Animal testing is cruel, inhumane, and causes many deaths. To start, according to statisticsbrain.com “There are 76,430,000 cats in the U.S. and 19,500,000 are killed in research each year.” This means that 25% of cats are being killed each year due to animal testing. In addition, P.E.T.A. says “78,294 animals are subjected to severe pain much higher than the average animal pain tolerance.” This means that the people testing the animals aren’t taking into consideration the pain they are giving these animals. As can be seen, most of the cats are being killed because of animal testing and animals are being subjected to pain much more than they can handle.
To begin with, why is it done? Animal testing is done to protect humans from bad products that may hurt them, also to find ways to cure diseases that haven’t been cure yet. 95 percent of mice and rats are used for research. Mice represented the largest increase in research with their numbers going from 1.2 million to nearly 1.9 million in that period. Other animals also saw increases (Qtd animal experiment up to 73 percent, study says). Other animals that are used in research are rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, fish, and insects, and also less than one percent cats, and dog’s area also used for research. Another reason is to treat injuries and learn more about the animal bodies to find the similarity to the human body (qtd. animal research). Animal testing is inhumane when testing to protect humans. Some people say testing on animals are life changing experiments and with the help of animal experiment can discover blood transfusion, kidney dialysis, and gene therapy for example cystic fibrosis and types of cancer( Coster 7). Others think experimenting on animal is cruel and they suffer a lot. It is true
First, animal testing is very harmful to animals. 100 million animals are harmed or killed because of testing. For example, the poor animals are given painful tests until they are not needed any more or eventually die. Just because they don't test things on humans, doesn’t mean that they should be doing it to animals. Animals testing is harmful to innocent animals.
There are over 26 million different types of animal being tested on for research each year in the United States. Animals are used for testing every year for human research. Different animals go through serious pain, in order for humans to facilitate growth in different fields of study. Many animals are used in order to study diseases and potential cures for the diseases. New research chemicals are tested on animals with similar structures to humans, to see if the medicine can help with certain diseases. Tons of scientific advancement has taken place because of animal testing. Without animal testing, many diseases would still exist, without a safe way to test for potential cures. The issue at hand is the type of treatment that animals have to endure because of the different testing methods. They are treated very poorly, go through intense suffering, and normally have very poor living conditions. A pro to animal testing is that many cures and different medicines have been developed through animal testing. Without animal testing, many diseases would still exist without cures. Secondly, animals have a much shorter life span than humans do, so scientists can study the results through the whole life span of the animal. With humans, it is hard to do a full test because we have such high lifespans, while animals tend to live a lot less longer. Thirdly, many animals have been saved because of animal testing. Many diseases animals deal with now have vaccines and cures, as a result of animal testing. Without it, many animals would have rabies or other types of virus that can be detrimental to the animal’s health. On the contrary, a con to animal testing would be the pain many animals go through as a result of the testing. The tests are experimental, so we don’t know exactly what the chemical drug will do to the animal. Many cases have turned bad and many animals have died as a result, or gone through extensive pain. Next, there are many alternative methods of experimental testing that doesn’t require animals. As a result, why are we still using animals for testing when there are other ways to do it. Finally, animals are different from humans, so they make poor testing subjects. We can’t know for sure how the research
There are some good things about animal testing but also bad things. The bad things of animal testing is that it can either kill animals or cause them long lasting harm. If the animal gets hurt during animal testing then it could heal but sometimes that’s not the case and some animals will suffer from permanent damage. That permanent damage might even be painful. The tests done on the animal may be painful as well. Some of the drugs and products that pass animal testing aren’t necessarily safe. Animals are also very different from people. The animal testing can also mislead researchers to ignoring potential cures and treatments for diseases and illnesses.
Animal testing is the when animals are used in testing facilities all over the world for cures, scientific research, experiments and medicine. Each year millions of animals such as household pets (dogs, cats, rabbits) and other animals such as rats, mice are used in various scientific experiments. During testing these animals experience physical and/or mental torture. Although scientists believe that these experiments are obligatory if they are to succeed in breakthroughs, I believe that these experiments are cruel, painful and immensely dangerous. A massive flaw is that animals are exposed to an infliction of unnecessary pain.
In conclusion, animal testing, is cruel to animals and very dangerous because of its unreliability. It also i just morally wrong these poor animals live in stress, fear, and pain and is forced upon them without their consent. It is largely inconclusive because animal anatomy is different from human anatomy; results of testing cannot be said to mimic the results in
Animals can be burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused as a result of testing. And the list could go on forever. The way animals are being mistreated and tested on should be against the law. There is a different ways to do research other than killing and abusing animals. There are many alternate test that scientist can use to do there research without harming animals. Alternative test are defined as test that use the three “R’s”, a test that replaces a procedure that uses animals with one that doesn’t, a test that reduces the number of animals used in a procedure, and test that refine a procedure to cause less pain to the animal.(11 Facts about…)
The amount of pain that not even most, but all animals have to go through every day is sickening. In an article written by PETA they mention how “It’s unethical to sentence 100 million thinking, feeling animals to life in a laboratory cage and intentionally cause them pain, loneliness, and fear.”(PETA “Top five reasons to stop animal testing”) That is a lot of animals to be stripped from their homes and sanctioned to this punishment. A big part of animal testing too is that even though they have gotten a lot better with the conditions of animal testing, they still haven't necessarily increased in quality. Animals are still dying and still are
Imagine being locked up in a cage having chemicals rubbed, injected and force fed into you. Over 1,000,000,000 animals per year suffer rashes, cuts, burns, infections, loneliness and even death. This is due to animal cruelty or testing. It should be illegal to test on animals. You should be able to adopt an animal after the lab is thru with it.

Animal testing is a hotly debated topic among many people. It is the use of animals for research purposes, or to test various new medicines or products. The goal is to see how the animals will react before the products are used for human consumption. The problems arise with the issue of ethics and whether or not the results will actually translate to humans. Those in favor of animal testing will say that animal testing is beneficial, and that the life of a human should be prioritized before other animals. Also, testing on animals will prevent any damage to humans that would arise from human testing. Those against animal testing believe that humans and all other animals should be treated as equals. They also believe that it is inhumane to test
The harm caused to animals from testing is beyond belief. Animals inhale fumes, are force-fed pesticides, are smeared with corrosive chemicals to their skin and eyes and with no voice to stop it. Those are just a few examples of what animals experience daily. In 1966 the Animal Welfare Act was put in place which was implemented to protect the animals, however loopholes have been discovered. According to People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an organization which campaigns for animals rights; mice, rats, birds and cold-blooded animals are not covered in that act. Those types of animals make up 99% of that animals that are used as guinea pigs in experiments(Animal Testing 101). With this
Some people argue that animal testing is necessary for scientific advancements to find cures and treatments. This is true, vaccines for polio and hepatitis B were used on animals and were successful. Thalidomide was also used on pregnant animals and it was found to cause birth defects. This is an understandable concern, however animals had to suffer for these advancements and it’s inhumane. According to the U.S Department of Agriculture, in 2010 97,123 animals
"Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in United States labs every year."(Do Something np) Medical testing on animals has always been a heated argument due to its equal pros and cons. Testing on animals is needed to assure the safety of cosmetics, food, medicine and other products. Testing on animals may have its benefits for humans, but it's cruel for us to torture something that feels pain like us. Many animals possess internal systems and organs that are identical to the structures and functions of human internal organs. Rats and mice exhibit many of the same responses to chemicals as humans. According to the medium fertility estimate by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Population Division, the world population was 7.349 billion as of July 1, 2015. The chart above illustrates how world population has changed throughout history. At the dawn of agriculture, about 8000 B.C., the population of the world was approximately 5 million. Over the 8,000-year period up to 1 A.D. it grew to 200 million, with a growth rate of under 0.05% per year.
