Our beautiful beach, “Clearwater” got its name from the Native American term “Pocotopaug”. Clearwater was also named for the fresh springs found everywhere. Clear Water became known as Clearwater in 1895, Clearwater became more popular as a resort and vacation destination as the population grew. Clearwater’s beaches and resorts imbedded with restaurants and fun water events is now a popular destination for families and many teenagers after prom and school events. The first white settler was a French doctor named Conte Odet Philippe, who was a chief surgeon in General Napoleon Bonaparte's navy. In 1950 Clearwater counted approximately 15,000 residents now the population has grew to 108,000 people (according to the 2010 U.S. Census); that number
