever things in my life seemed to go wrong and the many times I thought I didn’t have the strength to go on, this scripture kept me encouraged. I know being a working adult, balancing family life and going back to school will be very challenging. I will use Philippians 4:13 to remind myself I can do this.
In this verse in the Bible says,"do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves, Philippians 2:3. What this verse, what this verse is suppose to symbolize is that don't let our selfishness and pride get in front of others, if we put others in front of us we won't be selfish or proud. yes, being being proud might not be a bad thing but being too proud of your accomplishments is bad because you start getting overly excited about things that you couldn't do before then you start to thing about yourself more. A personal experience of mine dealing with this question was when I was in the eight grade, I had a basketball game on November 21, 2015 we were down ten points it was the fourth
Philippians 4:1-2 chosen to discuss as the basis for a sermon because, as leaders, a person is not always going to agree with each other on many issues. However, a leader can learn to disagree with understanding and with love, because members of the congregation, the community, and the pastor are watching the spiritual fruits of the leaders.
For me, it all starts by carefully view my own life and begin to examine things that interest me, and I am passionate about. Then I can do my best. One of the strengths I noticed that I have is to encourage others. In Romans:12, Paul talks about the seven responses to see the world and its pain. In my case, I identified with those who those in who encourage others. I don’t think of myself as the master of the language as the book said, but I believe God gave the ability to speak from the heart and to be sensitive to the need of others. “All of us are called to encourage one another. But the pattern of some reflects a deep-felt conviction that encouragement is fundamental to the world experiencing peace, justice, and transformation.”
Sports have been what my life revolves around for as long as I can remember. I spent all my younger years watching my siblings play different sports in different cities. Our family vacations were wherever my brother and sisters had tournaments. It’s the bond that unites us and gives us a sense of identity. I don’t know who we would be if we weren’t supporting each other at games or having family gatherings to watch some big game.
The epistle of Philippians is written by Paul with credit given to Timothy. This position is supported by the verse 1 of chapter 1 stating this fact. Pauline authorship had been accepted by the early church fathers Polycarp and Ireaneus, which serves as strong support. However in the 18th century, F. C Baur argued that Philippians may not have been Pauline due the presence of Gnostic doctrines and ideals. He further questions the origin of the epistle due to the statement made in Philippians 1:12, as it could not be proved by using the other prison epistles said to be written in Rome. Nonetheless, the evidence is circumstantial at best and inconsequential at worst. As such, it is generally accepted and no longer disputed that the epistle is instead Pauline. However, the origin of the letter is matter of debate. There are three possibilities as to the origin or location of the writing of Philippians. What is known is that the epistle was written by Paul during one of his three imprisonments. What can be argued is which imprisonment. Paul was imprisoned in Ceasarea for two years (58—60 AD) as account in Acts 28:14-31 by Luke. The mention of the praetorian guard in verse 1:13 could be one clue, as one did exist in Caesarea. However, Paul mentions that he has no appeal in verses 1:19—26. Paul did appeal his jailing in Caesarea. Moveover, there is no strong evidence that favors
When I got home I got more into the word and more involved with my church because I felt myself falling apart after that camp experience. During the three days of camp that we were with the girls, I did a lot of thinking about myself and how I am with other people, and then on the last night I experienced my first panic attack. I had spent so much time thinking about my life and how poorly I thought I acted towards others when they could be going through something so much worse than I was. Over the next several months I continued to have anxiety attacks multiple times a week and sometimes a day. I kept trying to stay involved with my church and keep working in my Bible by doing my quiet times, but I used every excuse in the book to get out of it and I felt ashamed.I kept going to church, but it was like I was not even there because I would not focus on anything nor did I have any desire to pay attention. I knew people out there had it much worse than I did and they did not speak of it or show any sign of
I chose to write my paper on Philippians 3:12-21. Before writing this paper I was not entirely familiar with the reasons for Paul’s letters to the church of Philippi. It was an interesting study once I understood the background and reasoning for Paul’s writings. Paul writes a thank you letter to the Christians at Philippi for their contributions and support in his hour of need, and he uses the occasion to send along some instructions on Christian unity. Paul is also giving them an update on his circumstances. Most of Paul’s letter to the church of Philippi dealt with areas such as joy, rejoice, praise, thankfulness, and attitude.
