What Is A Meta-Cognitive?

By dictionary definition, meta-cognition involves a higher-order thinking that enables understanding, analysis, and control of one’s cognitive processes, especially when engaged in learning. In other words, how has your thinking evolved over the years both academically and professionally? Rather than think about how my thinking has changed, I wanted to expand on how my way of thinking relates to myself in terms of my character. How does my past thinking reflect on my present thinking? How will my future thinking reflect on my present thinking? Instead I realized I learn better just, by looking back through my notes and relaying the information out loud. Sometimes looking back through my notes did not work for me, especially in math class. Math has always been a hard subject for me to grasp. I figured the only way to successfully study for math was to redo all the practice problems from the notes in order to fully to grasp the concept. In English, History, Science, and Spanish I found review games like Kahoot, Jeopardy and Battleground to be very helpful for studying. I find extra credit, planning out my time, asking for help as motivation. As I mentioned before math has never been my subject and whenever an extra credit opportunity popped up in math I would jump on the opportunity, whether it be five or ten points on a low test/quiz grade I would try my hardest to earn that extra credit. I never felt comfortable with my middle school math teacher because he came off as the strict dictator type and when he picked on you in class you better have the right answer. Ms. Eckberg was always so lenient when it came to her tests and quizzes because she herself admitted the concepts we hard for her to teach and relearn. During my junior year I felt I’d improved dramatically with the help of Ms. Eckberg because I gotten over my fear of asking for help and showed my growth. If I had known I could take high school classes online during my 8th grade year of middle school, I would have more time for college classes and time for myself. When sophomore seminar was eliminated from the 2014-2015 school curriculum I had to find new ways to balance my studies. I found setting reminders for myself on my iPad and writing down important dates in my planner easier for me to
