On September 11th, 2001 the attacks has affected the world in a tremendous way, including the thousands of people that died and were injured. The graphic videos of people jumping out of the buildings, the grey dust and blood covered people seen running away in terror, the attack on the pentagon and Pennsylvania and the final seconds of the three world trade Centre buildings will forever remain etched in the minds of those that saw the events live and have seen video footage of it.

September 11, 2001, a day the people in United States will all remember, a terrorist group called al-Qaeda hijacked four U.S. airplanes and directed them to crush into twin towers and World Trade Center the Pentagon. The fourth plane, thought to be heading to the capitol in Washington, however, crushed in rural Pennsylvania. This terrorist attack took the lives of nearly 3,000 people, resulting in being one of the worst attack on the United States in history. The criprits, Al-Qaeda, is a group that practice in muslim religion and desire to create a muslim state independent from other countries. The September 11 attack by al-Qaeda, later resulted in changes in the United States’s views on safety, vigilance, and privacy.

This report aims to provide details of a defining moment in history between 1901 and now. The defining moment in this report is the 9/11 attacks. The purpose of this report is to understand, the specifics of the 9/11, what happened on 9/11 and how it happened, the Primary factors that contributed to the outcome of 9/11 and lastly reasons why the 9/11 attack is considered a defining moment in intelligence history.

On September 11, 2001; 19 terrorists hopped onto 4 planes and attempted suicide attacks. Two of the planes hit the world trade center in New York City, another hit the Pentagon outside Washington D.C., and the last plane hit a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks killed more than 3,000 people which included 400 policemen and firefighters. This event was the deadliest day that has ever occurred in US history. The problems it has caused after it has happened were more wars by trying to find the people responsible for these attacks. We eventually found the main leader who was Osama Bin Ladin; which we executed on May 02, 2011. Other problems have occurred for the better but in a sense it is difficult situations including immigration and tourism.

On a quiet Tuesday morning at 8:45 September 11, 2001, a 767 was fully loaded and ready for departure. When an Islamic extremist group called Al-Qaeda, hijacked the plane and crashed into on of the World Trade Center Towers. On the 80th story of a 110 story building. It instantly killed all in the plane and many in the tower. 18 short minutes later another 757 United Airline disappeared into the second building. This plane crashed into the south side of the second building on the 60th floor killing all in the plane as well.

Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
