Speech "I've learned all about life with a ball at my feet."-Ronaldinho. Soccer has connections or life lessons that we can relate to our daily lives. Whether it be in afoul or a goal, it can relate to our life. Reason why I'm writing this is because no matter what life is like a game, and it is best to play by the rules rather than cheat. when people play by the rules they are respecting and usually have good karma, however, break the rules and they will have bad karma. We can also see that the people who play the sport are generally martyrs. A martyr is someone who sacrifices for the sake of others. In soccer, most of the players are considered to be martyrs. Reason behind this is that in order for a team to be successful, the teams have to be willing to sacrifice for their own teammates. Just like life, when doing it alone its extremely …show more content…
Like in real life, I will do anything to help my friends/teammates. Just like Michael DeSanta we will both do anything for our family/friends.

However, Michael would probably take it to an extreme by possibly killing someone or seriously injuring them. This isn't how a normal martyr should react to a situation. My artifact will be a small soccer field that will represent my "teammates" and goals.
My artifact shows a soccer field and how it plays a role in my life. The opposite goal houses my dreams and ambitions in life while the goal that I have to protect is myself . The players are myself, friends, family, teachers, or anyone that wants to see me succeed in life. My opponents are people who dislike and do not want me to achieve my goal, life, stress, money, and other ambitions. I am playing as a goalie because I need to block any "shot" that life throws at me just in case the opponent gets past everyone. I am also a forward because I need to score on the goal in order to achieve my
The famous Scottish soccer player Bill Shankly once said, "Soccer is a matter of life and death, except more important."
What makes a martyr? Martyr, stemming from the Greek word for witness has long been a part of human history, tracing its origins through much of the history of the three principle Abrahamic religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Throughout much of history, a running definition of the concept of martyrdom and martyrology has been developed, often taking the shape of that of the dominant beliefs of an era and morphing to suit historical context. Martyrdom has been primarily a religious or philosophically driven concept as it has strong ties to the concept of suicide discussed so frequently in those types of circles. However, the rate of secularization in leading societal values has pushed the concept of martyrdom to be considered more broadly
“What I Learned as a Kid in Jail” is a speech given at a TEDTalk convention to a group of young men and women delivered by Ismael Nazario, a prison reform advocate where he does work for The Fortune Society, a non profit organization. Nazario was arrested when he was just under eighteen for robbery and sent directly to Rikers Island where he spent 300 days in solitary confinement, before ever being convicted of the crime. Nazario’s goal in delivering his speech to a group of younger men and women is to make them aware of the way correctional officers treat younger inmates and how inmates should be spending their time doing productive activities and understanding they do not have to go back to the life they were living. Nazario accomplished this goal by sharing personal stories from his past experiences.
I am extremely grateful for this because soccer has impacted my life immensely. I can honestly say that soccer has pushed my life forward in a positive direction. It taught me how to be competitive, hard-working, and how to deal with people I necessarily didn't agree with or care for. That competitiveness that I first learned at the ripe age of four is something that has carried on into other aspects of my life including my education. I always want to have the highest grade in the class and if that’s not possible than the highest grade that I can get. This previously mentioned competitiveness on the field and in the classroom translates into hard work. Dealing with people I don't get along with isn't something that I am the best at, but I have been working on it. I am not always going to like my boss or coach, but I am not going to be able to change that. I can think of a few examples where I have gotten into an argument with someone who I definitely shouldn’t have been disrespecting and as I look back I feel foolish and that helps me deal with similar situations that I currently
A martyr is a person that defends a principle, even though it means giving up everything that is important to that person (Webster 236). Some martyr's are put in jail for standing up for Jesus Christ or God. Most martyrs are killed because of their beliefs. Martyrs are the strange ones who
When John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Lincoln at Ford’s Theater in Washington on April 14, 1865, people almost immediately deemed Lincoln a martyr. Although, no one even began to question whether Booth was one. A martyr is said to be a person who is killed for their beliefs, in the case of Booth, his hatred towards the president. Yet, with such a vague definition, martyr becomes very subjective. Aren’t those who are promised Paradise and eternal worship if they strap bombs to their chests considered martyrs too? Of course not! Not in the eyes of Americans at least. More often than not, martyrs are people who are willing to die for the cause in hopes that it will bring change. However,
This artifact that I selected is an acting project I did in my english class for this quarter. During this project a group of my peers and I had to act out a short book called The Twelve Angry Men which is about twelve men on jury that is stuck in a stale mate over a case on a murder. This artifact relates to the topic of letters because we based this play on a small yet pivotal section in the book. It relates to the grade theme of explore because this was my first time acting and I tried out or explored something new; however, I did not know or have a idea on how I would like it. While selecting an artifact I found my self drawn to this topic becuase I shows that play sports and other activities can be just as exciting as acting. I am
A martyr is someone who has laid their life down to hold on to their faith. Examples of martyrs are the twelve disciples, but I chose to research the mouthiest of the disciples, Peter. Peter was the odd disciple out in every story. Who tried to follow Jesus’ lead by walking on the water? Who refused the feet washing, then asked for a whole body washing? Who denied Jesus 3 times? The answer to all of these is Peter. I chose Peter because he has obviously been at fault before, but he knows that it is not about what he has done, but what God has done. I know that I am not perfect, but I want my life to be focused on God’s strength and not my weakness.
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." As Henry Adams stated, and is the summary of the impervious bond between the characters Mitch and Morrie, in Tuesdays with Morrie. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease is a form of motor neuron diseases. It is a rare disorder in which the nerves that control muscular activity degenerate within the brain and spinal cord. What results is weakness and wasting away of the muscles. The cause is unknown. About one to two cases of ALS are diagnosed annually per 100,000 people in the US. (Lou) Sufferers will notice weakness in the hands and arms accompanied by wasting of the muscles (Motor). The weakness
My artifact does not truly reveal my perspective of who I am as a student or a learner. My artifact reveals that of who I have become as a woman, wife and mother. Thou as I have stated in my artifact paper, “I am always willing to learn and it never ends, just like the shape of the ring, never ending.” I believe every day we are students and learners, there is that old saying “you learn something new every day” and I believe
A martyr is someone who is killed because of their religious or other beliefs. A famous martyr that many people look at in the church today is Saint Stephen. Stephen was often called the protomartyr, or the first martyr of Christianity. Stephen's original name in Greek is given as Stephanos meaning "crown". This is given to him because he is invested with a crown on martyrdom. If you want to learn more about Stephen you can find him in the New Testament in the Acts of Apostles. He is mentioned in Acts as one of the Greek speaking Hellenistic Jews selected to participate in a fairer distribution of welfare to the Greek speaking widows.
The meaning of martyr is: One who chooses to suffer death rather than renounce religious principles.
He's that kid who you always see in the gym. Being my best everyday is something my hero pushes me to do. I am very thankful for his support and his encouraging points that make me the athlete i am and the athlete i hope to become. Going to the gym every day to not just work on his own skill, but also others make him very influential in my life. My hero wants me to be the best i can be by giving me pep talks before my games. This helps me to know what to strive to do that game! He makes me strive to be my best in every way. Not just in the gym but also in school. My hero inspires me to do well in school just like he does. He is in some of the highest courses at the High School and that makes me want to follow directly in this
What is a saint? A saint is a person of great holiness, who has performed miracles for God’s cause. What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like Maximilian Kolbe.
At the age of six I had not given much thought about life and death, but this day changed that. As a baby, I cannot imagine all the things I did that put myself in danger. I was completely unaware of the consequences of my actions. As a child, I was playful, innocent, and cheerful. Throughout my years of growing up I have learned many lessons through life. Only a few events happened before this one that I can remember. On my 6th birthday, life could have been lost, and from that I learned to always be careful and that life can change in an instant.
