The following essay is a summary of the impacts that digital technologies have made on the graphic design process. This essay includes the history of technological changes and the tools that technology has created. The essay will also consist of the contributions that have been made by computers in the process of graphic design. The last part will consist of the negative impacts of technology on graphic design as well as the changes that have been achieved in graphic design as a result of technology advancements. This paper will expose the relationship between developments in technology and their impact on graphic design. In today’s world technology is playing a major part of people’s lives, either as a socialization tool or as a …show more content…
“Woodcut” was one of the earliest techniques of printing which was used to print patterns onto cloths. This technique was widely used in Far East but later in the 5th century it was introduced into China where it was used to print texts and images onto paper. The next major development of technology occurred in the 19th century when chromolithography was put together. Chromolithography was the most successful method of color-printing developed (Lupton). Later in the same century offset printing was discovered. This technique enables the image carrier to link the image only to the ink and ensure that other parts are left ink-free. In the 1960s, an American company called Xerox came up with the photocopier hence doing away with the traditional methods of reproducing documents such as the use of carbon papers (Heller). The next big step in technology development came in 1969 with the discovery of laser jet and by 1981 the printer was released for mass marketing. Modern technology created the Corel PageMaker, which is a computer application that started a dramatic revolution in the graphic design process, which did away with aspects of graphic traditions such as desktop publishing. This drastic change in tools used in graphic design changed the field into a technology-heavy field. The discovery of the computers made the process of graphic design even easier. Some of
More than 50 percent of people in the U.S.A have some type of technology device either with them or at their house; maybe even both. Daily life has changed so much over the years due to the technological advancements. Technology has changed many things about communication skills, entertainment, and even activities.
Today, our world is immersed in new technology. Nearly every house has at least one computer, television, and tablet. Cell phone have, also, became a giant part of people’s lives. This access to new technology has a great impact on the socialization process. How does this emergence and access of new technology impact the socialization process? For one thing no one can escape the impact of new technology.
When graphic design began, it was much simpler than it is today. Most people consider graphic design to be done only on computers and fancy operating systems, when in fact graphic design in much more complex than that. Graphic design has its roots in early caveman drawings using stone, organic paints and charcoal. Since these early humans had no to little verbal communication, logic dictates that they would have to communicate instead with a plethora of symbols and graphic representations of ideas. As time progressed, the methods of visual communication, as well as verbal communication, evolved. Materials in graphic design became more refined such as digital or traditional printing. Some of the milestones in graphic design were the invention of printing presses, text-based design such as Typography, molds, and computers. As new technology made the expression and sharing of art possible, those who chose to create art formed new styles and ideas that also evolved.
The fact that technology is evolving every second means that the way we design, create and even advertise it is changed. Designer can go a long way, in many different directions. Even though the innovations introduced have a major positive impact, they do have a negative one as well.
There have been many changes from the past and into the 20th century dealing with computers in 1952 the first computer compiler was built to 1991 the world wide web becomes available to the public. “The 20th century was nearly into its fourth decade before the first electronic computer came along, and those early machines were behemoths capable of only the most basic tasks” (National Academy of Engineering 2013). There are many digital enhancements that have occurred in the 20th century such as Photo Flair, Photoshop, Photo Algorithm Software, and Triangle Photography also have a software program called Digital Photo Enhancement Services.
I will then compare the limitations of different software packages used in graphics work. (M1)

Technology has a huge impact on our lives. Now more than ever, we have unlimited knowledge and data at our fingertips and numerous and longer connections with people globally. With social technology, our society has adapted to a new age and is basing itself around an endlessly advancing and fast-paced scientific world. Technology has a huge impact on our social interactions and day-to-day routine, creating a culture of physical discommunication and digital conversation.

The history of graphic art and the cycle of politicization, depoliticization and then repoliticization span the late 19th century through and into the 21st century. Evolving from humble beginnings into the commercial behemoth it’s become to today this essay will explore graphic design’s evolution and the politics that affected this growing art movement during this influential timeline.
In today’s society, technology and art go hand in hand. Art has been around for a long time but technology such as computers are still very new. These two mediums have comingled and now evolve and effect the other. Art has changed to reflect the vast improvements technology has contributed to communication and the ability to create using digital space. Technology has also changed with artist pushing the boundaries of what is technical possible in the digital realm. Much of today’s art is created and presented in digital formats. The question of whether digital art is truly art has risen among many critics in the art community.
The primary objective of this paper is to identify two of the various theories, practices, and technologies that are closely associated with the Digital Design specialization. This paper will describe each chosen theory, practice, and technology as well show the relation to how it will specifically impact digital design. It will go into depth about the theories Graphic Design and Gestalt Theory, the practices Works-Every-Time Layout and Thumbnail Sketches, and the technologies Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.
During the past years, graphic design has been changing all over the world, especially regarding the use of certain techniques of designing. Traditional principles and techniques of design allow designers to be more creative, but more and more designers are using computers. So, is new technology good or bad? It may seem strange to consider the different aspects of graphic design because most people only know the technological side. Though most people think graphic design is more about the digital media, it is actually a complicated process that requires creativity that computers cannot supply.
“Vision is the art of seeing the invisible” ( Jonathon Swift). We have been indulging in the arts and have used art as a way to express and interact with the people surrounding us. To the carved images on rocks, and to the cartoons shown on the TV, the evolution of Graphic Design has shown us the importance of typography, photographers, illustrators etc. have on our society. When paper, ink, and pencils didn’t exist, our ancestors would carve their warnings, messages, and emotions on rocks and walls. Our ancestors don’t realize that such small acts such as these was the beginning of a huge movement, that wouldn’t be recognized until thousands years later. During the 16th century, China was able to establish a technique called woodblock printing or, the application of ink on raised curved surface, that allowed multiple text and images to be made quickly. China’s wide extension of printing slowly reached the middle east and caused Europe to start producing woodblock broadsides and printed books. The first printing press was constructed by Johannes Gutenberg, which was the first metal movable type to create a large amount of printed books. In the Old days books were very rare, expensive and were very valuable. The creation of the Printing press allowed books to be done faster, cheaper and it allowed books to be more accessible to the public. Graphic Design or “the art or skill of combining text and pictures in
There’s no doubt that technology is moving art and its creative process over time. The invention of portable paint tubes and art supplies made outdoor painting accessible and Impressionism prevalent, from where we have had the honor to know about Claude Monet through his legendary lily pond from his suburban residence at Giverny, France and on the walls of canvas at Musee L’Orangerie in the city of Paris. More recently in the 20th century, if it is not for the revolutionary invention of silkscreen printing, Andy Warhol would not have become a household name in the art world. The truth is, to artists, technology has been a driving force to constantly provide and inspire new ways of art creation for a long time, arguably since the beginning of art history. However, it is not until the recent decades in the 20th and 21st century that we start to see the
